UVA Enlists Robotic Help to Enhance Blood Testing
Automation Allows UVA to Speed Results, Offer Wider Range of Tests
The University of Virginia Health System has revolutionized how it tests patient blood samples, automating its primary testing facility with high-tech robots that are getting doctors results quickly and efficiently - and allowing UVA to offer a wider range of blood tests to boot.
Speedy turnaround times for blood tests are often vital for physicians making important patient-care decisions. They can literally be the difference in life and death. “We are known for receiving the sickest patients, and we want to get the correct treatment to them as rapidly as possible,” explained Doris Haverstick, PhD, UVA’s director of clinical chemistry.
Randy Vandevander, senior manager of UVA’s now automated Clinical Core Laboratory, noted that in one instance, a doctor in the Emergency Department ordered an additional test after sending over a patient blood sample. When the physician went to check on the expected turnaround time, “it had already been sampled, tested and the tube was back in the [storage] rack here,” Vandevander said. “That’s just how quick the system is.”

I thought humans would test it with a microscope. But in reality it's machines that do. Good to know

That's was the case before automated devices, this way is faster makes you do hundreds of tests in small chunks of time

I am a phlebotomist and have worked in specimen processing. You need to go to college for mlt to work on the big chemistry analyer or microscopic analysis.

Medical Laboratory Science or more commonly known as a medical technologist. Look for programs and make sure to get a lab tour and talk to medical laboratory scientist before getting started. May God bless you!

    Those equipment are particularly small
Yeah , I don't mind giving the blue prints of it.
My technology are for industrialize those products.
    It's services it's good
    But it's a different domain.

Counting of ratio red blood to white blood and plasma.
Then the molecular composition of blood it's density and composition which we know how to do it.
Counting it's only microscope and camera, you know this is my natural area. Counting .
    How about calculations
    It's more algebra
    Polymerase chain identification
    Which are cameras and identification.
We are heading to another application of Angels eyes.
    Its really easy.
    I would not copy anything.
I would design a new ones.

But please remember, these guys are there trying to help you, trying to give accurate lab results to you so you can notice you have diabetes before having any symptoms. Yes, they make quite significant proportion of mistakes, but without them, we can never know our blood glucose is so high and do sth about it before we die
