    Before his show at the legendary Ryman Auditorium, Shakey Graves (born Alejandro Rose-Garcia) met up with PG’s John Bohlinger to detail his retro-flavored axes and triple-amp setup.
    Shakey Graves spends a good deal of his show playing solo, armed only with this Gibson ES-175D straight into an amp. He picked up this archtop at Gibson’s Austin HQ a few years back and it’s been a big part of his sound ever since. This guitar stays strung up with beefy D'Addario EJ22 (.013-.056) strings. When he’s not using his fingers, Shakey uses Clayton Customs 0.72 mm picks.
    Shakey Graves’ Fender American Original ’60s Jazzmaster was updated with a Mastery bridge. It’s a new guitar, but this funky offset took a few bad hits on the road that aged it cosmetically and rendered the top switch unusable.
    For acoustic tunes, Shakey Graves goes with this 2011 Washburn R321 SWRK Parlor Series acoustic. The guitar came with an unidentified pickup and the DIY soundhole cover comes courtesy of cardboard, gaff-tape, and necessity.

    Such an enthusiastic, engaged guy. These rundowns are getting better and better as the artists understand how to discuss their gear in a detailed, personal way like here.

      fiendskull9 if you treat it as your only channel you can get a tone from it, it just sucks when referenced to the clean channel cause they don’t match at all but I’ve used the gain channel with just a little gain to have that slightly broken up tone straight from the amp as a foundation

      I love the Gain1 channel on my DRDV (412). Gain normally set about 3-4, gives a perfect classic rock tone with my Telecaster. Very rarely rely on my pedals now for dirt.

      Chaz Michael one thing he is a master of is dynamics. His shifting from softly picked notes to loud staccatos sometimes in the middle of a measure is so cool. His first audiotree performance where he does roll the bones is a great example. It really gives his music a sporadic, frantic and chaotic feeling

    I have the new Jazzmaster with the Mustang bridge. It was too wide for the fingerboard. The high and low e strings came way too close to the edge as you went up the neck. I immediately changed it out for a Mastery bridge. Not only was it the proper size, the sustain is improved and it stays in tune unbelievably. Changed out the vibrato unit as well to Mastery.

    • @markferguson3745
      @markferguson3745 2 роки тому

      Yeah, there's still some problems that Fender should permanently address.Like the TOM on the Mascis model, - the wrong radius for the fretboards, thus issues with the two E's.

    • @danminkler
      @danminkler Рік тому

      Damn I've been wondering about that... sometimes I'm playing and I feel like I'll accidentally roll the high E off the neck or that it's hard to grab. Maybe I'll have to try the mastery bridge.
