      Haha 😆 I know I just seeded and fertilized mine And I guess I'm just sort of trusting blindly that it's going to work. Although the video I watched before this said do it in the fall and do the compost first then the seed then the fertilizer so completely backwards from this video

    Problem...solution...prevention. LOVE this video! Most of the videos I’ve seen are just about fixing the problem. This guy explained prevention and living in Colorado where it snows one day and feels like early summer the next, this completely explains what those brown patches are in the shaded areas.

      Me too. But I must be the female version bc when I came from a gardening comment... I just thought that's for old ppl. At least I'm not the only person who thinks this stuff. Although, I did take a while to cut a certain part of my grass. The landlords never told us what sections we have. Of course I have the most land... 😒, That I don't need.but so I cut it. It rained. It turned brown. Its now stuck in the ground. And so I think I pretty much killed the grass. Tis why I'm here. There was like branches growing outta there :/. Wever, I'm out in the country. I don't think anyone truly cares

    My local store doesn't sell staaahta fertilizer. Can I use starter fertilizer instead?

  • @greenmarine5
    @greenmarine5 5 років тому +1

    it's mainly caused by improper sharpened mower blades, you need a clean cut on your grass or infection can set in especially on a new lawn. Not so much on a lawn that has a good root structure. In fact in the upper north you want to seed in late fall, so the seed can germinate over the winter and build a strong root structure

    THUMBS UP! I tried this method a few weeks ago and my lawn is sprouting up!! I didn't use a rototiller, just a hoe to loosen the soil. If you have digger dogs, I'd suggest fencing it off or putting chicken wire over the new grass until it's fully sprouted.

    Pretty good job. NIT: At the end you said to stop adding fertilizer. It's better to add fertilizer in late fall for a an early spring green-up. The grass will take it in, but it won't speed growth up once it gets cold, so after your final mow, you don't need to worry about it

    Roger says at 2:38 that any seed you can see thats not covered with compost will not germinate. I don't know about that. I think if you keep the soil that the seed is sitting on moist, the seed will remain moist. Plus in another episode he and Kevin are using Scotts EZ Seed where there is a lot of seed you can see when you're done throwing it on, and the grass grew in thick. And grass in the wild grows when the seed falls on the ground uncovered.

Gonna get someone to come and power rake and aerate, I think I need a shade/sun blend like here. My lawn that gets shade cover through most the day is doing alright, but the sun side is doing crummy.
