It's great getting a peak into your world and how you approach gear and playing live. I judge all basses I play by how well they sound playing I Am Forever.
It’s really fun to get to know you through your channel. I spent so much of my teenage years trying to transcribe your bass lines onto blank tablature sheets with a pencil. It’s really cool to see that you’re still at it.
This channel is awesome, I've been a fan for like 20 years and got into playing bass like 5 years ago. So cool to see you go into detail about your gear and playing!
some classic sounds going on there,im a p bass player all the classic bass players used them,i remember buying my first 1977 p bass for £200 took it home plugged it in and there was the sound it was magical!
Love it. Been listening since 92. Heard rancid 1st doubled back to op Ivy by 93 off a recorded cassette tape. Never looked back. Always happy with your projects. Such a wide range in style . Absolutely one of the greatest on 4 strings. Would love to hear more vocals. Thanks for all the music, memories , good times. See ya in the pit!!!
The pork and pickle has been one of my favorite bass drives! Still can’t believe you’re giving us a regular look into your bass world! Thanks Matt and I hope there’s more to come ✌🏻
Wow, Matt! Thank you, brother, for taking some time out and going through the “tools” I very much appreciate both your style attack and uniqueness. And that punchy tone, bro ;-)
Very cool! I remember watching a video from a few years back of you playing the Super Bassman and drooling over the tones. Nice to see (and hear) you using the 800 these days though since that’s the head I ended up getting!
Great video Matt! I tried a Bassman 800 briefly once when I strayed from Ampeg...not for me but only 17 lbs! It looks like it weighs a ton but it's light as a feather compared to the big iron.
I run an ampeg 1540he, which is a 4x10 in the top and 1x15 in the bottom but it looks like the 8x10 ampeg fridge cabinet. But I love having the 15 in combo with the 4x10. When we play small shows I have a two cab option as well I have a 4x10 and separate 1x15 for the cramped quarters.
That's awesome! Absolutely would love to see the Rancid rig too! Last time I saw you guys I don't think I saw you hit any pedals at all the whole show, lol.
Thank you great man Matt ! Wonderful room✨ Are Fender amps a good match? The wah pedal on the bass is really cool. And I discovered that you uses so many effects pedals🎶
Matt, I just found your new channel, so cool! I would love to see you do some stuff off the Life Won't Wait album. Hooligans, Coppers, New Dress. Thanks so much for all the great music over the years.
You’re the goat 🐐 New to bass playing, maybe about 6 months. Learning scales and how to use all my fingers vs. one or two. I want to build up speed and bass line walks but struggle. Any tips would be appreciated sir.
That's some nice freaking grit! I'm running a similar tone only with a electro harmonix soul food pedal and a digitech Bad Monkey...gritty with low end.
I still have a couple. I toured with them when it came out. It’s a great head but when the new 800 came out I started using those. They are lighter and less tubes means not as much can wrong. Although I never have had a problem with them. Thanks for asking
Tube in the pre is much more important than the power in my opinion. Learned that with home audio. Guess it could be different with instruments but I doubt it. Cool video.
Awesome I use a way huge swollen pickle and want to get a pork loin for less dirty sounds I haven't found a compressor I like and the wah I like is super expensive the old Morley power fuzz wah cliff Burtons used I had one but it took a crap and I can't get it to work right anymore and a cheap music lady chorus rounds out my bass effects it's the only one I can find that goes as deep as the built in chorus from my peavey Mark 8 head and I've tried a bunch of different kinds.theres an octave effect on one of my heads but I never use it.i got a ton of pedals I could be using but haven't found a place for anything but what I already use but could definitely add a pork loin lol thanks for being the biggest inspiration to my bass playing from day one
when the pork and pickle one is on, why does it push more air? Like what about that setting makes the speaker membrane move so much more as compared to the other pedals, or other effects in general? Does the over drive prioritize its signal or boost its power? This shit must be magic. or physics. Greetings from Köln, Germany!
Cool Matt, like the posters too. As a kid of the 70’s I grew up with all that good shit, Maiden, Dio etc and then gravitated to punk in the mid 80’s when i started playing in bands. I always had a hard time understanding some of my elitist punk rock band members and friends that slagged that good ass 70’s/80’s metal I mean come on right? I got clowned for my love of Rush as well hey i’m a guitar and music nerd. Favorite band is and always will be the Clash but goddamn Rancid has carried their torch better than anyone and Rancid is right next to the Clash in my book. You rock Brutha , would be nice to meet u one day and jam👍👊🏻
Well, that was friggin fantastic! Excited to see the Rancid rig!
Thanks Matt, these videos are so cool.
Imagine John Entwistle had these videos when you were learning.
Charger is a great band. It’s great showcasing your metal side.
You are a legend Matt you are one of many that inspired me to play bass 21 years ago. Love every second of your playing
When that fuzz hits, I got Sleep / OM vibes
It's great getting a peak into your world and how you approach gear and playing live. I judge all basses I play by how well they sound playing I Am Forever.

Matt, Thank you! From a new bass player working to find his sound! I'd love to see your Rancid setup!
Matt Freeman: "Yeah, so that's about it."
Me: *face melted*
Great rundown. Love how you explained the rationale for the size of the cabinets and the pedal board. Thank you for posting.
Killer rig right there boi !!! Let the metal flow 🤘
Love it all Matt!! Please talk more about your Squiers... I'm obsessed with them!
It's made in China....
A very British metal inspired back drop 🤘
The pork and pickle has been one of my favorite bass drives! Still can’t believe you’re giving us a regular look into your bass world! Thanks Matt and I hope there’s more to come ✌🏻
Love the rundown, and got the chance to hear it close up in Newcastle, UK - 2022 🤘
Amazing video and amazing channel! Thanks for sharing these last few years!
Also, can we get a Sick Sick World video?

Amazing video as always!! Please bring charger down to Florida 🙏
Wow, Matt! Thank you, brother, for taking some time out and going through the “tools” I very much appreciate both your style attack and uniqueness. And that punchy tone, bro ;-)
This was so awesome! Thanks Matt for further proving you are G.O.A.T.
Rad! I didn’t even know you were in another band. Off to check it out!
I love watching these videos Matt, thank you for them! Hoping to see Charger again soon in Chicago🤘🏻
Very cool! I remember watching a video from a few years back of you playing the Super Bassman and drooling over the tones. Nice to see (and hear) you using the 800 these days though since that’s the head I ended up getting!
That sounds just like Geezer. Awesome tone. :)
"Bass solo, take one" @4:27
I'm glad I stumbled upon this channel. This is awesome!
This is great. Freestyle in the zone. That geezer wah sounds much better then the cliff burton Morley. Yeah. I said it.
Awesome! Thanks for the tour of the peddle board. I'm picking up the bass again and trying to find a nice fuzz/wah sound. I'll have to check them out.
Totally made my Friday. Thanks Matt!
Awesome video! I am eagerly awaiting the Rancid version of this. I also use the Bassman head and love it.
Great video Matt! I tried a Bassman 800 briefly once when I strayed from Ampeg...not for me but only 17 lbs! It looks like it weighs a ton but it's light as a feather compared to the big iron.

Love that you guys have eddie (iron maiden) on your wall!! That's metal!
That's awesome! Absolutely would love to see the Rancid rig too! Last time I saw you guys I don't think I saw you hit any pedals at all the whole show, lol.
Thank you great man Matt !
Wonderful room✨
Are Fender amps a good match?

Matt, I just found your new channel, so cool!
I would love to see you do some stuff off the Life Won't Wait album. Hooligans, Coppers, New Dress.
Thanks so much for all the great music over the years.
Awesome. Love the small pedal rig!
That bassmann 800 rules, I have one as well. SO EASY to get sounds with it.
No, we appreciate it... Love the videos 🤘
Awesome Mr Freeman!! Thank you for sharing 🙌🙌🙌🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Matt for this video, It's always good to see what exactly people are using 👌, I've tried rhe 500w version of that amp and it's nice!
Great video love gear rundowns ! New X song drops in 30 minutes Matt!
This was really cool. Can't wait to compare it to the Rancid one when you do that video.
Can’t lie, it’s a like a teaser to seeing the Rancid rig even though they’ll likely be no pedals. My teen self from the mid 90s cannot wait
Not really a wah lover myself, but awesome video and gear. Thanks for that.
Cool rundown! Cant wait for rancid rig!
The set up of GOD!!!!!!!!!!
You’re the goat 🐐
New to bass playing, maybe about 6 months. Learning scales and how to use all my fingers vs. one or two. I want to build up speed and bass line walks but struggle. Any tips would be appreciated sir.
Fantastic content, love to see it. Can't wait for more.
That's some nice freaking grit! I'm running a similar tone only with a electro harmonix soul food pedal and a digitech Bad Monkey...gritty with low end.
Thank you, Matt! Youre the best!
That was awesome! Thanks for sharing 🤘🎸
Powerfull stuff right here.
Sweet Matt! Sounds great!😎👍✨
Matt, any particular reason you put the comp at the end of your chain?
Great vid, looking forward to the Rancid rig!
Love these videos - thanks for sharing this stuff with us.
thanks for this one. Would like to see and hear your upright gear 🤩
Matt! I love this channel!
Good to see you have so much fun playing! 🎉 killer rig! What happened to the all tube super bassman?
I still have a couple. I toured with them when it came out. It’s a great head but when the new 800 came out I started using those. They are lighter and less tubes means not as much can wrong. Although I never have had a problem with them. Thanks for asking
Thank you so much for this!
Tube in the pre is much more important than the power in my opinion. Learned that with home audio. Guess it could be different with instruments but I doubt it. Cool video.
Was that a signature squire you were playing? Nice sounding rig. I use the Proco rat for distortion but that pork and pickles sounds great!!
Thanks for sharing what pick ups do you like and basses ???
Thanks Matt
Can you share what your set up was on the second self titled? It’s been my favorite tone ever and I hope it’s the pedal you mentioned in this video!
Amazing sound. Thanks so much for sharing this also does Lars use the Pork Loin pedal?
Nice!!! Noise🤟 waiting the next video
Great video. At some point could you mention what pick you use and why? Fat Mike often goes on about his thin pick and why that works for him.
In a Rancid 2000 promo video you were very anti-effect pedals. When/what made you change your mind?
I wanted a better tone and and also I ran into situations where I needed to try something different
Can't wait for the rancid run down! Og fan here. Where'd you get your strap!?
ripping with that wah pedal
when the pork and pickle one is on, why does it push more air? Like what about that setting makes the speaker membrane move so much more as compared to the other pedals, or other effects in general? Does the over drive prioritize its signal or boost its power? This shit must be magic. or physics. Greetings from Köln, Germany!
Awesome!!
Super cool Rig 🔥⚡️
Dang that pork tenderloin, tenderloin, tenderloin! Thanks for the tour, know what I'm asking the wifey for X-mas.
Blinding fucking LED in the dyna comp

Very cool Dio poster! 🤘
If Charger could do a show somewhere between the Florida panhandle and Nashville I'd be there!
Awesome video. Thanx!
