I just had a similar problem installing a repro map light in my 1970 Mach 1. Drove me nuts. It should have been a simple plug in and you'd be good to go. It turned out that both connectors on the map light were bad! I had to splice in 2 new connectors and then it worked as it should have from the beginning. It looks like there was a defective batch of these made. It is sad that the unit did not perform as nice as it looked. This is the chance we all take using repro parts, sometimes they work great and other times, not so much.
I'm in agreement with you. Sounds like there was a bad batch of these made. There was nothing visually wrong with the one I had and you can only tell when you used a multimeter on it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that had this issue! I'm with you on repro parts. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
Nice, I like that you were able to easily diagnose the issue. I'm glad that it was the light connector and not something deeper in the car. :)
The video makes it look easy to diagnose. It really took an hour and a half of fiddling with it. I’m happy it was something simple as well.
Nice work 👍
Thanks! It's project after project, but I'm happy with everything getting fixed.
I had the exact same problem with my map light, thanks for the video!
Bad connector? Sad to see it’s not fixed yet in their manufacturing! Glad I could help.
@@SmackeysGarage Yes, neither the green or black wires had continuity to the switch.
Glad you got it sorted out!

Fun video. We’ll probably never need that light but it’s just cool knowing that it’s there if we do.. LOL. Great job bud 👍🏻
Thanks! I know it's a unique feature of the car. I don't remember the last time I actually had a physical map of a road.
How much? 🎉
Haha. Not for sale
