That's very hard to say. Is your other turf growing well and establishing itself? how well established is the orchardgrass? Orchardgrass is a cool season grass, so maybe your other turf will do better as summer approaches. As it warms establishing a new lawn from seed will be tougher.

@@GreenShoots my other turf is alright, some green but I have to put down a lot of seed because of bare spots, but my lawn is hard so I have to treat my soil soon before I lay grass seed. With the straw still being on the ground I’m just afraid it’s still going to produce orchard grass until I get it out the lawn. Yes I agree it will tougher. I really don’t wont to do that. I also live in cool season climate when I lay my grass seed it’s going to tall fescue with some blue in it.. I’m in Indiana

Would you recommend a similar treatment for quackgrass in a lawn? I would like to know which application method and timing will reach out as far as possible into the rhizome. Sounds like autumn would be best?

With quackgrass growing in desirable turf, I would use whatever method of application leads to the least amount of damage to desirable grasses. You could do cut stem. If you can, apply at the collar. For perennial grasses like quackgrass, the best time is generally fall, but you may have some success with earlier applications.
