I think they tried to make the new model look more human and less like a video game character. If you compare his other models (from the first yakuza up until kiwami) they pretty much all looked inhuman and a bit too "animated", giving off uncanny valley vibes, like his kenzan model. I always thought it was really scary for some reason. (Sorry if i made any mistakes i'm still learning english!)
In the older games, his model is built from scratch. So he definitely had unrealistic proportions. 5 is when he started looking somewhat normal. Then in 0 they mo capped his voice actors face and have been doing it ever since. Even his body in 3, 4 and 5 were weird looking. His shoulders were broader and his clothes looked like he was 1 size too big
@Magnus Malo the voice actor didnt mo capture face for kiryu. In 0 is just an updated model that looks younger. His face does look amazing in that game though but is still fictional much like nishiki, kashiwagi, majima etc.
