    Was with the Viper demo team (F-16's at Shaw) while active duty as a crew chief. The purpose of the sneak pass, in addition to getting some amazing laughs, cheers, and screams, is to show you how quickly these planes can be right on top of you without you knowing they are coming. Humans really have no comprehension of what it means to travel 10+ times the speed of cars on the highway until they see and feel it in person.

      The sound of fighter jet formations flying overhead is incredible. I went to the public portion of President Reagan's National Funeral in D.C. (not inside during the service, was outside). When the military fighter formations flew over... well, it was incredible. One of my lasting memories of that day. In sight, sound and in the feeling of the sound.

      @@dang6832 I wasn't expecting it when it happened, so it startled me at first. A few hours earlier, security made us all quickly evacuate where we were lined up due to a 'rogue' plane flying toward the Capitol building, which turned out to be nothing. This was just a few years after 9/11 so everyone was still pretty paranoid. So add that to the unexpected arrival of multiple formations of fighter jets flying over lol. Being startled only lasted for an instant though, because I had read that there would be a flyover. I had just forgotten until they were doing it.
      I was standing with a woman from Columbia who was on vacation touring D.C. and decided that the moment of the funeral was too historic to not attend. The flyover really freaked her out lol.

    When I was in San Diego, my mom and I went on the tour boat in the bay by the Airforce Airfield and during the tour, we passed the Naval Air Station San Diego, and the #6 Blue Angel was parked at the edge of the field, about 300 yards from out tour boat. I think it was parked there as a tourist attraction. Another encounter was my family were driving to Illinois, and the full air team in formation passed in front and extremely close to the ground. They flew right over us. Very impressive.

      Until you realise that moments before the video was shot, he received a phone call informing him of a close family member passing away, and now he's texting friends and relatives to begin organising what they should do. The point here, is that you don't know what he's doing or why he's on his phone. Some people have more important matters to deal with than you clearly do. Don't judge them, just enjoy the show yourself and stop being so insecure and basing your enjoyment on other's enjoyment.

    I remember when some busybody or other got the annual Blue Angels air show pulled for "safety" reasons from their normal performance over the hydroplane races on Lake Washington in Seattle. They still made the trip, but put the show over Elliot Bay, on the opposite side of the city, so they wouldn't actually perform over where people were sitting or floating. I went to that performance. Sure, they mostly kept it over the bay (the lake locale was over water as well!), but the 5 & 6 pilots pulled a couple of thrilling 100-200 foot passes RIGHT over the crowd at Myrtle Edwards Park! Just as awesome as this vid! 👍

    I've seen a LOT of airshows over the last four decades and seen a lot of different aerial teams - but the Angels are my favorite. All the teams do amazing formations and stunts, but the Angels never fail to surprise you with a "sleight of hand" maneuver where they get your attention over here, and they RIP over low from another direction! In the old days they came from behind the crowd, pushing Mach 1 and at low altitude - you wouldn't hear them coming, just WHAM! as they screamed over your head from behind. The last time I saw them they still pulled this (in spite of newer safety measures installed) because I was watching from my boat. I was based in West Germany at the end of the cold war on an F-18 equipped airfield and never tire of watching them.

    Many pilots lives are lost, even at air shows. Flew with one and they shared with me the many friends and colleagues which were no longer breathing, and detailed all the mistakes that lead to their demise.

    Used to love to watch these guys while at work in La Jolla doing their practice from the roof top at my building. They would fly over me at about 40 ft high while they were upside down. My co worker used to tell me if they put their hand out we could probably give them a high five. This is when they would practice a week in advance for the Miramar air show. Oh how I miss that job and the thrill that came along with it

      far from supersonic

    • @That9one1Guy
      @That9one1Guy Рік тому +2

      @@seansean9675not with a shockcone like that. See those quick cloud-like disc formations? Those are called vapor cones. Below supersonic and above subsonic velocities is a variable area called transonic velocity, usually described as between 0.8 and 1.2 Mach. You see this effect with everything for bullets to battle jets.
      As the airframe is moving through the air, the air in front of it has to move around it. At different points around the airframe, air is moving at different speeds, some the same as the airframe, some slower, some faster. This is due to a combination of factors including but not limited to altitude, air pressure, air density, temperature, even humidity.
      When an aircraft is flying at transonic speeds, in some places around the airframe, the air around it actually goes supersonic. When that happens, you get a significant pressure drop, which causes instantaneous condensation, and voila, you get vapor cones.
      So, @robeddy3722 is correct. These jets are nearly supersonic.

      @@Jake_Innes I’ll be honest with you, before I understood what each current fighter was useful for I pretty much just told myself (before f22) that f15 was simply ‘the best’
      Looking back it’s funny how uneducated I was then. F18s AOA beats all besides thrust vectored. F16 owns the rate fight in a two circle. F15 owned (before f22) the BVR fight.
