Man, imagine being that bass sitting alone next to oher shiny ones in the shop and one day magic happends and you wake up playing all those great Rancid basslines. How lucky that bass is, one in a million! 🎸 Thank you mr. Freeman for your videos! ❤

I love instruments with histories, even if current owners don't know it. Buying second-hand is always more interesting than stock from the store.
It does tickle me funny thinking the original owner of that bass recognizes it in the hands of a legend. Great stuff Matt, as always.

As a younger man when I owned a bass I got a midnight blue Fender Jazz purely because I was playing your stuff. I was surprised recently in an interview at how you started/always had a precision and how much more than I realised you used fingers as well as a plectrum (pick to you).
I was young and naive. However I loved that Jazz

I went into *the shop in Edmonton Alberta at the age of 18 with 3 bass guitars on my mind: Stingray, P-bass, and J-bass. Played them all but you cannot beat the tone of the Jazz. Absolutely phenomenal. I hope to age my J-bass as exquisitely as yours is aged, already started on that belt buckle rash

My personal all-time fave Fender production jazz bass, and wondered your thoughts on it (if memory serves one was also listed in your arsenal on the official Fender website back in them days. Thanks for making your extraordinarily good music more accessible with these vids. Punk rock moves for certain.

Would be great to have a video on how you approach writing bass for a song, and if this has changed over time. Like maybe Tim sends you a rough demo on acoustic, then you go from there? Do you apply much theory, or you just build around root notes and what you think might work for the song?

For sure a cool history, but we can’t always know the history of old guitar bass, or camera in my case. Just bought a not pretty medium format for 1935/1938, and love his bad aspect, it mist have a cool history, as your guitar bass must have.

So I love Rics. I have had a couple but the tone just doesn’t go well sonically with Tim’s and Lar’s tone. They seem to get lost in there frequency’s. The one I played in Japan that time was not an actual Ric. It was a custom bass that had the same body shape( because Rics look awesome) and a Bartolini pickup. It also had my name in the neck. Play whatever makes you happy. Thanks for watching.

Nice Bass! I love the Jazz - one question to all you players: Volume on the Pickups always both full up, right? As soon as one pickup isn't fully open, it loses that throaty quality and gets wobbly. At least mine does. Is that the general consensus with you bassy folks? Awesome channel, thx Matt!

10years ago i bought the Tim Armstrong signature gretsch and was going to your signature fender jazz bass but i tore ligaments in both elbows which meant i temporarily lost the ability to play as well as income. so between interest fading due to lack of playomg plus my savings going to cover lost income I never did. I may buy your next signature model and just wall hang it. Beside Tim's guitar.

Hey Matt, small correction, this is rosewood and not ebony! Small info: It has the block inlays, but being from 69 it has the "60s" tone. In 1971 the bridge pickup was moved 1/4 of an inch closer to the bridge, and the tone of the Jazz Bass changed quite a bit. Until 1983. Great sounding bass!
