How To Remove Weeds OR Grasses Weed Killers DO NOT TOUCH!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- Do you have a weed or grass in your lawn that is isn’t taken out by normal weed killers? You have tried regular blanket methods, but they are not working? Sometimes the specific weed is close enough to our regular grass (cool season lawn with clumping fescue) that nothing will kill the weed, that will not kill our grass, so we can’t blanket cover it. This is where glyphosate comes into play. It’s commonly known as round up, it is a complete kill product. So we have to be careful in what it touches and drys on.

Any hard to kill, or not touched by herbicides is the reason to do this….. sometimes the HUMBLE BRAG OF … my lawn is better then yours is worth a little judgmental look… 😘

I'm glad you confirmed it.

This works with weeds growing in your bushes as well. Painting the Underside of the leaf works better than the waxy top of the leaf. Be careful not to touch the stuff you want to keep

Very interesting! Reminds me of the little Asian lady that I used to live beside...she trimmed her lawn with scissors ...very small lawn lol
Sometimes you have to do the fanatical things to have something pristine. 🤪
This is awesome! I actually did this just yesterday on a patch of undesirable grasses in my lawn. I diluted the product though and then stuck the leftovers in my spray tank for a larger spray job I was planning. Your presentation was very well done!
It’s a powerful tool for sure and a great spot treatment to get rid of har to kill or on killable items in your lawn! Thanks!
The grasses removal is clutch to not killing the good but removing our the bad
@@TheGreenerLawn agreed, id only add to your video that the process is tedious with an emphasis on tedious LOL - I worked on probably only a small fraction of the area I wanted to hit before I tired enough to call it quits. I'm just hoping enough of the underground system is connected enough to kill the whole patch. I'm working up a vid on my project so I'll make sure to reference yours as validation for the technique!

I can't thank you enough for this!!! I've been battling weeds in my neglected lawn for two seasons now, I got it mostly under control and this is going to be my new secret weapon for anything that survived my treatments. I didn't like the idea of using glyphosate out of a sprayer but now knowing I can just paint with it I absolutely love it!
Let me know how it’s going! I’d love updates!
i do like your channel, however i cant help but think it took you longer to brush on roundup instead of just pulling that weed.
@@valleygirl670 if you pull bind weed / morning glory it will create 3 off shoots, it’s up to a 20ft vine under ground and as it breaks from pulling, it just creates more from the same vine. Using glyphosate, will kill the whole vine as its systemic. A good weed killer only travel 3-8’ of the vine. That’s the reason you wouldn’t attack with a pull on this specific weed. Thank you for digging the channel and inquiring to find out why I chose a method over another, I love the inquisitive nature! 🫶🏻
Great tips. going to give this a go. Killz all 365 kept my stone park strips clear last year.
Yup you know the power it has! Just be careful if you plan to seed, as you saw, it will block it!

Been my go to way of getting rid of hard to kill weeds in lawns for a few years, I figured I’d share lol! It works well!
In 2004 I cut down 4 Aspens. One i cut them down, they sent shoots out everywhere! I painted glyphosate on all the shoots. It worked and they didn't come back.
Solid use! Aspens are beautiful, but a pain
@@TheGreenerLawn they were planted too close to the house and were hitting the gutters when the wind would blow. Now sure what that previous owner was doing.
@@lazylearner967 people look at today, vs 5 years…. Gotta do that when landscaping.
Thanks for the video. I’m about to be out in my front yard for quite a while lol.
I have a ton of quack grass throughout the front. Wish me luck 🤞
Just stay on it! It will be better over time, with a little dedication. The awesome thing about using glyphosate against quackgrass, glyphosate is a systemic killer, meaning that it kills the whole plant, and quackgrass is rhizomatous meaning that they’re attached to various plants underneath the soil. So painting, one or two of those in a series could kill more than what you painted.
Let me know how it turns out in 14 days!
I prefer to have a diverse lawn with plenty of plants that most would consider "weeds" because 1.) They are edible and medicinal, and 2.) they are really great at naturally improving the quality of the soil over time, however, even I have my limits. I'm doing this on the creeping bell flowers that have taken over, thanks to a neighbor who lets them bloom in their yard. I might try it on some creeping charlie as well.
And that’s your right to choose what you have as your yard! No problems at all.
I like this idea!
This has been a handy tool for me for years!
Its good to see you have both ears 🤣

Last Aussie 😁. Great advice Jeremy. 😎
Lol… does this say what I think or does? LAST? EVEN IF TRUE… your never last you’re first pal!
Ever tried this with quack grass? That’s the most pesky weed I have
Yup and it works! (Glyphaste kills anything lol).
I literally just tired thing a week ago! I need to reapply or wait to tell we get more heat here in Utah
+Kaleb Taylor it can take up to 20 days, according to the label, to see results. I usually see quick results in 80 plus degree days…. These 70ies we have gotten will help it, but believe me if you applied it, it dried 24 hours and you didn’t mow for 3 days, it will die in time. Or current lack of water can slow it down as the plants are going dormant vs actively growing allowing the product to spread though the plant. Be patient and reapply to stuff that isn’t flipping 2-3 weeks. It works, just gotta have patience.
Always amazing content Jeremy ❤️
Awe, thanks! I appreciate it! 💚
Thanks for the tip Jeremy, I was looking for something like this. I remember that Pete from GCI also used another method but can't find his video. I have tried to pull the clumping fescue I have but seems not working fine.
Too much after work, if leveling with dirt, then seeing or sodding. When you can paint just the fescue blades , kill back that plant and allow our grass to fill naturally with no soil/nutrient change.
like this technique , maybe will try it on the POA . Thanks
Absolutely works on annua or triv like a beast!
@@TheGreenerLawn 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
What kind of plastic is that container made of?
My little oz cup I was carrying around? It’s a herbicide measuring cup by fertilome amzn.to/46ICPQG I don’t see a material.
Might have to try this with my poa triv
It works! Bath the seeds as you cut before it dies
Two questions, 1) after I apply this to a large patch of clumping fescue that is within my lawn, can I mow/mulch over this patch or am I to go around it? 2) how soon after applying can I dig it out and how deep do I have to dig out the clump and its roots to reseed? TIA
1 - 24 hours before mowing, and you can mow it. Afters it’s dry it’s didn’t leach and it will not kill surrounding grasses.
2- best it let it have 3 days, as it is systemic and will go through the whole plant killing anything you don’t dig.
But I used this method to paint it out and let it dry over time (month or so of die and slow mowing removal) so I don’t have to dig and replace dirt so there isn’t different nutrient load or color difference in my turf. If you have a rhyzome or stolen grass type and you don’t paint it on these in these surrounding areas if tou keep good grass wirhin 6” it can fill it’s self in with time. If patches are bigger then 6” it’s good to seed and you can do that with the grass in-place (if you want) .
Now what your doing, nothing wrong with it, but fill drift if you can take from your property so there isn’t any differences in nutients, that’s the best play).
Im so glad i found this. I have bind weed choking out my hedges for years. Do you just use glyphosate concentrate product like round up?
It is what round up is, glyphosate
Great video. What a great idea.
Thank you! It works SOO well!
Good thanks
Thank you for sharing 😊
Glad to help
Thank you.
💯
curious if this method would work on wild plum tree offshoots? Don't mind the main plum tree, but have learned they form thickets. If I cut it low to the ground, then apply the brush killer, will it only kill the offshoot? The offshoots have decided to make a thicket right where I planted my daffodils! Thanks for any advice!!
Any roots it’s attached to, it will kill… so if there’s a mother tree, it will kill it as well…. Or damage it as the Kesey. If they are from seeds, yup it will knock it out.
Using a concentrate in that manner is risky. Even though it "dries" if it gets wet soon after there's a decent sized risk of the top layer rewetting and moving off target. Dilute it to about the proper amount and you can still paint it if that's how you want to use it. 20 year glyphosate user.
If you feel safer then with concentrate, I did talk about dilutions it there. Stay within your comfort zone when using any products. , glyphosate has efficacy at minimal dilutions. So use it as you see fit staying with in the recommended rates. Not risky at all, clients and folks have used this method for years even before me. But if you choose dilution, there isn’t any problem here. What is glyphosate known for? It’s non leaching properties…… right? Straight from label “Product Description: This product is a postemergent, systemic herbicide with no residual soil activity.” I have a sneaking suspicion this statement is the exact reason you use it as a farmer? No residual activity in soil? If it gets wet wether it’s concentrate like this vs dilution, with in 24 hours (as stated on label) you run the same risk? Right?
If you feel comfortable with dilutions feel free, but if you follow this you will be just as safe. You have to avoid moisture for 24 hours….. either way.
Thanks for this informative video! I purchased via your Amazon link. However, the liquid is clear not yellow like yours. Did I get the wrong thing? I'm hoping this nukes my quack grass, blackberries, and ivy. All are terrible noxious weeds.
Nope, I just had the one with PreEmergent in it. The one I recommend for folks doesn’t, as you don’t need it for this purpose. You got the right one 100!
Love your technique. Thanks so much. Do you have any solution for torpedo grass?

I just did this today with some sort of really obnoxious grassy weed coming up in my newly sodded back yard (KBG and TTTF blend), except I skipped the paint brush and just used a latex-gloved hand. Ticks me off I have an instant weed problem with professionally laid sod. I wish I knew exactly what the weed is, but it seems to be something pretty nasty and rhizomatous. Pulling it was doing absolutely nothing - it comes right back very quickly. Hopefully this works.
Mind emailing me pics of the weed pulled out on a light surface? JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com
@The Greener Lawn I'll definitely do that. Yesterday I pulled all of it up though, and I did take a few pics, so hopefully they are good enough to ID. If the pics aren't good, I'll have to wait a few days til it grows back. I'm sure it will despite the little glyphosate treatment. From what I could research, the most likely culprit appears to be quackgrass, but it doesn't appear to have those "clasping auricles". Thanks, Jeremy.

I've been spraying roundup on the ivy vine that sprouts up everywhere. It's killing the leaves but then another pops up in it's place. How do I get rid of the demon underground spreading that stuff to the middle of the yard and every random place?
Consistency. Gotta block then seeds in the fall with a pre emergent and agin in spring. Then just bing constant. Your killing that whole vibe every time with round up but they are persistent. Keep on it and block new in’s from germinating
Ideal weather conditions?
Somthing that will let it dry on your weeds for 6-24 hours before getting wet.
Can you put this on Dallas grass in your St.Augustine lawn.
Yes but what ever it touches “while wet”, it’s goin from kill. So if you just get it on the Dallas grass and it dries, it will kill the Dallas Grass.
Will it work on Poison Ivy which keeps spreading in between some arborvitae trees i have thru rhizomes. Also does it work on English Ivy?
Glyphosate will kill anything it touches in right concentrations. Make sure to paint just the vie and once dry will not leach to what ever your trying to save around it.
It will Do both!
What do you recommend for a yard with 100s of field bindweed plants?

@@jaystubbs1355 if I were you, I would pick tzone, and be consistent with it as you see new bind weed. it’s not going to kill the full 20 foot vine the first time but each time it should kill about 8 feet of it so if you’re consistent, you could kill the whole plant. You definitely will see quite a few less after using it each time. www.amazon.com/dp/B00NWSIHCK/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_PX3RM1WX3A5Z7NQCF9TA?linkCode=ml2&tag=thegreenerlawn-20

I do this too. That's not bindweed. I have bindweed it's vines that shoot straight up and have arrow shaped leaves. It's the WORST. All the roots are huge and bright white, and break really easily - any broken pieces can sprout new plants. My garden is riddled with it.

2nd?
True
I am using the same product as you but mine is clear liquid with yellow tint. Did you add anything to yours so it’s easier to see how much has been applied? TIA.
Mine isn’t the regular glyphosate, it has prodiamine in it for the controlled release (what I had on hand, not really needed). Glyphosate is a systemic killer it doesn’t take much to kill the plant. If you have a plant with 20 branches you only need to paint like 3-4 of them, it will the the plant off this. It doesn’t take much.
You can add a dye to it if you like. I do that often to see what I've already sprayed.
@@MightySapphire not really needed for the painting. But is decent for sprays ✌️ I don’t do it cause I turn blue and leave blue footprints everywhere 🫣🫣🫣
Will this work on bamboo that is invading my yard?
Yes! For glyphosate to be effective, the bamboo must be mowed or chopped and allowed to regrow until the new leaves expand. A 5% solution of glyphosate should be applied to the newly expanded leaves.
Do you have any tips or advice on killing Lily of the valley with this method? Thanks!
You want to get rid of these? If so, just paint the glyphosate in. Let it dry for 6 hours up to 24 hours before any moisture hits it and you will have dead plants in just over a week.
@@TheGreenerLawn Thanks for your reply! I see you have recommended 41% concentrated Glyphosate. Should I dilute it with water or directly paint onto the plant? Also have a question on what to do after. Should I still dig out the dead root underneath the soil? Thanks a lot
@@MrJl677 no need to dilute, but it will not hurt it if you do. The stronger concentration helps getting the small paint spots (as you only have to paint a few places not every blade)into the plant. There is no harm either way. You can remove it at the ground and let the roots naturally dieback adding to organic material in your soil. But it’s your call.
Glad to Help any time!
