Give it a full season and this will be as close to completely recovered from it's close shave as matters. Looking forward to the final part of this series and the start of the next!
Thanks for the videos, I watched all 3 (plus a bunch of others) I now know how/what to do with my privet hedge (wayyy too tall and only green at the top) the only problem is, it's the beginning of April now and in my area we're well into Spring. I don't want to wait for 10 months to cut it back (as recommended to cut when it's dormant). Will I ruin it if I prune now
I don't know where you live, but in Zone 6 I would absolutely go ahead and cut them back now. They are coming into an active growth period and will throw new growth quickly, as the hedge did in this video. If you are in the middle of a drought, do NOT cut them back and if there is a drought after you prune make sure to keep them watered.
For leggy and overgrown privet hedges, how do you determine how much to cut them down? I have a leggy privet hedge that’s about 4-5 feet tall. How much would you suggest to cut it down to promote more bottom growth?
cut semi privet hedge with stihl ms250 1978 down to 18 inches chain fell off 3 times with power head up turned around power head down chain never came off saftey feature so you dont cut something off like private features

Can't wait for the update, good job.
Great informative series! I learned a lot! Thanks for sharing.
That’s a very helpful video. I cut my laurel hedge to two feet from the ground. Now I’m worried that it won’t grow back.
Great job! Looks very neat and tidy.
***** Me? I'm unorganized and hectic! lol
oh wow I thought this video was going to be something else. have you ever tried running through privet hedges?
We call this renewal pruning. Is that the correct term? I look forward to your vids, thanks for making them.
***** Thanks for the clarification! The link didn't seem to come through.
