  • Swelling after a chin implant is usually not bad after 10 to 14 days when using a submental approach (under the chin). However, some patients who have very elastic tissues often times will have more noticeable swelling and for a longer period of time. It doesn't typically negatively effect the outcome over time but it is an important consideration when planning your surgery from a social and professional standpoint. Thank you Dr for this very thorough explanation. I just had a chin implant five weeks ago and my doctor never mentioned any of this and I still have a huge amount of inflammation. You were very helpful and kind for sharing this. Thank you so much.

Can a periosteum reaction/swelling occur? I had my surgery a week ago and I have a hard, large lump on my jaw bone that my surgeon has called "periosteum reaction". Have you ever heard of or witnessed this?
