I'd love to see a "how to shorten puffer jackets" when the whole jacket or puffer coat is too long!
It's even easier to shorten the puffer jacket's bottom than to shorten its sleeves!) Just measure the needed length when the garment is on a person, unsew the lining at the bottom, cut off extra length of both lining and main material (don't forget about seam allowances!), unsew the lining somewhere at the side seams to be able to turn the coat inside out to finish the bottom seam (so it won't be seen), and then finish the unsewed side seam back, turning the seam allowances inside and stitching 1 mm off the edge or hand stitch it. I'm so glad my video was useful for you! 😊💖 I restyled my puffer jacked some time ago, so I'm sorry I can't remember the size of a machine needle that I used - but as always, it depends on the material. If your is light-weighted - maybe you'll be ok with a №80 needle, but of course it's better to check this on your fabric first. Speaking of the thread - I used 100% polyester Dor Tak - it is a popular brand in Russia and not so pricy as Guttermann, etc.
Pls, what is the size of the jacket?
From a geometric point of view, the sleeve should have the shape of a trapezoid in projection. So if you cut in the middle, you should end up with a step. But maybe this shouldn't be a problem for a down jacket because of the many folds. Am I wrong?
Hi!) You're right) But it depends on a sleeve construction. Some sleeves have a gentle "slope" from its bottom edge to an armhole and some - a steep one. I've had the second variant that it easier to deal with. But if a step appears - yes, one should narrow the sleeve's side seam at its bottom. Or make a gather - that is impossible in a case with a puffer jacket as there'll be too much bulk. Thanks for your question!)
