Is Rice Healthy | White Rice or Brown Rice? is a comprehensive guide to making the best choice when it comes to eating rice.
Is rice healthy or not is a common question that people ask and honestly it's a pretty convoluted answer because it really depends. When we look at rice it is a food that people consume in high amounts. Certain countries like China are the biggest consumers of rice and have been eating rice at a high level for thousands of years.
Is brown rice healthier than white rice is a topic that we have to explore further to find the true answer. White rice is stripped of its nutrients and as a results white rice is almost nutritionally useless. An interesting thing happens though with white rice. The strip the bran from it but when doing so they also strip the high arsenic content that is found in brown rice.
White rice vs brown rice is hard to understand. On one hand the brown rice is more nutrient dense but on the other, brown rice has all the arsenic making it toxic to consume. Arsenic has an affinity for the bran on d because the brown rice has the bran it ultimately becomes a toxic rice full of arsenic.
So when you ask is rice unhealthy it depends. White rice is unhealthy because it is a high glycemic carb without any nutritional value, but then you have brown rice which is nutrient dense but contains arsenic. So the question becomes what should you do? It is best to use an organic brown rice that is sprouted or germinated. This will yield you the best results for your health.
So when you ask is brown rice healthy, it is ultimately the healthier of the two. But is only healthy if you use sprouted organic and use proper methods for cooking it. You don't want to use any other methods that don't offer you great results when it comes to eating rice.
The best rice to eat is brown rice that is sprouted and organic. If you cant find it at your local grocery stores I included a link down below as to where you can find good quality rice that offer the best results for improving your health. It is not loaded with arsenic and the good news is that according to ancient Chinese culture, it is considered a food that actually improves your energy system in your body.

Exactly, nothing that is organic, in it is purest form is dangerous or unhealthy when eating in moderation!
I eat everything I like but in moderation, rice is once a month for me, same with potatoes, parsnips, Swede, sweet potatoes, arrowroot, I eat meat once a week, fish twice..... and all vegetables once a week apart from avocado that I eat everyday. This has been for almost 30yrs and I have only worn Size 4/6US all my adult life.
Processed food and excessive eating is the problem. Half cup uncooked rice is more than enough for and average person less than 150lb with a bowl of vegetables.

You're right. Asians eat rice almost everyday. I think they stay healthy and love longer because of how they eat it and how they combine it with other foods. An Asian will basically have a literally hand full bowl of rice with a other little hand full bowls of assorted veggies and very little fish or beef.
However, there are others who do eat a lot more making it totally unhealthy

Is it true that if you cook white rice and put it in the fridge for 12 hours before consuming, this process modifies it at a molecular level and greatly diminishes its glycemic index? It's said that one can actually heat it up after that to eat it, but the benefit is there. I haven't eaten rice, or any carbs for that matter, in more than 6 months anyway. But I was curious.

Thank you, Dr. Zyrowski, for a very informative topic. I think this is a case-to-case basis. If you are struggling insulin resistance--avoiding rice is needed. If you are already over weight, sedentary and no exercise routine whatsoever. And yes, rice is going to cause health problems in the future. I came from from a generation of family who have rice as staple meal on their table. But as for me, my own individual approach to it. I have cut down dramatically going on many years now. I used it as sprinkle on my meal if I am going to have 75% protein (weight/strength training) and rest is vegetables. I can say, I am in good shape now, better than I did in my 30s. And much more stronger.

You can still lose weight without keto, which means enjoying potatoes, rice etc. I have done it. Honestly, the amount of weight you can lose on keto vs limited calorie diet is negligible tbh. I have lost 2-3lbs in a week on a diet of 200g of rice, chicken, beef, steak, eggs, bacon and some vegetables per day. Keto is quite restrictive tbh. Just workout hard, fast for 16-18 hours and limit your caloric intake. Only cut out a few carbs, but one jacket potato or a bowl of rice isn't going to pile on weight, it's the "occasional" biscuits, crisps, fries, burger, pie, chocolate bar etc that will. There is no quick fix to fat loss. It takes months to years depending on how much you gotta lose. I have been on a non-keto diet for the past month and I've lost 15lbs.

  • @torkjoy1

Rice has starches, so to reduce the calories and glycemic index you cook the rice then refrigerate it for 12 hrs or more.
What this does, about 1/2 of the carbohydrates become long chain carbs that we cannot digest, so they pass to the large intestine as prebiotics for our prebiotics (double benefit)
