The words “cosmetic,” “aesthetic,” or “plastic” make it sound like the work our surgeons perform is entirely superficial or driven by vanity.
“Plastic” implies that they create something artificial, unnatural, and inanimate…which is completely against their aesthetic and medical standards!
Truth is, the term “plastic surgery” was used first more than 100 years before the invention of “plastic” as we know it. The ancient Greek word “plastikos” means to form or mold, particularly to change an appearance or ability to function. That’s what we do at L&P Aesthetics, and we consider it a noble endeavor and a privilege, based on what we’ve seen in our practice.
A rhinoplasty, for example, may entail just a few millimeters of physical change to a patient’s nose, but its effects can go well beyond the face. Patients of all types have told us that their results have restored their confidence or has given them confidence they’ve never felt before, which has enabled them to enjoy life more fully.
It doesn’t change who anyone is on the inside, but cosmetic surgery can make it easier for people to manifest the fantastic personality and inner beauty they’ve always had! Having elective surgery is not vain or silly, and we don’t believe anyone should feel shame or guilt about it.
It’s a basic principle of mental health that feeling positive and holding yourself confidently in the world is a good thing, and we’re honored that our life’s work helps people do that.
