I have met very few “shy” actresses. Vera Farminga, that woman that played Cersei in Game Of Thrones. That’s it. Thise are the only shy actresses in existence. Audrey Hepburn maybe. Yup. 4 thats it.

one of the few times he is almost overwhelmed is with Flula Borg, who he is now doing a lot with cause that guy is lightning fast and almost never breaks character

in hollywood everyone always seems so outspoken and extroverted. it‘s so good to listen to someone like her who actually admits being extremely shy and sometimes socially awkward. i think a lot of people can relate to her :) she‘s great!
Yeah yeah I think a lot of actors even if introverted try as much as possible to be outspoken which is a comendeble but someone actually being honest about their shy or introverted nature is very refreshing and nice to watch.

Very clear English, as in "Carol" she seemed to play how I see she really is. The way she was sitting and responding to his questions reminded me of the late great Audrey Hepburn. And they were/are very both very very beautiful.

Yeah he does those 'raunchy' jokes with certain actresses he knows can banter with that kind of humour (and when he misjudges he's still quick to change routes) so it's kinda sweet to see him match Rooney's more shy personality!

She's honestly looking like a very shy person. Look at her eyes when she's talking. Idk how to describe it but I can relate to the movements and gestures so much.
I don't see any signs of being nervous or awkward. Even when lady bits are discussed, which would be an uncomfortable topic for a truly shy person. Conan himself was visibly more nervous in his first ever show, than Rooney Mara here. Harrison Ford is often more visibly nervous in interviews, Anna Faris is too, compared to this
@@shredd5705 he does a lot of moves a shy person does. Playing with her hands, doesn't separate her knees, laughs when interrupted, moves forward a lot.

I'm glad that a successful public figure is talking about being shy because I'm shy and people always either try to say I'm lying about it or are just shocked because I can hold conversations and I'm not completely helpless. A lot of people think anyone who is shy can't integrate into society, make friends, or talk. LOL
Yeah and most times I try my very best to make small talk and when it ends badly it really takes a toll on me. But everyone just sees that I started talking so I must be an extrovert. I really hate making the first move but hate awkward silence even more , like please start talking to me I will talk back I promise!

I'm not shy, but I'm SUPER awkward. Like, I can read social cues, but I just take ages to. Idk how to explain it. My son is autistic and he's like the opposite. He LOVES people but he can't read social cues at ALL!!! He's almost 19 though. I think it's cute.
This is just another example of Conan's genius in interviewing guests. He made all the mainstream hosts look ridiculous by comparison.

She reminds me of this girl that I currently work with - soft spoken and funny, and she's since become a good friend of mine. These types of people are so nice to be around because they make you feel so comfortable around them and you can talk to them for hours about anything.

As a former shy person, the first thing you do in a situation you're required to talk is to say you're shy to lower expectations and in hopes people are more gentle when you run out of things to say.

As a painfully shy person myself, I will never be able to understand how a really shy person can be an actor...scream, cry, love.. in front of a huge camera crew, stage... etc. I just can not understand it and if someone could tell me hows that possible I'd love to hear it.
I don' know if this will explain it... but in my situation Yes I'm also very shy and on top of that an introvert, like I can go through many ways to avoid interacting with ppl while there too need my alone time to recover from interactions... however I wouldn't have that much of a problem to take on an act and do it in front of others since that is not me. I'm not presenting myself, everything that I show is pretend, I'm only playing a role. I'm not an actress but whenever I get a task of doing smth if it is presented as "you are the host(?) of blabla" I think ok I have a job of playing host (you know after the mandatory panic at first)-how would a host behave and then I take on that role. Almost as if I hide the real me behind that act, and it makes it so much easier because when I'm done I just leave it there and go back to my cocoon or whatever hahaha. Quite honestly it can be fun a lot of times, but I don't know if that's a good thing because what if everything I present is just pretending...???
Perhaps it is an escape from constantly feeling "shy". We all have an escape of sorts. I was a fairly shy kid, but I desperately wanted to be in plays and such.
Yes i keep asking myself that .. i think they are not that shy but they think they are .. comparing to other actors
Acting is her "escape mechanism" and because it's "acting", it is not herself, she turns into a different "persona/avatar" so it doesn't affect her and shyness goes away. And it is fair to mention, shyness does not affect the same way to every person. The "normal" shyness is simply a sensation of fear about doing something around other people, but people with shyness is not limited because of it. If shyness is becoming a wall in your life, then there's a chance that it is not shyness and it is more of a phobia, or even social phobia to be more precise and that's a whole different story.
As someone else mentioned shyness doesn’t affect everyone the same way. I’m an actor myself and also a shy person I’m kind of socially awkward but acting has helped my confidence and speaking abilities so now I’m definitely not as shy as when I was younger. I still get shy when talking with large groups of people AS MYSELF and I sweat and shake when talking AS MYSELF. So much of acting is imagination and putting yourself in the circumstances of another character that you’re so focused on what you’re doing that the shyness dissolves into nothing and the nervousness, dissipates when you’re really really in character :) it’s really interesting I hope I helped in answering your question.

Yeah she’s not shy. She’s pretentious. She never came out of the role of Lisbeth Salander. She plays up the whole awkward, shy introvert thing because she thinks it will make her stand out. Genuine shy and introverted people like Keanu Reeves or Kristen Stewart aren’t going on about being introverts (and in Kristen’s case) or shy. They just are. Rooney has no problem going on shows, to award ceremonies, or taking her clothes off frequently in movies. That’s not shy.
