    Yeah, I struggled with this panic thing. Once I sorted that out by having the vision to watch the play and the skill to make the right play. Like, it transformed my game.

    That's what makes guys like Patrick Kane so good. Their ability to read and analyze a situation and make the right moves.

    My 9 year old niece joined hockey this year for the first time and I feel like your knowledge will help me train her since her team is making her sit out games until she can skate with her head up so sad I know

    Gotta be bad to be good. Slow is smooth, smooth is accurate, accurate is fast.
    Watch a player like Kopitar. Smooth as ice

    I swear 😂 I am more relaxed going across the middle cross-traffic, ready to catch a 125 mph rolling puck on my back-hand vs a wrap around on the boards😅

    Sounds like the way you get experienced when being a driver. Constantly monitor the road so that IF something happens, your available moves are already in the back of your head and you move unconsciously.

    "Reading the ice" takes quite a bit of hockey skill...

    If I see you with you head down I’m playing the body, if your head is up, your looking around, I have to think about what play you are going to make…seconds may be the difference, but that’s all it takes!

    In the military it's referred to as situational awareness. Hockey is like chess on ice

    Coach, I’m starting my hockey journey at 28 aiming to join a beer league next fall. I’m skating well so far but I look very stiff. Any tips on looking and feeling more natural?

    • @howtohockeytraining
      @howtohockeytraining  10 місяців тому

      That is you trying to skate with all your muscles, you need to know which ones to turn off. Work on one foot glides, one foot edge drills, forwards and backwards and lots of edge work with weight shifts. The stiffness comes when your body is not aligned so extra muscles need to be used to keep you in control. With great balance comes more power and smoothness. In hockey you are constantly re-aligning your joints and shifting your weight, so pay focus on your weight shifts, edges and balance and you should improve quickly

    What if you read the ice perfectly before you get the pass and when the puck comes you still panic anyway?
