I keep coming back to this over the years as just one of the most purely beautiful performances I've ever seen. It's already a beautiful song, and then add their perfectly matched voices and pure joy in Courtney's eyes and the fatherly pride coming from Billy and this performance is hard to beat.
Billy knows how good Ms Barnett is, and the way he engages and draws her into the performance with eye contact is delightful. Beautifully matched pairing, and Courtney’s little solo demonstrates that underneath all that apparent economy in her style, there’s a lot going on. No pick, either!

Now that is the proper expression to have when you're singing with Billy fucking Bragg. I hate it when younger artists perform with their idols and try to act like they're cool enough that it's not a big deal. If you're living out your childhood dream, the least you can do is smile a bit.

I’ve loved Billy Bragg since I was 15 - I’m 50 next year…..seen this for the first time and what a beautiful cover this is. I loved the songs Billy did with the great Natalie Merchant but this is special !

I've yet to hear a duet Courtney has done with someone and not sound fantastic. Whether she's doing the spoken word stuff, or singing in harmony like this her voice is so natural and recognizable.

It was part of this amazing treasure trove of lyrics-only songs (if memory serves, somewhere around 600) discovered by Woody's daughter in the attic after her dad passed.
I like Courtney's spoken whispery vocal stylings on the EPs (they give the songs an intimate and confidential quality which works well with the lyrics) but this video clip proves she is a very good singer, and I for one hope she utilises it more in future recordings. Show em you can sing Courtney!
