Mike came out to Boston around 1990 could have been 89 or 91. He skated with us in Harvard square. He was just as nice to all of us younger skaters as he is on this show. One of my buddies was just talking about it like last week. He was no celebrity or anything just a great guy there to skate with you. Mike, thanks for keeping it real. I'm only at 1:54 in and maybe the best interview I have ever seen. Thanks 9 Club thanks Mike V.

Hilarious you should say this but Tony Hawk's Underground is (very) loosley based on Mike's Story. Like the gifted pro board. In the game it was Chad Muska you had to "privat demo" for though. :)
Being a 48 yr old and looking back on street skating in the 80's in the tri state area many of us didn't relate to vert ramp skating. When Mike V came along it was just what we were looking for (and to) as our inspiration guidance and progression. He was a genuine soul finger on the street pulse and was so on top of his game that it was a no brainer.

Only 20 mins in but already love Mike’s handle on vocab, narration, adage, metaphors etc. Dude’s a poet “The board’s radiating this energy” & “something inside tells me I can do this”. This went into OOO philosophy & speculative realism
When I ripped my outside hinge back when I was 15, it was at the start of the summer and I got really depressed that I couldn't skate. I messaged Mike online, he responded so understanding, and I swear it healed way faster, powerful dude, thank you so much for everything!
I have so much respect for this man, he's truly an inspiration. I still remember wearing my Mike V etnies in all black! He's a damn man's man, a skater's skater. Much love and thanks for the incredible episode!
I grew up playing missions in video games with Mike V, usually theyd be the type that shows you how to push faster or do footplants in a line around the level, watching tapes and discs on how to skate (a couple that featured Mike V showing u how to do "beginner" tricks up to more advanced ones).. on some level, Mike taught me to skate the way I do and to this day my friends always credit me to be "one of the best skaters in our group" even though I cant do most the tricks they do- I just skate so much differently than they do. Even though he will probably never see it himself- Thanks Mike. I owe so much of my skill and passion to you and your legacy.
This is my favorite Nine Club video. I've always loved Mike Vallely's aggressive skateboard style and everything that he has brought to skateboarding. He has always stuck with being original and not changing to conform to what is accepted. After watching this video and hearing more of his story I have even more respect for him. Keep skating the way that you always have and never change Mike. ~Travis Rose
With my work schedule and life this took me three days to watch all the way and it was the best. I grew up watching Mike and loving his style. He was one of the guys that made me see things in the world differently when it came to what can be done on a board. Thank you, V for being the most badass dude and telling your story!
Just watched the Street Plant Japan Tour after watching this and I've got to say.. I was heavily moved. After everything that's been going on this past few years for me.. to see such genuine love, passion, commitment and community made me break down in the best of ways.. Thanks The Nine Club for the continued effort.

Hearing your story and watching you carry yourself throughout this interview with a composed and humble presence was awesome. In general, people don't do that enough. I can get why that era turned you off and I give you props for doing your own thing all the time. Though I much prefer the coffee shop hipster to the gnarly tough guy :) cheers an thanks for the reply!
@@JaredCzaia Haha! The coffee shop hipster comments are gonna bring the gnarly tough back out! Haha!
@@mikevallely hey Mike not sure if I'll watch the whole 5 hours but can you comment on the video where you pummeled the 4 guys? Real? Thanks
I've been saying his name wrong this whole time.
We all have lol
Hahahaha! We knew ages ago and still called him Vuh-lay-lee. Or Mike V, but we never even attempted to get it right.
@@mackm3875 i'm not American, i always called him Vuh-la-lee, all short, and thought that was correct until now.
M-ikē Veē 🙅🏻♂️
Valley, then “vuh-lale-lee” now “val-la-lee”.
Epic interview. Mike V has always been a legend to me and he for sure did not disappoint. Seems like hes been doing some inner work as well, you can tell! I love the outro music lol
This is like a movie. He paints such a good picture!
Ryan Rediger I got a vivid mental picture of him accepting Lance’s board and running to the beach. So rad.
Thanks Brian! I Always enjoyed visiting Boston.Great Times! Thank You!!!!
I was always the popper too. Never had lunch money, borrowing people's boards, got framed, beat up, and bullied. Mike V is literally my hero now. I always thought he was just this badass but now he seems like the nicest most loving guy. I'm so lucky to hear this interview!
Me too brother, I feel you. I used to bum a dollar to eat everyday off of all my boys in middle school and that shit was rough
This is the best one by far. What an incredible storyteller. Even someone who has never skated would love and understand this.
This guys life is like a long lost THPS story mode, he's just causally bumping into every important skater and impressing them like nothing haha
Hilarious you should say this but Tony Hawk's Underground is (very) loosley based on Mike's Story. Like the gifted pro board. In the game it was Chad Muska you had to "privat demo" for though. :)
You need ta Lear urcsk8 history if Not 4 Mike sk8ing wouldn't be what it is today an one of the most Gnarliest an kindest people ever
90 mins in and we are 6 months in to a 30 year career ! I’m loving this !
the table is amazing. camera angles from mike to crob to full shot really show how epic it is.
Chris has room to rest both elbows now, hah. It looks really good!
like watching an Opera interview.
Its funny to see what Roger's legs are doing under the table
Daniel Tarver Thanks Daniel!
@@focusedskateboardwoodworks1947 You guys are rad! the video showing some of the boards skated that went into the table was really cool!
His dedication and passion for skateboarding is 2nd to none! One of the best interviews ever. Like your show! Regards from Germany.
I could easily listen to Mike V all day! Such a joy and pleasure to have him tell his story in only a way he can
I see Mike V
I Watch
I see it's 5hrs
I Quit my Job and watch this forever
Thank you Nine Club
I just got back into skating after a 30 year lay off. So glad to be back. Thank you so much Mike for saying hi to me at savannah slamma. I'll never forget that day!! Memories forever. And time to make new ones! 50yrs strong
20 years later and I still know this guy can kick my ass. Love Mike V!!!
Why does this have to mean appreciation, confusion.
I think he outgrew that persona now. Hes such a peaceful dude now.
@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise It's okay. No one will let you live down such things. I'm cool with it. Thanks!
Watch out Joey, I also have old man strength now too! Haha!
@@mikevallely skated climax ( Oceanside ) park with you when I was riding for a bunch of co.your presence was intimidating for sure. Only Powell rider ( Rodney as well ) I really cared about! Oooops sorry RAY best style EVER !!! Congrats on making it through the war zone that is the skateboarding industry 😎😎😎From Tijuana with LOTS of love !!!
5 hours? Oh my god yes. Made my day. Thank you Nine Club
Alex Easterday been waiting on this one for a while!
And a special special SPECIAL thanks to Mike V. You're a legend and skateboarding wouldn't be the same without you.
Ya whole day lol
A legend like mike v needs 5 hours atleast
We need a round 2. As soon as possible man. It's so refreshing to hear someone talk about Skateboarding the way I do.
Every minute of this episode was amazing and heartfelt. Truly feel his love for skateboarding.
Only 20 mins in but already love Mike’s handle on vocab, narration, adage, metaphors etc. Dude’s a poet
“The board’s radiating this energy” & “something inside tells me I can do this”. This went into OOO philosophy & speculative realism
for sure...
@@CT-nb5lm Indeed!
You can almost tell he and Rodney Mullen hung out a bunch
When I ripped my outside hinge back when I was 15, it was at the start of the summer and I got really depressed that I couldn't skate. I messaged Mike online, he responded so understanding, and I swear it healed way faster, powerful dude, thank you so much for everything!
If this episode doesn't get you guys too 100k,I don't know what will. Thanks keep killing it
I have so much respect for this man, he's truly an inspiration. I still remember wearing my Mike V etnies in all black! He's a damn man's man, a skater's skater. Much love and thanks for the incredible episode!
Thank You!!!!
I had those shoes too! Liked them alot.
I grew up playing missions in video games with Mike V, usually theyd be the type that shows you how to push faster or do footplants in a line around the level,
watching tapes and discs on how to skate (a couple that featured Mike V showing u how to do "beginner" tricks up to more advanced ones)..
on some level, Mike taught me to skate the way I do and to this day my friends always credit me to be "one of the best skaters in our group" even though I cant do most the tricks they do-
I just skate so much differently than they do.
Even though he will probably never see it himself- Thanks Mike. I owe so much of my skill and passion to you and your legacy.
Mike is a great story teller, I'm thoroughly entertained.
the best episode yet. its a week later still watching. his memory and use of words is amazing. true skater through and through.

Mike's impressions of Stacey and Rodney are spot on!
reikishare and mark gonzalez haah
@@GregMuniz7 Totally! I wasn't that deep into the interview when I typed that. I have to chunk this thing up over a few days to watch it all.
I've been struggling to stay positive and it was as heartwarming as anything I could ask for.
Mike V taught me how to Ollie. I remember seeing that video for the first time. Biggest Ollie I’ve ever seen. Mad respect
He taught me to flamingo
yall talking about sportskool?
Ollie airwalk
I watched this over a few days in my work breaks. I was gonna say what an interview but it really wasn't an interview and more like an episode of This Is Your Life but Mike V hosted himself. Man he has some great stories. Mike has always been an inspiration and legend in my book, thanks for the 5 hours of pure gold.
This is by far the most interesting episode I’ve seen thus far. Mike is a cool guy.
Would gladly watch another 5 hours for the 90’s stories! Can’t wait for the upcoming Nine Club Experience session with him! 😄
Damn. Best episode yet. I was never a huge Mike V fan, but, I'm converted now. It's impressive that a high school dropout with a reputation for being a hooligan of sorts, can articulate and tell a story as well as he can. Most impressive thing I've observed in skateboarding in a while. Gonna go purchase something from his company in gratitude of this display of humility, and offering of worthwhile listening. Thanks The Nine Club for the continued effort.
Thanks Clay! Reputations aren't always well founded my Friend, but we make our beds and we lie in them. I think my Skating has Always done the talking for me. I understand that it wasn't always approachable or relatable in its time but I'd like to think that over time it's stood up for itself. Much Love!!!!
@@mikevallely Mr. Vallely. Much respect and appreciation for your response. I grew up idolizing a different kind of skateboarding, beginning in 1993 or so. As a pre-adolescent, I wasn't conscious of the history of skateboarding enough to give guys like yourself, your due respect. As a reflecting adult, I can view things with more objectivity. Hearing your story and watching you carry yourself throughout this interview with a composed and humble presence was awesome. In general, people don't do that enough. Regardless, of your skating, I have the utmost respect for you and anyone willing to embody a respectable display of character. For that, you have one new fan. Keep it up, and inspire others in offering these stories and/or life lessons. Out of all of the guests on this show, I would without a doubt pursuade you to at some point in your later years to offer up your voice in some sort of public speaking platform. Perhaps you're a natural in something other than just skateboarding. Much obliged for the response Mike V!
@@clayhale1270 So Cool Clay! Thanks my Friend! Truly!!!!
Mike V how can i come skate with you?
This interview is one of the most beautiful and inspiring things on UA-cam, I don't even know how many times have I watched this, but whenever I do it just instantly makes me wanna skate like hell and never stop. Thank you Mike 🙏🙏🙏
This is pure joy! Thank you Mike Vallelly and The Nine Club.
@Mike Vallely I never knew how much pain you had especially in the end of your career. You inspired me so much with everything you stood for. The Tony Hawk Gigantic Tour was huge for me. I think it's great you are doing what makes you happy and still staying true. Thanks Mike
Mike Vallely and Charlie Murphy are the two greatest story tellers ever
Massive legend! What a special... special... SPECIAL!!! interview. Can't believe I've been saying the name wrong for all these years. Keep killing it Mike!
Damn, Mike is cool as shit. From old videos and things I just always saw him as a punk rock guy who's angry and likes to fight everyone. He actually seems very down to earth and genuine. Awesome interview.
Thanks! I never wanted to fight anyone... I just don't like bullies. Much Love!
Dudes this is one of the best story time interviews ever!
We are all in this together skateboarding or not. Thanks for the message Mike and Nine Club.
Thank YOU!!!!
Mike V for president!! An amazing human!
Love he says at 4:00:40. I had that recent realization on a work trip - that I kept looking at things thinking about how I would skate them - and it made me turn around and buy a new board and start skating again.
