- This Ram 2500HD with the 6.7litre Cummins has no speedometer or exhaust brake operation. The Brake and ABS warning lights are on and there is no communication with the ABS module. Multiple U codes for loss of communication with the ABS controller. Fuse 30 15 amp blows as soon as its installed.
This video came out a year ago and I just found it. The information he passed along was great and I just used it to repair my son's truck. The pink wire with the light green tracer that runs between the fuse box and the ABS module was the culprit. Thanks man, I appreciate the video.
Wow, thank you for making that video. My speedometer works now after I put back the fuse to number 30. I was using the spare for a cigarette 12v port that blown. The speedometer was working after that but then just stop working all of a sudden for no reason so I came to this video because I replaced the rear ABS speed sensor and still had the same problem then plugged in the new fuse and it worked thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this video! My truck had the same symptoms as this one and it turned out the pin for the power on the abs module plug was loose and causing it to not get power. I fixed that and found one of the green wires was also loose. Now I have most of my functionality back but the ABS light is still on for some reason. I’ll get that sorted at some point but it’s way better than having no speedometer, reverse lights, abs, cruise or exhaust brake like it did before. Huge improvement!
Thank you for taking the time to post this video and the detailed length of showing us the scanner tool screens. I bought aftermarket Gen 4 side mirrors for my 06 and added the electrical fold-in/out option. I thought fuse location 30 was a spare because that is what the inside fuse box cover said, I didn't install the fuse for the spare slot, just the fuse for the add-on for the mirrors, and at the time installed a banks exhaust brake and was going down the hole of going over that system again. I had code U0121 lost communication with ABS, installed the fuse for the spare slot and the brake and ABS light went away, cleared codes and everything is good now. Thanks for your help.
Glas it helped you out.
Thank you so much for putting this out! I was able to use it as a guide to track the electrical issue and learned how to make this type of repair which is amazing. My dodge is the same year with a different configuration and because you were “thinking out loud” I was able to understand how the circuits work and how to test for each thing as well as use the diagrams.
All that is to say that you saved my truck from being scrapped because I was about to give up on tracking down the wiring issues with it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Glad it helped you
Incredible that this happens often enough for a video to have this many views! Thanks man! Now to locate the abs sensor that is done.
Man thank you!! you saved me about $800!!! Dodge dealership was telling me it was the break control module and that I had to buy a new one. Luckily they were out of stock everywhere so I had to wait till mid May for them to have one. it's been 3 months that I had no reverse lights, speedometer not working, ABS/brake light and check engine light on!!
Was that same fuse burning as well. Were you able to find the short?
I really appreciate this video you made, it greatly assisted me in the repairs of the speedometer not working as well as the other related issues.
I'm glad it helped you out
Dam good job of figuring it out. My 2002 ram 4.7 had a jumpy speedo. I changed the sensor on top of the diff. Then the speedo worked for a hot second and went dead. Now it only works when it rains. My abs and brake light are on as well. Guess I might try and look for a wire issue like this was.
Thank you. That was super helpful locating my problem. 👍
This just saved me I was on day 3 trying to figure out WTH was wrong
Glad it helped you.
Thanks for the video. Not sure this is the problem but I would imagine. Suddenly after an ice storm I got:
-Abs, esp bas, traction, ebrake lights on
-speedo worked off and on like a hiccup for a day now nothing. At the same time i lost speedo, I lost gps locating on my navigation and service 4x4 came on.
- No comms to abs module
2010 Ram 1500
Did this fix your problem?
@mikeschneider634 yes it did.
That trucks lift pump is wired incorrectly. It’s supposed to run for 5-12 seconds with key on to prime then shut off.
That makes sense. There is no need for it to be running if the truck is not running.
Most of the time the large air dog or fass pumps are installed like that.
I'm having the same problems. Could this work the same for an 03 cummins? Also would this cause shift problems at WOT? Thanks!
interesting video
easy temporary for door ding is close the door latch till you need to actually close the door.
I ‘m wondering about the constant lift pump and the fuel sensor com problem. My guess is they’re related and since we all now know fuse 30 wasn’t just a spare my guess is somewhere there’s still a hidden short or someone created one with the new aftermarket lift pump.
I I think I would’ve traced the lift pump line or just disconnected it to see if it stopped the short etc.
Remember the old days when vehicles had alot less wires and worked just fine?
Yes for sure. Things are definitely getting out of hand.
Did you ever fix the actual wire or just left that auxiliary wire in there ?
What a video! thank you Sir!
I love watching your videos. The way you diagnose electrical issues is efficient. You also sound like iron man. Anyways, is there some way to contact you? I'm having similar issues with my 2007 Dodge ram 1500.

sent you a return email.
@@PhillipBailey hi Phil, I have a 02 1500 4x4 4.7 but the abs pump isn't there. Is that the pump and module in one? I can't find any photos of how it suppose to look in the truck as well.
@@Cosm0_Official1 are you sure it has 4 wheel ABS? Some of those only had Rear Wheel ABS. Are there speed sensors on both front wheel bearings? If tge right front has no speed sensor then it only has rear ABS. The dealer should also be able to tell by the vin.
What are you using to show the diagrams? Reader?
I'm using an online subscription service from Identifix. They usually only cater to commercial customers. If you're looking for similar information try Alldatadiy.com
Anyone know if this works on a 2012?? I have the exact same issues and can’t figure it out, no one else with this year truck can help me out and I’ve checked the forms
What exactly is the problem?
@dannybeohm4282 2012 is different from this 08. A 12 has 3 power feeds, two Bat pos and one ignition as well as two grounds. The 12 also has 4 speed sensors as opposed to 3 on the earlier 08. If you have no communication with the ABS module confirm fuses J06 and J07 are good as well as fuse M37. Test the three power circuits at the ABS module A2 and A31 live all time and A32 ignition on. Grounds on A16 and A45.
HERE IS A NOVEL IDEA DISCONECT THE DAM LIFT PUMP!!!!!!.OMG
Nice video 👍👍👍🤝🏻🙏
how can you fix my I live in Nevada, North Las Vegas or recommend someone you trust
Best to ask around your area who other people trust. I don't know anyone there sorry.
Whats the problem with your truck
awsome
406,000 miles wow
That's actually kilometers. I'm in Canada eh... 252200 miles.
My 06 has the same problem but my fuse 30 is good
Does a scan tool talk to the ABS controller? If not you need to check the power feed at the controller and the grounds.
I’ve tried to find a diagram for the wiring to the abs module I get the u0121 code
@timothycarey4629 try Alldatadiy.com for diagrams. It's not free but quite reasonable imo.
Thanks I appreciate it hopefully it’s not the abs module that failed I’ll check the wiring before throwing parts at it
awsome
