I just bought a '99 V10 with 117k miles and mine has literally all of the exact same issues that you're dealing with now. You have been a lifesaver as I've been conducting the repairs, I'm looking forward to having her as an excellent hunting rig!
@@ProjectTimeGarage Here's hoping, the guy I bought it from had a K&N cold air intake installed and then haphazardly put the OEM assembly back on with parts missing, and so I'm trying to source parts to get it back to OEM specs.
My truck now has i think a cluster from a stick truck because when I go to start it the upshift indicator on the dash illuminates in the cluster,im also guessing that is why the truck has a low fuel light indicator that works even this truck doesn't have interior wood trim, overhead console with compass and outside temp readout display, pwr mirror and audio stereo steering wheel controls on the back of the steering wheel...
Those 2nd gen dodges are notorious for fuel sending unit failure. I lost count on how many of those i changed over the years. That cluster issue reminds me of having to solder the big green connectors on the old style international school bus clusters. All the gauges would constantly sweep when the connection is bad so a solder job would take care of that.
I have this same thing I just bought a 1998 Cummins and when I drive it just spikes or doesn’t at all on the speedometer reads rpm etc just not the actual speed
I’m going to say the speedometer itself within the cluster. The cruise control working after 35-ish means the speed sensor must still be reading correctly.
Interesting issue. Was the trip meter reset to "0"? Was the odometer advancing faster with the higher indicated speed? Are you an electrician by trade?
Strangely the trip meter and odometer were both behaving normally, the issue was evidently in the circuitry that drives the gauge itself. No, not an electrician - I'm in Information Technology.
Know what happens when you don't fix the dash when it starts acting up, well the right side of illuminated green lights, the bright indicator the low fuel light the right side turn signal indicator, the fuel and volt guage everything else just quits

That V10 was a really solid platform. Not many issues with the drivetrain at all. Should make a dependable rig.

My 96 just did this today😅 I will follow your repair.
Cool, hope it works out.
Great video! Have you ever done rockers and cab corners before? I’d love to learn how to do that sometime! My truck needs it done badly!
I have not - I'm not the worlds best welder.

Yep, probably a stick version. Does it have the PRND21 on it?
Awesome work!
Thanks!!

Yep - I replaced the fuel pump in this one a couple of weeks ago - Sending unit has already failed on the new pump....

Common issue on these is the speed sensor on the rearend. May wanna check that

Nailed it!! Haha
Yep, I figured you would come up with the answer pretty qucikly.
@@ProjectTimeGarage I guess I have owned one or two of these 😅

Thank you nice video!!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Mine runs 15mph high at any speed, even when I’m not moving. It reads zero when key is off. Thoughts?
Gotta be the speed sensor.
With this issue you can far faster much more 60mph ? My speedometer when i ride 60-65 is on the end and car will not faster
Hmm, strange.

Ah, good to know.
Speed servo
Solder joint on back of speedo unit.
1st to say nice dodge
Thanks 👍
My 94 2500 is having the same issue except its reading slow, not fast kike yours.
May be the same problem
