- In celebration of the 2009 bicentenary of the birth of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) WAG Screen and Crow's Eye Productions made a short, filmed dramatisation of his poem The Lady of Shalott to be shown at The Collection, Lincoln. Inspiration for the visual imagery came from the many Pre-Raphaelite paintings that the poem inspired, but most especially the paintings of the artist John William Waterhouse.

It's a real pleasure to listen to the narrator... but my God... looking at the video while listening to him is just marvellous! Thank you indeed!
Thanks 🙏
Amazing! Criminally few views: narration is great, costumes are amazing, the poem is beautiful, the cinematography is captivating and overall production quality is incredible! Thank you for this!
Listen Loreena McKennit's version!
The actual poem by Tennyson is quite lengthy. But one of my favorites.
@@torvilasulvstle362 I've set the poem to music. I kind of treated it as a piece of musical theatre - I'd love it if you'd check it out! ua-cam.com/video/V3zZkA2655c/v-deo.html
Absolutely beautiful! I always think of Anne of Green Gables when I hear this poem and it’s been a favorite of mine since childhood. 😊 Gorgeous video and narration!!
Maija Paija Oh god im so glad someone else said this because all i can think about is anne reciting it and her and her friends acting out the scene.
Same here!!
Me too :)
Yo también aun recuerdo cuando Anne lo recitaba
Maija Paija same
This entire Chanel deserves more love. This video is incredibly made, very immersive, and brings the painting to life! I have the print in my room
Great to know there are still people devoted to beauty in this world. Congratulations!
This took my breath away. The costumes, the acting, the narration! They were all incredible, I can't believe you portrayed this wonderful poem so clearly and beautifully! Well done!
About 5 and half minutes in, and everything is completely brilliant and beautiful so far, but I have to stop and cheer because Jason Kingsley is playing Lancelot! His video series about medieval knighthood is OUTSTANDING!!! I'm so glad that Crow'sEye got him involved in this project! 👍
Yes. I recognised Warlord and had to rewind to be sure of the face. No expert on horses but there can't be many white stallions trained to carry a Knight in full armour. At £10k it's an expensive costume, really glad to see it captured for posterity in an appropriate setting. Totally fits the mood of both the poem and the painting.
I've set the poem to music. I kind of treated it as a peace of musical theatre - I'd love it if you'd check it out! ua-cam.com/video/V3zZkA2655c/v-deo.html
I thought I recognized him!
Beautiful. Incredible how well the depictions lined up with the old paintings!
Spectacular! I had to pause the video at several points (both in the drawing room, and in the dramatisation) in order to excitedly pick apart the costumes; they were so consistently spectacular and accurate, I adored watching this.

Such a rare thing to find on UA-cam - a really high quality adaptation, beautifully and faithfully done. I've used it for a number of years now, when teaching the poem to my Year 6 class. It's a fabulous resource for engaging them and helping them to understand some of the language. Really very grateful to the makers for taking the time and energy to produce something so lovely!
Beautiful! Like paintings come to life!
What a breath of fresh air this video is! Thank you for bringing such high value content to UA-cam, in a medium usually dominated by low-content creators. Personally I am just getting into the romantic poets, and I would love to see more reenactments like this one. Everything about this was so well conceived and executed. Videos this like this could bring poetry to such a large audience. Thank you to everyone who put so much hard work into this!!!
I've always loved Pre-Raphaelite art.
This poem is wonderful 💟
Such an emotional poem which makes me to cry whenever I watch this video!!!
I've set the poem to music. Unlike Loreena McKennitt's serene version, I kind of treated it as a peace of musical theatre - I'd love it if you'd check it out! ua-cam.com/video/V3zZkA2655c/v-deo.html
This is the most wonderful thing I have ever seen.
That’s Jason Kingsley as Lancelot! Love his channel too!
Indeed, wonderful information he has on the Middle Ages!
I love this idea! Like a music video for poetry. Excellent job, absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you all for this production, no less perfect than this perfect piece of poetry.
So sad but beautiful
Wow. Lovely production! Very well done. Love how the classic paintings are recreated here. Sharing it on!
Wow the overall production is amazing the details are are so precise. As a craftsman I love the detailing on the boat to coincide with the Waterhouse painting. The acting is superb particularly the Lady of Shalott herself, I love it when the questioning look comes over her face as she first hears Lancelot . The poem itself is of course a master class in how to write a dramatic story, we are never told why the Lady is in the tower or how the curse came to be associated with her, this all helps to add tension to the drama. A beautiful production full marks to all involved.
This video was perfect for my senior class in British Literature today! I can't thank you enough for this. I am sorry I never found it before--as I have been teaching this poem for 20 years. I would try to draw parts of the description on the board--but this recreation is just excellent! I can't thank you enough--it really solidified the poem for the students.

This poem was set to hauntingly beautiful song by Loreena McKinnett. I encouage anyone to look it up online.
👍💯🎶
Beautiful. Did a wonderful job of recreating the pre-raphaelite paintings.
We actually watched this for school and our teacher and the rest of the class were enjoying it.Keep up the work.
Amazing description and visual effects make the poem all the more beautiful and understandable .. thank you much
This is so good. Thank you so much for making this. The lady of shalott is one of my favourite poem. I am so glad I found this video.
That's so beautifully done. How I imagined the story when i was a child. Thank you so much ❤.
Beautifully done, perfection, really. I’ve always loved this poem. Loreena McKennitt’s song is one of my favorites.
Great job! Beautiful movie. I love narrative verse, and Tennyson's "The Lady of Shalott" is one of the greatest narrative poems ever told along with Poe's "The Raven," Kipling's "Gunga Din," Service's "The Cremation of Sam McGee," Auden's "Victor," Noys' "The Highway Man," Robinson's "Richard Cory," D'Arcy's "The Face Upon the Floor," Longfellow's "The Skeleton in Armor," and Thayer's "Casey at the Bat."
I first heard this poem when reading a British murder mystery novel, and will always enjoy it.
Made me sigh. Beautiful.
Please please please never stop making videos. These are beautiful.
"She has a pretty face" is generally the first thing I think when I find a dead body in a boat...that aside, really great telling and costumes.
beautiful and magical! I remember searching for this poem on UA-cam for my literature exam..5 years ago now..I graduated but this piece still sticks on my mind.
I first learned about Alfred Lord Tennyson while playing a game called Authors I was about 8 years old. Later as a teen I looked toward Tennyson for an English assignment. And choose The Lady of Shalott. My grammer was bad so my grade reflected that however I gained deeper love for poetry at the time.
I wish I could order a DVD of this video. I love it so much. Can you imagine seeing Tennyson do a reading?
One of the most beautiful videos I ever see in years...!!!!!!! Congrats 🔥❤🔥
I wasn't expecting to see Jason! Amazing production! The lady is extremely beautiful.
Amazing. You need to check a 70’s band called Atmosphera, prog rock, their first album -it may also be called their only one- is titled The Lady of Shalott. The new reprinted version has the painting as a cover.
What a beautiful video. This has always been my favorite poem.
It was beautiful... Enchanting... Mesmerizing hypnotic... Thank you
Beautiful. I had always wanted to see this film based on the poem. Thank you for uploading it to UA-cam.
It's just amazing.. thank you so much
OK so I have this picture. It used to be in a house I used to live in but the strange thing is that the room that the picture was in always made me feel uneasy and would commonly remind me of my mortality. But now I know what this picture truly is, it all makes sense it was not the room it was the picture itself.
Beautifully shot. Kudos to the whole team.
Lancelot (Jason Kingsley) has a wonderful UA-cam channel about all things Medieval: Modern History TV. From horses and saddles to weapons to what peasants ate, it's great information.
My favorite poem, painting, and song. Thank you.
I love this! It's actually alike the Waterhouse painting. Everything is perfect.
This is incredible! How am I just discovering this?
I love this, it was absolutely beeautiful.
Praise for the time and effort of making this video
Amazing presentation .I have lost myself in this beautiful poem . going through it I was like ....I have no words to describe it.amazing
Hello, I have set this amazing poem to music and used some of these amazing visuals! I would love it if you would check it out - ua-cam.com/video/V3zZkA2655c/v-deo.html
Wow, it's "shuh-lott". I didn't know, I always just thought "Shall-lutt" when I read it. I am so grateful for this gorgeous video!
Lancelot looks like Jason Kingsley of Modern History TV.
That's because it's him👌🏻. He is named several times in the end credits ✌🏻
Superbly picturised and narrated nicely.
I just watched Tell them of Us the lady is Grace! I love her!
I like their recreation of Waterhouse's painting.
It’s totally an excellent visualisation for the poem.
I loved this.

Such an Outstanding videography.
Hauntingly beautiful.
Incredible! I am in love with this poem jus bcz of the excellent and outstanding representation of it in this video. Thanks! ( My mind still echoes, "THE LADY OF SHALOTT")
Absolutely brilliant production fully sensitive to the sentiments of Tennyson's original poem and Waterhouse's visualisation of this sad fable.
Absolutely beautiful.
Heartbreaking. This is true for so many artists.
