That was amazing!!! I watched another cirp how to and I couldn't see half of what he was talking about. Yours was clear, to the point and easy. Thank you.
Thanks - I have a Yaesu HT which is a piece of cake to program manually. Then I got one of these things ... dear Lord what a nightmare ... so got a cable, downloaded and followed your instructions. Worked like a charm. Thanks!
clicking on the “Get it” =bad Clicking on “Download” under step 1 of “To get Started”, then on “Download the legacy build here” and NOT on “Download the latest Chirp-next build here” finally worked.
How do you choose you own channel to play around with your friends? Do you make up your own channel numbers or something like that? What I mean is I play scenario paintball and sometimes we use radio but everyone is in the same channel ( enemy team ) how do I create my own channel?
I hope I didn't screw up your youtube stats by stopping and starting so many times. Your video is straightforward but my experience was a bit difficult. I think I got 4 repeaters in after all said and done. I can't thank you enought for this video. But thank you anyway :)
Thank you. CHIRP at one point after a failure in the USB connector stopped seeing the 'Settings' section in the UV-5R when reading from the transceiver. But he sees them in the files saved earlier and loads them into the transceiver. Deleting and downloading the program did not help. I don't understand the reason. A full reset to the factory settings of the transceiver also did not help... Probably, some of the parameters in the transceiver became 'out of range' for CHIRP, and he shows the blank page. The question is which one?..
I purchased the cable as directed, plugged it in but there was no software download and I keep getting a 'radio did not respond message'. I followed the quick start users guide that came with the programming cable and loaded an updated driver, still no joy. Tried EVERYTHING on the users guide but still 'radio did not respond'. Can you please help?
I have a similar problem. Probably, some of the parameters in the transceiver became 'out of range' for CHIRP, and he shows the blank page. The question is which one?..
I'm very new to this stuff. I got my UV5R some time ago and haven't programmed it. In trying to figure out this stuff, I have been lost. Entirely. I don't want to talk on the radio (Don't have a HAM license anyway so, yeah.), I want to listen, primarily to my local emergency services, especially since I work for them. But ultimately, I want this radio setup for in the case of a SHTF situation. How do ya'll know what frequencies to program the radio with? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.
So simplex does not get me the range that I need on my 2 balfang radios. I have all the local repeaters programmed in but cannot get. My 2 radios to talk to one another off of the repeater, could you help?
Make sure both simplex radios are of course set to the same frequency, but also confirm that if any privacy codes are used they are also the same. Same goes with programming duplex (repeater) stations. Make sure the offset (look it up) is correct both for the repeater, and programmed into each radio.
When installing chirp on my windows 11 computer, i had to install the usb drivers for the baofang radio using compatibility check. The computer wanted to install the driver using a previous version of windows( vista, 7 etc). Before doing this, i got usb comm errors trying to download from the radio. This was a chipped cable supplied with my baofeng radios.
Ever since I updated Chirp a few weeks ago, I can download from the radio but I get an error message advising me the file is not in a readable format. I even tried my original download file and it gives me the same message. The cable is working properly as I can get to all the menu settings. Should I revert to a legacy version of Chirp and if so which one? Thanks for the great videos. Now if I can only get rid of Egzumer on my Quansheng UV-K6. I tried a factory reset which advised me that I reset all of the settings, but alas it is still there. I can't get any information on how to utilize Egzumer, so it is worthless. I'm afraid of going back to GitHub because I don't know how to remove Egzumer v 22.😢. Any suggestions? Thanks!
If I want to have HAM Channels & Repeaters programmed & Labeled AS WELL AS GMRS Channels/Repeaters programmed & Labeled, does UHF vs VHF Bands matter & if so, how do I separate the two in CHIRP ?
very nice video ... i have one questions I have a VHF baofeng but the power is not enough for all the points that exist here where I am. I want to ask, can I put two baofenfs in linkosmology with a relay box so that I can transfer from one frequency to another or even to the same one? and in what way if you can tell me why I don't get an edge here
Is there a resource that you can recommend for someone like me, a novice, on which frequencies and why, we should program into our HAM? Thank you in advance.
Hey question, when I open CHIRP and go to download my radio, the port location comes up blank and will not recognize my radio. Any ideas why? I'm using the windows edition, I have the Baofeng official cable that came with the radio. When I go to my mycomputer window, again the radio is not recognized.
I was recently given a list of frequencies but they're not quite in a format I understand how to program. Column 1 is Tx Fx, Column 2 is Rx Fx, 3 is Decode Tone and Column 4 is Encode Tone. Thats all I was given.. any help appreciated.
I know this is an older video but I have a question. (I hope you can read this on an older video) I am trying to set up my uv5r to scan emergency channels. Would I still need to type in tones and all that or can I just type in the frequency numbers and save it to like channel number and be done. Sorry for such a stupid question but I am new to ham radios. Thanks
I downloaded Chirp but the settings tab isn't showing up. I downloaded the latest windows version off the website you provided. I'm programming a BF-F8HP. Am I missing something?
Will these instructions work for the BF-F8HP as well? 100% Newbie to Radios, just want something I can use for local communication with my Family. Thanks for any advice!
I just tried to program my uv5r to chirp, just after cloning the first radio it turned off and now won’t turn back on. I tried the second one and it cloned but didn’t die completely.. idk what happened
I am having trouble with downloading stuff from Radio Reference into the chirp software to be able to add it to my radio since i am not able to filter the list out i got well over 50 thousand stations in just about every radio service for example all of the commercial and ham and GMRS/frs it would take a lifetime to go through the list can you please help me to setup my account on radio reference since i just got the paid one done and in chirp there is no way to filter it only for user name password and zip code that is where i am stuck other then that i have been able to use chirp fine
Can anyone help, i followed the video step by step and everytime i get an error message. Radio did not respond. I then realise everytime i press download the radio turns itself off and then on again. Can anyone help, im at the end of the rope now.
How far from the closest repeater are you? You may just need a better antenna. The antennas that come with HT’s are usually not the best. Check out Signal Stuff Signal Stick Antennas. Or the Ed Fong Roll Up J-Pole.
Hi there, this was very helpful. I know this is an older video but I had a question about choosing frequencies. Could you please explain how you came up with the numbers? I am looking to use this radio in a closed loop for business ops. thank you.
This is a ham radio which requires a license to use on ham frequencies. Definitely illegal to conduct business on ham radio frequencies as well. Technically you could program this for the FRS frequencies though that isn't really legal either. This wouldn't be the best thing for what you're trying to do. Look at getting a business radio license.
If this is not possible could you suggest a better radio for 123-acre property application? I bought these because I wanted something high-powered enough for hikes etc @@hamradiotube
Wow, been checking around… I’ve not used a window’s based pc in years. But many laptops don’t even have dvd players. It appears that there is no other way but to buy a higher priced windows unit to do simple programming.
Just wondering, can you transmit on this radio? Like a walkie-talkie? If so, what would the range be from unit to unit, not using the repeater, like police radio's? Is it better than a regular walkie-talkie or a handheld CB? And would you need a license to transmit? I'll take an answer from anyone out there that might know. Thank you !
