Most people forget that Ohtani didn't just have a 50/50 year. He led the NL in HR, OPS, RBI.....and also Runs scored. And he came soooooooo close to winning the Triple Crown.
What an absolutely amazing year. Coming off Tommy John surgery in the offseason.......he defies expectations and breaks all kinds of team and MLB records while leading the LAD to a WS Championship. Becoming the first player to go 50/50. Becoming the first DH to win an MVP. Becoming the first player to ever win 3 unanimous MVP's. Just......Wow!
His records this season speak for themselves: - Set the franchise record for most home runs in a single season with 54 home runs - Achieved a 9.2 Offensive bWAR, the highest in Dodgers' history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 9.0 mark in 1997 - Holds the franchise record for most RBIs in a single game with 10 RBIs (in the game he went 6-for-6 with 3 home runs, 5 XBH and 2 stolen bases) - Most XBH by a LA Dodger (99) - Achieved an RBI in 10 consecutive games, surpassing Roy Campanella's record of 9 RBIs in 1955 - 411 total bases, setting a LA Dodgers record, surpassing Adrián Beltré’s 376 total bases in 2004 - Hit the most home runs in a single season at Dodgers' home games with 28 home runs - Achieved a 190 OPS+, the highest in a qualified season in Dodgers history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 185 OPS+ in 1997 - Set a Dodgers record with 134 runs scored, leading the majors in this category - Posted a .646 slugging percentage, leading the NL and setting a new Dodgers record, surpassing Gary Sheffield’s .643 mark in 2000 - Led the Dodgers in all offensive categories in a single season And I only listed his Dodgers records, not MLB.
The stats speak for themselves! 134 run scored is incredibla really. wow! Shohei is without a shred of a doubt the MVP. There ahouldn't be even an argument on this.
Ohtani 100% deserved this one. Here's the lowdown on what he actually did: 1. First DH with a WAR over 7.... he finished with a WAR of 9.2 2. First player this century to NATURALLY get 400 total bases or more in a season -- no roids or HGH 3. Got within .04 on his Batting Average of winning a Triple Crown 4. First player of any position EVER to have a 50 HR and 50 SB season... finished with 54/59 5. Reached 40/40 with a walkoff grand slam... Reached 50/50 with the greatest offensive game this century. 6. Averaged 1 run driven in and 1 run scored in each of his first 12 playoff games. Helped dodgers win the WS And they are gonna try to convince you that MR. "all defense" Francisco Lindor was more valuable. Don't make us laugh.
Shohei will be the MVP for as long as he's doing what he's doing. Whether he wins it or not is another story. I suspect he'll be snubbed a few times just because nobody wants to see one person get it all the time.
@@Jackson-T23 That is a super 'ouch' comment, but oh so true. Knowing these athletes, they work even harder to be better than Ohtani - when Ohtani turns 50. 🤣🤣🤣 But honestly, kudos to these guys for the guts and effort they (most of them) show.
I'm Japanese. Since Shohei signed with the Dodgers, Japan has been taken over by Shohei. If you go to an accessory store, you'll find Shohei promoting watches. At Porsche dealerships, you'll see Shohei leaning against cars. At Boss stores, Shohei is modeling their fashion. Of course, you'll find Shohei wearing New Balance everywhere. And there's even Shohei wearing Beats headphones. If you go to a department store, Shohei will be there promoting sunscreen. At supermarkets, you can buy food with Shohei's face on the packaging. At the airport, you'll see planes wrapped in Shohei's image. In Shibuya Crossing, there's a 65-foot movie of Shohei playing. At banks, you'll find Shohei on the walls advertising credit cards. If you go to a bookstore, it's filled with books featuring Shohei on the cover. In furniture stores, you can buy Shohei pillows. And at car dealerships, Shohei is there to promote tires. If you have any friends living in Japan, ask them. It's all true.
Acuña is my guy, but I agree with Kratz on that. Granted, I think Acuña has 50/50 in him, while playing good D (if he spends any amount of time focusing on that/trusts his knees). And, if you ignore Ohtani's pitching, you could make a case for Ronald, lol. But, you can't ignore the pitching. GOAT
I think with all the knee issues he won’t be running as much as he used to lower risk of injury. Also don’t see him hitting 50hrs. Don’t think anyone will match the 50-50 ever even Shohei. Remember, he had something like 32 stolen bases without being caught. So he may have never gotten to 50 if he started getting caught in Sep.
it was 54/59 and he was caught stealing only 4 times. Acuna got caught 14 times. 59 steals caught 4 times is way better than 73 steals caught 14 times. Being caught once is like 3x worse than how good 1 steal is.
Everyone, including reporters who vote for MVP, knows the difference between Ohtani and other DHs (such as Ozuna or Papi in the past). Ohtani serves as a DH because he rests his body between pitching starts (when healthy), and this year he was rehabbing. In contrast, others became DHs after failing as field defenders. When Ohtani eventually stops pitching, which may come sooner than one thinks, he will probably become a plus right fielder, given his speed and arm. That's another reason Mookie should be converted to second base. 😀
I don't get why people are so up in arms about a DH in the MVP discussion... Pitchers have been MVPs and they do even less than a DH: They don't even play every day whereas a DH does.
I dont understand when were talking about the mvp voting, why people bring up what a guy meant to their team. Its not the “most valuable to your team award”. Its your overall value in comparison to every other player in that league
2023 he hit 44 home runs while pitching... SITTING THE LAST MONTH. He's more than capable of hitting 50 again AND be the team ace. Shohei reaching "I dare you to bet against me" levels
should have won mvp instead of judge simply because judge used juiced balls and didnt even break the roided record to which he should have been compared... 62* homers

Maybe could have won the triple crown if that girl did t sit out the second to the last game. Panty
How many of those MVP were due to juiced though. Juiced Barry Bonds is the greatest hitter I have ever seen, he would out homer both Ohtani and Judge together if he was given the same pitches they got.
@@Shakazulu6.1 You make it seems like Bonds was playing in the 1920’s or 1930’s. Bonds played 20-25 years ago, that much hasn’t changed since. The juiced Barry Bonds that we saw would do the same damage he did in 2000.

It took a historic home run season for Judge to take the 4th MVP away from Shohei.
