You’re quite far off. $2.13/hr is the minimum that federal law allows restaurant wait staff to be paid if they are making enough in tips to reach the $7.25/hr federal minimum wage. However, many states and localities have their own minimum wage laws that guarantee wait staff substantially more than the federal minimum wage. For example, wait staff in California make at least $16/hr plus any tips they receive, while many counties and cities in Northern and Southern California raise that minimum even higher so that some wait staff in the Bay Area, for example, make a bit more than $18/hr plus any tips. The minimum wage for wait staff in Seattle is about the same. There are several states and localities within those states where wait staff are only guaranteed the federal minimum, but even in those locations it is unusual for the wait staff to receive and report so little in tips that their employer has to make up the difference so that they receive $7.25/hr.

Taco Bell is the original American fast food taco! Changed the fast food game and brought tacos to middle America, learn some history and show some respect.
Some cultural context regarding tipping: I 100% agree that tips should not be mandatory/expected, but unfortunately because tipping has become so normalized in the US, employers will often use it as rationale for paying food service workers the bare minimum. Basically, it's the mindset of "Well, why should we raise their pay if they're just going to get tips?" So because of this, restaurant workers often end up in a situation where they are dependent on tips to earn a living wage. Without tips, many of them would likely just quit and there would barely be any competent restaurant workers left. It's a really screwed up and flawed system that we kinda just accept as normal the US.. I truly hope it changes, the whole thing needs a reset.
The greatness of this movie is, it's almost all dialogue! Very few sets, almost zero action. And lots of dialogue for multiple characters. This is tough to do!
exactly, l think every aspiring screenwriter or director should watch films like this one or "12 angry men". no budget, no cgi bullshit. just a great script and phenomenal actors.
Hey Cutie! Great video as always, its like hanging out with an old friend. There are many fun facts about this movie. My favorite is the cop in the trunk was Mr Blonds friend in real life. He got him the part as the cop. While filming the actor playing Mr Blond went thru a drive thru with his cop friend in the trunk (making sure to hit pot holes and speed bumps along the way) and got that drink to bring to the scene. It wasnt planned out in the script like that. But Quentin left it in.
I watched the shooting scene in slow motion on VHS back when it came out. 'The Thing' shoots the cop first, Harvey shoots 'The Thing', Penn shoots Harvey, Harvey still has time to shoot Penn...oh, and Buscemi gets shot outside.
Definitely my favorite of many Tarantino favorites. I love how skeletal and efficient the whole film is. Also, I love that it's ultimately a film about method acting. The undercover cop/actor analogy is made quite clear, but also Tim Roth is the only actor in the movie with a British accent that he's changed to be an American accent. It's really a brilliant first outing for Tarantino.
Everyone EXCEPT Mr. Pink died in the failed heist. It's amazing drama/thriller and disaster of a mob heist that we never actually see, just the aftermath of it. It's genius.
Lawrence Tierney as Joe was a force to be reckoned with.... "Hey! NOBODY'S trading with ANYBODY. This ain't a goddamn, f#%king city council meeting... Now what's it gonna be, Mr. Pink?" 😆
According to Tarantino in Joe Bob Brigg's book "Profoundly Disturbing: Shocking Movies That Changed History", when he Tarantino and his editor (forget his name) were editing, they realized that Chris Penn's (Nice Guy Eddie) blood squib exploded before it was supposed to and he went ahead and dropped as if shot, you can see that nobody is aiming at Nice Guy Eddie. Tarantino made the decision to leave it in, saying that fans/viewers will be taking about it forever and he was right.
Yeah, I don't even know how that is so debated. There's a WHOLE FREAKING SCENE right after all the shooting with 2 guys who were shot STILL ALIVE. Why couldn't any of them shoot Eddie after they've been shot???
The script is great and the whole thing has some great tension to it, and the way it reveals information is very well done. I agree its not Tarantino's best movie, but its huge impact definitely skyrocketed his career.
Unfortunately in America the government will tax a waitress based upon her sales, whether she gets tipped or not. So technically if someone doesn’t tip her at all, she loses money by getting taxed on money she never made. Definitely not the customers fault but unfortunate nonetheless.
What they don't quite explain about tipping in the opening scene is that in the U.S., restaurants can pay below the usual minimum wage, and that's allowed specifically because of tipping. Tips paid by customers are basically the other part of the wait staff's wage, alongside what the restaurant pays. Tips aren't extra. They are an essential part of the wage. Yes, it's voluntary. But if you don't tip, or under-tip, it's like docking their pay. Plus, wait staff split tips with other staff, like the kitchen staff. So if you punish the waitress because you didn't like how she treated you, you're also penalizing the dish washers. If you were designing the system today, you'd just have restaurants pay the full wage and make tipping truly an extra for superb service. But opting out of tipping by yourself doesn't help make the system more just. Of course this is in the U.S. and, I believe, in Canada. In other countries I suspect tipping really is more of an optional thing.
As a quick aside to this. Not all restaurants split tips. I've been in the service industry for around 40 years. Very few of the places I worked at shared tips with the kitchen staff. We also got paid a better wage. I believe the whole point of paying the waitstaff less and forcing them to depend on tips, was to try to get them to treat the customers the best they could, because then they would make more money.
@@krautgazer I agree wholeheartedly. Even worse though, is that people are trying to get it changed to a more livable wage and Americans are refusing because they don't believe service people should make that much. I keep hearing "well, they should go out and get a REAL job if they want better wages".
It's funny how they set up Mr Orange's gangster story as "you have to remember every tiny detail" yet when Eddy tells his story in the car and Mr Orange asks him for details he's just like "tf do I know?" xD If Eddy hadn't been introduced yet it would make you think he's a rat too. Also if you like heist movies you should check out The Sting, super oldschool and fun.
Good one, Biss! I think this was the first Quentin movie I ever saw? It was very unique when it came out. I had fun rewatching this one with you. Thanks for sharing it. 🙂
NICE!!! GREAT MOVIE!! 😊😂 Everytime I've heard "Stuck in the Middle With You" by Stealer's Wheel, I can only think of Michael Madsen with a straight razor! 😂🤣😂🤣
You could be the first to react to Mr. Roberts which, like Casablanca, 12 Angry Men, and Harvey, is based on a play. Two of the leads (Fonda and Lemon) reprise the rolls the originated on Broadway. No one has reacted to it on YT. You liked 12 Angry Men and I think you will like the others on the list as well.
Biss, I've got to disagree, you should always tip. You never know what kind of shitty day the server is having, shitty boss, customers or just a bad day. They shouldn't be penalized for this. But, the fast food workers not getting a tip is a good point though In the US they get at least Federal minimum wage but restaurant servers do not depending on State laws. With that said we need to get you some fries and pay the tip 🍟
I've always thought pulp fiction was Quentin's homage to a couple of early Stanley Kubrick films, Dr strangelove, and The Killing! And a movie he named his production company after, A Band Apart. So I'm writing this to give u some pre pro tips, leading up to pulp fiction, so it's more about Quentin and his earlier credits, particularly reservoir Dogs! Before this, Tarantino had writing creds for Dusk til Dawn with George Clooney and True Romance! Which is a movie about himself being a video store clerk, but turning Hollywood fantasy! True Romance is action packed, completely unreal, and totally star studded! He also did co writing/directing with Robert Rodriguez on The Mariachi , with Antonio Banderas and Death proof, with Kurt Russell!! He often has dialogue heavy movies, and long segments in them, where actors seem to be out of character, and having a discussion in various life circumstances, like the breakfast scene here, or in reservoir Dogs, or the foot massage scene in Pulp Fiction here! Pro tips, Vic Vega from reservoir Dogs is Vince Vega's brother from pulp fiction! Eddie bunker as Mr Blue was a former Bank robber, who went to jail, and started writing crime stories, while in! Mr White put up 5 mil to get this movie made, so he could play Mr White! James Woods was up for either Mr White or Mr Pink roles, but his manager didn't give him the script. James fired him! Sam Jackson was supposed to play the role of the black dude undercover cop, but Tarantino said, wait im writing another part for you, which became Pulp Fiction! If u watch his movies, he uses the same actors over and over! Sam, harvey, Tim, and others, in several of his movies...Sam the most. This, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Hateful Eight, and a voice in Inglorious basterds. Nobody liked the Boss, most of the other actors wanted to beat his ass! He thought he was old school Hollywood royalty and above the other actors. Like several of his other movies, this is based on an old Japanese samurai story, about a group of samurai who get slaughtered in a revenge ploy. The few left realize, one of them is a traitor who tipped off a warlord. Also, search up, Reservoir Dogs posters....there are so many iconic shots from this movie, I have 4 posters as wall art! U may not like his language all the time, but in private moments, street level , homey folks, rednecks, the brothas on the corner, on the block, the crazy chicas....u know they be talkin to each other like this. The moral of this story? Always know the drugs u are about to take!😅 Also yes, Quentin has foot fetish! So in a way, Quentin lied...he daid he would only direct 10 movies. But if u add up movies he had a bit of writing or director time in, u have to add. True Romance, Death Proof, The Mariachi, and Dusk til Dawn. Pro tip....the OD shot scene, he has 2 board games on his table...life and operation! Since his 70s tv show, Welcome back Kotter, through every movie he did through the 2000s, Travolta always did a dance scene!
We have to get a taco. Not from garbage taco bell but from whatever slow cooked idea you can find on the interwebs. It's equivalent to German sausage. Lime in the coconut.
I had a girlfrind who was sp good at Call of suty that she could just use a knife. Her name was Eddie (short for Edwina). Her game name was Knife Guy Eddie... She trolled the shot out of people... I think there;s some vids on my channel... I miss her
Based on your watching this, pulp fiction, fight club, and snatch I think you would enjoy the movie "Revolver" its a great watch and has an awesome meta commentary. It is easily my favorite Guy Ritchie film, had good cast and is kinda a mind f. In my opinion its a tragically underappreciated film.
Tips for waitresses in the USA reflects the fact that they only get paid a bit over $2 an hour by their employers. No way to live on that. That is why we tip them 20% no matter what, unless they are mean and incompetent. In European system, they are paid a decent wage and don't rely on tips, so only tip as thanks for superior service.
@@nunyabizness5391yeah. But the minimum wage thing is calculated weekly, not daily. So, you can totally make less than minimum wage on any given day. You can come in on a slow day, get stiffed on one table, and you technically owe the restaurant money
They get paid more than 2 dollars "by their employer" if for some reason their tips don't get to minimum wage. I'm sure this is very rare, but it must happen or it wouldn't be the law. And I'll admit I didn't catch that in the original comment - I'd better work on my reading - but a lot of other people would think the same way and assume that means that sometimes wait staff is making less than minimum wage, which isn't true.
Almost everyone is paid weekly, if not every other week. They're not making less than minimum wage. Now there's definitely an argument that the minimum wage is too low, but that's a different issue.
Actually hes not okay, that is a gun shot wound in the gut...which is excrutiating and painful. Its a horrible way to die, so the actor Tim Roth is playing that sequence accurately. Terrific film! Love your stuff...plus you're super cute teehee🙊😊
Totally rethought my position on tipping after watching this movie the first time. Mr Pink has some very valid points. You have a mom & pop restaurant charging you a LOT more for their food, yet they pay their waitresses crap forcing them to need tips...while at chain restaurants where you don't tip, they sell food at ridiculously low prices (at least compared to non chain places) and yet they also pay their staff way way more than the mom & pop joint...the chains charge less and pay their staff more...tipping just makes no sense to me. Pay these people what they earn just like every other worker in this country and do away with the tip system. You want to put a jar out and let generous people throw money in...by all means, do it...but this notion that you are required to tip X%...fuck that, just charge more for your food and give your wait staff a percentage of the take...why the fuck should we have to pay for the food then pay for the staff in addition to the food...makes zero sense when you really think about it. Fix the system.
ok... there are a ton of things I want to comment on, but by far most of all.... do not EVER confuse Taco Bell for real tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc... FOR THE LOVE OF GOOOOOOOOOD!

More proof that Tarantino became a director/writer because he couldn't act for shit and, as a director/writer, he could cast his lousy acting into a movie. Larry (Mr. White) got off two rounds: one at Joe, the other at Eddie, Joe's kid. I was wondering about that, too.
If it hasn't been recommended already, a significant influence on this film is the original THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE from 1974 with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw; it also had a band of organized criminals who only referred to each other by color names. The remake with John Travolta and Denzel Washington is mediocre.

27:00 Taco Bell doesn't sell tacos. They sell a cheap copy of tacos.
18:38 Lost it when you started dancing with him.😂😂😂
Great pick. You'll like The Hateful Eight. 💀
Haha thanks, I reacted to hateful 8, should see be on the channel
@@BissFlix Aha you did. 😁
Then maybe Robert Rodriguez's "Desperado" 1995? 😉 😉 😉
Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching this
He must look dashing when he dies great line
Pink?" 😆
Joe shoots Orange. No kill.
White shoots Joe. Kill.
Eddie shoots White. No kill.
White shoots Eddie. Kill.
Also, Pink was arrested.
I always thought it was Pink who shot Eddie. 🤔
@@bradleybowles7979 30:01 you can clearly see White shoot Eddie
...pink was shot by the cops outside the building....everyone dead...
Yeah, I don't even know how that is so debated. There's a WHOLE FREAKING SCENE right after all the shooting with 2 guys who were shot STILL ALIVE. Why couldn't any of them shoot Eddie after they've been shot???
Biss! Ya gotta do True Romance! Written by Tarantino!Soooo good!
The conversation at the dinner, takes me back to when we were young. Silly stuffs but miss it though.
The script is great and the whole thing has some great tension to it, and the way it reveals information is very well done. I agree its not Tarantino's best movie, but its huge impact definitely skyrocketed his career.
21:05 I always laugh at that part also. I'm fucking dying here LOL
Hahaha
A damn good first film. Always nice to see the early works of the masters before they perfected their craft.
Thanks for watching
Unfortunately in America the government will tax a waitress based upon her sales, whether she gets tipped or not. So technically if someone doesn’t tip her at all, she loses money by getting taxed on money she never made. Definitely not the customers fault but unfortunate nonetheless.
Oh really?
5:20 Best moment. I will put on my smartphone as waking up ringtone. You're so funny!
Wonderful film and reaction. Thanks Biss. 😊😊❤❤
Another good heist movie is Inside Man 2006 ..all star cast and a good mystery to solve on how it went down..
Jesus, that's an absolutely crazy system. Not sure how that is not illegal. American law is completely bonkers sometimes.
@@krautgazer I agree wholeheartedly. Even worse though, is that people are trying to get it changed to a more livable wage and Americans are refusing because they don't believe service people should make that much. I keep hearing "well, they should go out and get a REAL job if they want better wages".
I always thought that Mr. Pink ended up being the waitor in pulp fiction.
Maybe after he got out of jail...
@happyslapsgiving5421 well I just figured it would be ironic that he ended up depending on people's tips to live.
True Romance is a great movie, Tarantino helped write it. I like both movies but I would rank True Romance over this one.
You can hear Mr. Pink being arrested outside. He didn't get away.
Haha right?
"Why am I Mr. Pink?"
I can't tell you why without youtube getting offended.
😂😂😂 nice try
Because you eat the poo poo!
In the Quentin Tarantino universe, Mr. Blonde (Vic Vega) is supposed to be the brother of Vincent Vega (played by John Travolta in Pulp Fiction).
"Sneetches get steetches" is about the cutest f'ed up thing I've heard
Steve Buscemi (Mr. Pink) is from my hometown of Valley Stream NY
7:55 . . . Wow . . . You're right . . . Never noticed that before . . .
Always know the drugs u are about to take!😅
Also yes, Quentin has foot fetish!
NIce reaction, Tarantino says that Eddie being shot by nobody was a mistake but he left it in so people would talk about it. heheeh
thank you, hahaha
Pink shot Larry from underneath the ramp when everyone was on edge and would move on sound.
Great reaction Biss! Just so you know biss... i shot Eddie! Haha lol thanks for sharing Biss❤
Smart to put the "dance number" at the start. Everyone would have just clicked to that part first anyway.
Damn im going out now, but at least I got something good to watch when im back :D
Reservoir Dogs was Tarantino's first and the one that put him in the spotlight, but Jackie Brown (1997) is by far his best...point blank and period.
And it isn’t even his…it’s based on an Elmore Leonard book.
We have to get a taco. Not from garbage taco bell but from whatever slow cooked idea you can find on the interwebs. It's equivalent to German sausage. Lime in the coconut.
Oh?
I had a girlfrind who was sp good at Call of suty that she could just use a knife. Her name was Eddie (short for Edwina). Her game name was Knife Guy Eddie... She trolled the shot out of people... I think there;s some vids on my channel...
I miss her
Based on your watching this, pulp fiction, fight club, and snatch I think you would enjoy the movie "Revolver" its a great watch and has an awesome meta commentary. It is easily my favorite Guy Ritchie film, had good cast and is kinda a mind f. In my opinion its a tragically underappreciated film.
Thanks for the suggestion
The woman pulled out of the car by Mr Pink during his escape
Is the same woman who gets shot at the car wreck in Pulp Fiction
She needs to move
Vic is Vic Vega, the brother from Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction you know ? Welcome to Terrentinos universe
Definitely don't judge tacos by Taco Bell. Those are only tacos by definition. There's no Taco Bells in Mexico because they aren't authentic tacos.
Nice reactions Bliss, but remember this is QT's first movie. It blew your mind when it came out, '92 or '93. Great flick.
It's a messed up system, but nobody makes $2 an hour. They get minimum wage if their tips don't get them there.
Vic "Mr Blonde" is the brother of Vincent in Pulp Fiction
I really hope this isn't cut down to like 17 minutes of movie like most reactions to this 😂
Bisscute always delivers. And you might be watching the wrong Reaction Channels.
You should watch and react to the “society of the snow” a great emotional foreign film that was nominated for an Oscar this year
It's the Hamlet of heist movies. Lots of treachery and death throughout. Then everyone still alive are killed at the end.
Pink is the power of EVERYTHING!
🤔🍻
ok... there are a ton of things I want to comment on, but by far most of all.... do not EVER confuse Taco Bell for real tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc... FOR THE LOVE OF GOOOOOOOOOD!
You should react to.

Probably the closest u can get in Europe tho! Haha but yeah I’d love to take this cutie to Texas for some authentic Mexican food!
.. i looked at super happy songs differently after this movie.. 😵💫🤷♂️ .. lol. It's like oh lord what crazy person is living their worst life to this happy song 🤦♂️ Thanks Tarantino 😆
Have a great day Biss!!
One of The Best films from Tarantino. Thanks for this one Love your reaction Miss Bisscute ❤❤❤ for future reactions i suggest you The films: Dances with wolves (with Kevin Costner) and Heat (with Al Pacino, Robert de Niro and Val Kilmer) you Will love them.
Try some real tacos. In fact, I would totally watch you do food.reviews.❤
I would love to see your reaction to soldier. I’m interested in your perspective on the movie. I watched the movie back in the late 90s and it inspired me to join the army. Everyone in my unit called me a machine because I view my self as Todd and just kept moving forward and had this unstoppable mentality.
i dont know who scares me more, the gangsters or miss biss reactions lol
You should check out Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown.” I think that you would really enjoy it.
Mr. Blond lied when he said he had pawned his mini Hatori Hanzo katana.
My ear perked up a bit, can't wait to see your reaction.
I think you would like Jackie Brown.
Think so?
In the US, you tip waitresses.
Tarantino's best work imo. Total carnage.
I think you have a point about the pacing, but perhaps this is because he is still learning at this point
As a Texan I’m cringing at the thought of Taco Bell in Eastern Europe! Taco Bell is great here, but I would love to bring U down to try some authentic Mexican food! It’s even twice as better if you’re Drunk!
More proof that Tarantino became a director/writer because he couldn't act for shit and, as a director/writer, he could cast his lousy acting into a movie.
Larry (Mr. White) got off two rounds: one at Joe, the other at Eddie, Joe's kid. I was wondering about that, too.
I see,
If it hasn't been recommended already, a significant influence on this film is the original THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE from 1974 with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw; it also had a band of organized criminals who only referred to each other by color names. The remake with John Travolta and Denzel Washington is mediocre.
I also had TacoBell once and by God was it horrid.
haha
larry managed to shoot both of them before going down, harry shot wasnt a kill shot, so larry went for the kill
Ahh ok
I'm a poodle
America: where waiters are treated like slaves who must hope for the pity of customers to be paid for the work done.
Yep, really the Land Of The Free.
America- where republicans define freedom as the freedom to oppress, while democrats define freedom as the freedom from oppression.
