  • Mike’s unbridled rage manifests itself this episode as he and Alex tackle every Velvet Underground album one by one. If that doesn’t sound intriguing, the two go off on a whole tangent about Trainspotting during the episode. Man, what a great movie.

    Well, they are not about song structure, they are all about noise and minimalism, about organized chaos. They invented that in rock music, their own loose song structure and that's what influenced Bowir, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Stereolab, punk, post punk, indie, noise rock, even U2 and the Stones, lots of stuff. First 3 albums are classics, groundbreaking and different from each other, the sing of a great band. The one I don't like (except for 3 great songs) is Loaded, that is the album that sounds generic, as any other album of its time. So this guy gets it all backwards but I guess that was the intention and idea of the Velvet Underground in the first place, to piss off someone with that type of mentality.

    I enjoyed this episode, and I'm a fan of The Velvet Underground. The people in the comment section need to lighten up. The music press has been praising VU for over 50 years now, so it's interesting hearing a different take every once in a while.

    I'll never understand why even VU fans don't like Run Run Run. Best song on the album. Super catchy.

    Jesus, some people in the comments need to lighten up. This is just two guys giving their honest opinion on music. Stop treating artists like they're some sacred thing that must be revered. You can still enjoy the music you like even after listening to these people's takes.

    I enjoy these episodes but would ask you to look at some bands from a rock history perspective. You might not like these albums but you can't deny their influence. The Velvets pretty much invented alternative rock. Someone once said that the first LP only sold a thousand albums or so but everyone who bought a copy went off to start a band.

    Your ranting of the underground gets boring. I disagree with your view on the band, but if you just leave that to rest and try to judge or evaluate without emotion, it would make for a better podcast episode. Maybe in the future just only do bands you can be constructive about?

      I agree. Criticism is supposed to be objective.

    Why is Lou Reed on Rolling Stone's 200 Greatest Singers of all time?

    • @LokiTricksterG
      @LokiTricksterG 6 місяців тому

      Because Rolling Stone sucks? Mike Patton, Nick Cave, Scott Walker, and Tom Waits aren't even on that list for F's sake. I would hardly use Rolling Stone as an authority on anything.

    I lost interest in this episode after 4 minutes. Go and do MEATLOAF review. If you don't like THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, maybee you should listen to some other type of music, hip hop or classical music. But you would probablly find a flaw in Beethoven's 9th Symphony. SOUNDGARDEN is better then LOU REED? At least, LOU invented his style while Soundgarden stole from Black Sabbath and Zeppelin. What a boring band

    Velvet Underground is the most overrated band of all time.

    Quite possibly the worst music podcast on the internet today. These numbskulls pompously declare what they think “sucks” and what “rules” but are too inarticulate and uninformed to be able to tell you why. They make Beavis and Butthead seem sophisticated and discerning in comparison. If you came here to complain about this episode, check out the podcast No Dogs In Space, one of the best music podcasts out there. They just started a five-part series on the Velvet Underground to kick off their second season. Well-researched, insightful, and entertaining. Everything this inept, irritating, amateurish garbage show is not.

      Thanks for that info! I’m going to look for that podcast, now! Yeah..I started becoming very suspect of these 2 ding-dong’s “critiques” on bands and genres that they were obviously far too in over their heads to adequately give any sort of valid or valuable feedback on, when I watched a couple of their punk band/album “reviews”. What a couple of tossers.
