Hell yeah! I literally just woke up and got this notification lol It's a great morning already, I can tell! Lol
This is the performance that made her. She went into this festival relatively unknown, and left everyone with their jaws dropped, and a record deal lol This was the first time the world heard Janis's greatness . The crowd was shocked. No one had sang like Janis before this.
They focus on her feet because of how she's feeling the music. Her live performances are ALWAYS worth watching. That woman was so electric on stage.
Thank you for the morning Janis. Made my day lol

What the man is showing with her feet is that when Janis Joplin get so emotionally singing she starts to move and stomp to the point where she will lose her shoes or balance in the movement but maintain her delivery of the song with even more emotion because she feels it with her soul. Only great artists can give such a raw performance like this.

The lady in the audience that was looking "like WOW" was Mama Cass Elliott singer with the 60's group The Mamas & the Papas. Unfortunately she's no longer here to sing any more, but truly Janis made an impression on her. Maybe the cameraman had a foot or shoe fetis(HaHa).

That day at The Monterey Pop Festival everbody lost their minds. It made major news casts & took Janis into the Stratosphere. Janis felt everywhere so deeply from the bottom of her feet all the way up. Patti La Belle feels the same way & lost some expensive shoes that she threw to her audience.

She was heavily bullied and eventually run out of her town. She still had it better than a black person would've had in her situation but I can understand her having a lot of feelings she needed to express, and she was able to translate them into song.

She moved like women had NOT before; wore pants on stage, or cared about doing ANYTHING proper women performers were 'supposed' to do! That's part of why the focus of her stomping feet and shaking around etc. She took the female performance and shattered the mold; like Elvis did in the 50's, Madonna in the 80s, etc. Janis was the first at many things, though taken too young after just 3 years in the Limelight. She became a member of Rocks infamous 27 Club, dying in 1970 at just 27 yrs old, from a heroin overdose.

The film had to be pieced together because on their first performance at that festival (daytime) their manager wouldn't allow them to be filmed, which was REALLY stupid. They fired him and filmed the second show, but had to piece together with filler to flesh out the complete audio. That's why you see the shoes so long, there just wasn't enough video, and why the camera holds on Cass Elliott for so long, which is actually spliced in from a different show (notice when the camera's on Cass it's full daylight, but when it's on the stage it's dusk). It's a very faithful edit to represent the reality but that's why the video is a bit scattered.

This was a fun video. This was the sexist sixties. The cameraman probably did not appreciate how beautiful a woman can be without eyeliner. (The press did not treat Janis kindly.) Cameramen always focused on something else; hair, breasts, whatever. I agree with the comments below, Mama Cass Elliot, one of the best vocalists of her time, was blown away by the performance - and did not mind showing the camera her thoughts. Wow.

JJ was incredible on stage. The best show I saw was with Johnny Winter & Vanilla Fudge was the backup band. She sang her tune, "Down on Main "Me"". When she sang the line Down on Me. She took off running then dropped her knees and slid right into Johnny's crotch munching. Then sang I am down on you, Johnny. Great "Fing" show. I worked at Rock Festivals from the West Coast to the East Coast. West Palm Beach Rock Festival where she performed the tune I posted. Rolling Stones closed the Festival. 3 days of awesome music and LSD were passed out all 3 days.

I used to see her at the Avalon and the Filmore all the time and this was
the best I've seen her. I've seen one other video and it wasn't as good.
I think her performances weren't consistent if you are right. All the
crowd kept on chanting for "Ball and Chain' which was her finale, so
you could be right. I had friends meet her, trying to sell or give her pot.
She was very nice. I also saw her twice buying something on Haight
Street for $20.00 and it was white powder in a baggie. None of my
buddies would believe me. That $29.00 would be $200.00 today.

Airplane wasn't very sociable. Neither was Marty Balin.

She was passed over in the industry bc she wasn't attractive ( in the industries eyes) She talked a lot about how it made her feel to basically be told she wasn't pretty enough to make any real money singing. She had low self esteem about her looks as a result, The camera man might have went to her feet to detract from close ups of her. The media didn't like her facial expressions.
