Will it Run? Ebay Purchase N Scale Athearn SD70 EMD Demo turned Lease unit. Trains with Shane Ep82

Another impulse buy but not entirely. You guys know that I love demonstrators. Especially EMD units. And to a lesser extent lease units that were once demonstrators. Couple that with me not having had, to my recollection, an Athearn N scale unit on the channel before made this the perfect storm of impulse buying, lol.

I have like seven Athearn HO loco’s three of which are Genesis DCC sound! They all run great even the old blue box units.

The first locomotive I ever got running years ago was an old Athearn Blue box HO scale that I bought off of eBay. I love those things. I have a few of the RTR's, and a few older ones with sound but I don't remember if I have any Genesis locomotives or not.

i love mine. fair warning if you ever want to put a decoder in it. it takes the decoder for a kato sd40-2 but you have to de-solder the motor tabs off the decoder and use wire down to the motor contacts. the shell wont clear the tabs.

I don't think this one is destined for a decoder just yet. If it ever gets one i'll likely have it professionally installed.

What's best method to getting the shell off?
- Do ya have to take couplers off?
- Does the Kato "drop end of shell on edge of case" trick work?
