I was an avid QVC watcher so I had seen the demonstration you used by the founder of Tatcha. However, for some reason I’ve been lazy lately and haven’t used it lately. Of all the things to stop, I’m asking myself why on earth I stopped that product. I went and dug it out and will add it back into my morning and night regimens. Thank you. I’m 56 and just found your channel. I’m anxious to watch more of your videos.
So i was always told that a softening toner does the same thing (Minus the powerhouse ingredients) but as long as u apply ur powerhouse serum it all wrks the same...meaning it prepares ur skin 2 absorb the next step cuz ur skin is wet.
I’ve used Japanese skincare for well over a decade. I love essences and anything skin care related. I’m thinking of going to school to be an esthetician I love skin so much. Thanks for this video. I’ll check out your links.
I have heard of an Eastern practice called Seven Skins…. Layering essences up to seven layers to add moisture to dry skin. Your information now helps me better understand how this practice would deeply moisturize your skin.
Thanks so much Melissa for this tutorial. I have wondered for years what Essences are and what they do, now I know! I would love a tutorial on your beautiful eye makeup. It's lovely and your look beautiful.
Hi Melissa. Thank you. I am 62 & while I have heard of essenses before, I have never bought one not did I knowx what they did. I would def like to try it. Thanks again.
I started using Sunday Riley Pink Drink Essence in May and I can’t believe the difference! I am going to be 39 on Friday and I have no wrinkles! I have never had any Botox or even a professional facial. My Mama taught me a skin care routine as a teen and preached sunscreen. Mama’s know best!!!!!! ❤️
Oh Melissa, I so agree with you. I have used the Sukoyaka Suhada Urea Essence for years, since Penn Smith mentioned it too. It is my first go-to essence for my face. I turned my daughter-in-law onto it too. It is so nice. Duh! I say this almost every time I watch your videos! Yes, put the Sukoyaka in a spray bottle and spray it later on in the day all over your face. Why did I not think of that???? Anyway thank you for that suggestion. You look so pretty in that sweater and the jewelry you had on is beautiful. It is amazing how all colors seem to go well with your skin. That is so fantastic!!! Thank you for the video, dear friend.
I seriously thought I knew it all about skincare at this point. I didn’t know about this! Fascinating!! Thank you so much Melissa for this info! Can’t wait to get my essence!! 😊
Good Morning Melissa🌞 all the way from St Louis. Hope you're doing well! Taking care of my COVID kid. I'm 52 and have an 11 year old boy. He keeps me young. Have a great day!
💖 I have been using multiple essences to my daily routine ever since this video came out. There is a noticeable difference in my skin's hydration and my skin is brighter! Thanx, Melissa! Praying for a speedy and full recovery 💖
I did not know this! I've been using my retinol before my essense, and obviously I've missed the plot. Thank you so much, I anticipate a much better result in future.
Save a lot of $$$ and make a strong cup of green tea and soak the paper cloths in this tea. I add essence to the tea as well. Also I store the leftover in the refrigerator for two weeks. Feels great on the skin in the morning just swiped on the face with a cotton pad and then apply my vitamin c and sunblock. If I had the time to enjoy the cold tea on the cotton pads I would let them sit on my eyes.
I didn't know that Melissa! I honestly thought essences were like toner from years back...an unnecessary step and would probably dry me out but I'm gonna try one and see! Thank you 💜
Great video. I believe that toners are very similar to essences. Good toners (usually Korean or Japanese) go just after cleansing to provide hydration, balance the pH and boost the penetration of active ingredients.
I have been using this “trick” for a while now. I even have some of the same essences. I have about 4 essences and do the Korean 7 layers. My skin went from looking really good to looking great.
Hi Kari. Korean skincare can utilize many layers instead of just 1 or 2. Essences make doing 7 or even more layers feasible because they are so thin they all can penetrate.
I bought the sukoyaka essence and the face cream.. it soften my 11’s and softened my face. It’s the first time using a product that delivers. My face looks a lot better. Hydrated smooth. I’m very happy with results. I’m waiting for eye cream. Thankyou for showing us women.
Hi Melissa!! I am 52 years old and Japanese woman!! I always enjoying your video and really glad that you often recommend Japanese cosmetic😃 I live in U.S now so kind of difficult to get Japanese cosmetic anymore 🥲 Thank you Melissa🥰
Hey there sweet girl! I LOVE the Japanese skincare I can get. Try stylevana.com or yesstyle.com they are both websites I trust besides Amazon to get Japanese skincare.
I keep telling myself that the products from Sukohaka whatever it is are worth a try. I have super sensitive, rosacea-ravaged dry-combination skin with all the signs of high mileage at age 62. I love my plain fragrance-free Olay Gentle Foaming Cleanser, my Heritage brand plain Rosewater spray, and The Ordinary's Rosehip and Seed Oil, and I use a Cica cream from Essence's Here Comes the Good Stuff line and a milky eye balm by Simple, but I'm somehow wanting to do - and spend! - more. So maybe you're a bad influence, but you're a GREAT influencer! Thank you for all your energy and info!
I've heard you speak of the Sukoyaka Suhada Urea Essence/Lotion multiple times. Finally bit the bullet and ordered it after watching today's video! Have a great day!
Hi! From what I recall, Japanese women do several layers of essence, if I’m not mistaken, it’s like 7! Clearly we don’t need to do that but it shows how committed they are to that. I’ve been using them for several years now and I do about 2-3 layers of it. I definitely need less moisturizer even for my dry skin.
Hey Lady!!! I bought your favorite one..I had no idea what this was..I am 48 I am still in shock at what this does....It makes using the skin care so worth while!!! It is a beautiful thing!!! Thank you for your information!!!
I have started using the Cerave Hydrating Toner, with ceramides, niacinamde and hyaluronic acid. It can pick it up at Target, and it is very reasonably priced (under $9). It works just like an essence!
@@mwcmwc8768 I’m actually ability to order another bottle as I only have a quarter of the bottle left. Sometimes I just use it like an essence, not using a cotton round. My skin feels plumper and more hydrated! The other product that adds a ton of hydration is The Ordinary’s Amino Acid serum. I apply it after I the toner, before other serums.
Your makeup and skin in this video looks absolutely beautiful! What essence have you been using the most ? I think you mentioned the urea one at the end. In today's video, there is a definite additional glow and difference. Thank you for your videos, Melissa! They are a wealth of info 🎉💕🌻
Hi Melissa, can you share what the proper order to put all the products on your face? I was putting my essence on LAST🙈 which is prolly why it wasn't working lol I'd really appreciate it! And can you share the link for the earrings you wore in the video (you had mentioned they were sold out, but there was no link) Thank u so much!
Thanks for reminding me I need to get a replacement! Just finished Elf Hydrating Water Essence in Dec., but I'm going to get another fave now, May Coop Raw Sauce. The Fresh Kombucha one is really nice, too. And as per another video, I love doing the 7 Skins method at least once a week, it makes a huge difference.
Melissa, thank you so much for this video, so kind and thoughtful of you to share your personal journey to help other women like me. I just turned 55 years old last month. A year ago I came across your video and I decided it was time for a facial skincare routine, because before that, since I was fortunate enough to take after my mother and inherited her beautiful flawless skin, I never did anything to my face except wash it with dove soap. I always wore very little makeup just eyeliner mascara and lips (still do) because the rest of my face is in very good shape for my age. I always receive compliments and was always asked what kind of lotion do I use and I just used to say, it's my gift from God that I inherited my mom's skin and hair. That's the truth. I have a friend who's an Esthetician and I told her about your video and the Korean Essence you recommended, Sukoyaka Suhada Urea Moisturize Lotion, and asked her what she recommended. She told me I love this, it has a ton of wonderful actives in it. Then She recommended a skincare routine for me to do morning and night, she wrote it down and that same day I purchased everything she recommended: a Derma Roller (she taught me how to use it once a week), Glycolic Acid 7% (use twice a week) and for my morning + night skincare routine 2 Essences: Sukoyaka Suhada Urea Moisturize Lotion, and Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. Then: Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera 100% Gel (Pure, no color added), Dermaxgen 30% Matrixal 3000 Peptide Booster Serum, The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalene Serum, Differin 0.1% Cream (I recently switched to Trentinoin 0.1% Cream and I also began doing Facial Massage 4 Times a week and 5 For Yoga Exercises 4 Times a week. In Morning: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Moisturizer SPF 30; and At Night: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Moisturizer Night. It takes me about 5 minutes to do my skin care I use a fan to dry my skin faster in between products to speed it up and it has stopped the aging process. My skin looks exactly the same way it did a year ago! Thanks again!
Remember though to NOT use these with tretinoin. Tretinoin is meant for the upper dermis, not the lower layers, and if it gets deeper it will thin the lower layers of your skin, which you don't want.
What can you suggest for someone such as myself, Iam 48 yrs old and I have always struggled with acne my whole life…anyways any tips for applying make up, I find my makeup sits inside my pores, acne pits whatever you wanna call them😋 I would really appreciate some tips👱🏽♀️
I just ordered 2 bottles of #1 to add to my routine. I’m 60 and never did anything for my skin but wash it. Lol. I didn’t have bad skin but when I hit 58 I noticed the lines etc. So I’ve dived into skin care. Luckily I wasn’t a sun worshipper because I’m born platinum blond hair and light skinned so sun wasn’t my friend so not too much sun damage. I’ll let you know how it goes adding this essence. Thanks for the tip😍
Fantastic video! I LOVED the demonstration you showed us. The visual was so helpful! And that sponge analogy made so much sense, but I had never thought of that before. Your skin looks absolutely GORGEOUS! Thanks, Melissa. I adore you! ❤❤

I didn't realise just how it worked until your video I just knew by my face it was a game changer! As always thank you for a brilliant video. I hope you are all well. With love xxx💖💖💖
On my next drugstore trip, Im genuinely going to pick up a few different kinds and incorporate. We are so far behind over here, its crazy, Thank goodness im still 30 & learning this now. What an eye opener, Melissa! Thank you so much for sharing. I will order this Essence product (one of them). I love the way your skin looks! I have a cousin that resembles you so much. Every time I watch your videos, I'm reminded of her. I told her about you and sent her a link, and she loved it. She thinks you have beautiful skin. You're such a beautiful woman, inside and out.
Hi Melissa. I'm 54 and seem to notice more and more little wrinkles popping up every week! & I've been trying so many serums, face creams, eye creams and with one of my sephora orders received a sample of an essence and thought it was like a "toner" which I use anyway. I've been using Clinique cleansing products and their moisturizers for yrs along with this, that & the other. I have the Kiehls essence. I think your skin is just beautiful and you don't show many lines of course you're probably alot younger than I am. I love how informative your videos are & I will be trying one of these products. Tatcha is very pricey but do you suggest a specific moisturizer that I should use after applying an essence? I hate getting old, Melissa & want to hang on to a youthful appearance so badly. Lmk please. xoxo Lisa from Chicago💗
Hi Lisa. I get the wanting to fight getting older! Skip the expensive Tatcha & try one of the others. I recommend the Benton Fermentation Essence & the Sukoyaka Suhada Essence. I did a skincare layering video after this one & I'll link it for you. I love essences & sometimes they're all I use, besides sunscreen. My recommendation for moisturizer after in the daytime would be the Hada Labo amzn.to/3PCIJO1 And at night the Sukoyaka Suhada cream. amzn.to/3qTkKQ3 The last cream is super duper hydrating. So much so that it's almost sticky. But I wear it every night & it's the only cream that I wake up with my skin still feeling hydrated. I live in a dessert climate so that's saying something. But I always like to tell people about it's texture because I don't want them thinking I'm crazy for recommending it. I know it's not for everyone but I love it.

I’m using the Laneige skin cream, it’s a liquidy lotion. It’s great at night under Retin A, and it looks gorgeous under foundation. So lightweight, but so moisturizing. Problem is, adding a layer of sunscreen over the essence….now I’m back to just too much. I know I have to wear sunscreen, but it’s such a pain in the ass trying to find sunscreens that work well under foundation.
@@sandraedwards5471 yes, I didn’t like the color of the Australian Gold on me. I have Elta Md spf 41 tinted sunscreen, and a tinted sunscreen from Paula’s Choice. I do use them, but sometimes I just want to wear real makeup! Planning on trying the Drmtlgy tinted one everyone raves about lately.
Hi Geslina, I use only sunscreen during the day all year long...if I need a little foundation somewhere I just dab it lightly over the foundation, never rub it because it makes a mess...after a few minutes they have blended together...so easy I can do this half awake...pick the right shade of foundation and I'm sure you'll really like this...

That's great Jill!
So i was always told that a softening toner does the same thing (Minus the powerhouse ingredients) but as long as u apply ur powerhouse serum it all wrks the same...meaning it prepares ur skin 2 absorb the next step cuz ur skin is wet.
Yes, exactly right Dee. I do love having the Fermentation Essence & the Urea is the best moisturizer I've ever used on my Sahara Desert skin! Lol

That sounds awesome Robin. Go for it girl!
I have heard of an Eastern practice
called Seven Skins…. Layering essences up to seven layers to add moisture to dry skin. Your information now helps me better understand how this practice would deeply moisturize your skin.
Yes, you're absolutely spot on Shari!
Thanks so much Melissa for this tutorial. I have wondered for years what Essences are and what they do, now I know! I would love a tutorial on your beautiful eye makeup. It's lovely and your look beautiful.

I did not know this! I've been using my retinol before my essense, and obviously I've missed the plot. Thank you so much, I anticipate a much better result in future.
I'm so glad it was helpful Jodi.
I also like Penn’s tip to use those compressed paper masks by soaking them in those essences.
Absolutely that's a great tip Alicia!
I did not know and have not "yet" used an essence. Thank you for the eye opener!

Exactly! 💖
I have been using this “trick” for a while now. I even have some of the same essences. I have about 4 essences and do the Korean 7 layers. My skin went from looking really good to looking great.
What’s, “Korean 7 layers”?
That's awesome Stef

Hi 👋 how are you doing?
Hi Cathy. The Sukoyaka is sometimes the only thing I'll use if my skin is hurting & sensitive. It's really soothing to me.

Oh I think you're going to absolutely love it! And after you try it, if you do like it, the eye cream is heavenly on my wrinkly eyelids & under eyes!
You're so right! I use several too. I like it because it never feels heavy! So happy you already use them! Wonderful!

I have a friend who's an Esthetician and I told her about your video and the Korean Essence you recommended, Sukoyaka Suhada Urea Moisturize Lotion, and
asked her what she recommended.
In Morning: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Moisturizer SPF 30; and
At Night: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Moisturizer Night.
It takes me about 5 minutes to do my skin care I use a fan to dry my skin faster in between products to speed it up and it has stopped the aging process. My skin looks exactly the same way it did a year ago! Thanks again!
Sounds like a great routine!
Remember though to NOT use these with tretinoin. Tretinoin is meant for the upper dermis, not the lower layers, and if it gets deeper it will thin the lower layers of your skin, which you don't want.
Can we use it with retinol?
Makes sense, thank you
What can you suggest for someone such as myself, Iam 48 yrs old and I have always struggled with acne my whole life…anyways any tips for applying make up, I find my makeup sits inside my pores, acne pits whatever you wanna call them😋 I would really appreciate some tips👱🏽♀️
My recommendation for moisturizer after in the daytime would be the Hada Labo
amzn.to/3PCIJO1
And at night the Sukoyaka Suhada cream.

The last cream is super duper hydrating.

Have you tried a tinted mineral sunscreen? I love the Australian Gold! No need for makeup with this product.
The trick is to find a sunscreen that doubles as a moisturizer. I am currently on the hunt myself.
try Darphin intral sunscreen.. it’s lightweight and looks/feels good under makeup..
