In my view, the most imaginative and transcendent performance in the history of film.

If you want to be immortal as an actor, do a hit children film. He will live forever.

👏🥹Thank you for this one… I’ve heard Gene reference his wilder take on the character he played, many times. Even though he’s moved on from this life he’ll always be Willy Wonka to me. It’s quite a gift to act in such a way he took generations through all the up’s and downs of his legacy. Liking this post easily, loving Willy Wonka, to the last beat of my heart.

it's still very sad that gene wilder is not here with us now as he passed away back in 2016. he was a genuinely a warmhearted good actor & is such a fantastic performer playing in his good memorable role as willy wonka that made him a pioneer in this movie. & what I enjoyed was his great fantastic role in it. he was one of the legendary actors that did so well with his work. he is never forgotten because of those the greatest movies he was in just like this one called wonka and the chocolate factory. he is just one of those guys they loved. they always remember his great works, that's the best thing. & He's such a legendary actor. R.I.P Gene Wilder.

I looked up Home Alone 2 and IMDb said that he was supposed to be Mr. Duncan but turned it down.

      WHAT??? I never knew that!
Oh what a shame that he didn’t accept; I think he would have been wonderful in that role…but around that time it seemed that he was growing disillusioned with show business. Not that I blame him…but he would have been wonderful. My favorite actor of all time…how I miss him.

My goodness, Gene Wilder was such a special performer, his humanity, his humor, everything. Rightfully considered an absolute legend of cinema and comedy.

I always thought the purpose of Willy Wonka faking being crippled was to observe the tour attendees, figuring out which ones would pity him and which ones would grow impatient with him. Charlie would look at him with sympathy while the brats would be thinking 'I hope this old man doesn't die before we get into the factory.'
