Also if I ever make a raw damage build vid can I mention 1 of your builds but you gt the credit I'll say to go to your channel but some people wont notice me but I'll try
I never knew about the blur screen effect, I always used the left leg method. The monster will pause then lift it's left leg and just before it lands, you dodge. For Quadruped monster (4 legs) it's the forelimbs.
For wyvern monsters (Monsters with 2 legs) and certain quad pedal monsters pull their heads back before roaring you can time your dodge rolls, or dive and block.
If I remember correctly, that blurred effect actually stops at the edge of a roars range so you can see a roars "bubble". But don't quote me on that cause I might be seeing things.
Remember you gotta dodge towards the roar. It's like a projectile. You can't dodge in the same direction. You'll dodge it at first yeah but since you're dodging in the same direction the projectile will still be on you cause you to get hit. Same goes for Tremor, that's why tremors are a pain in the ass to dodge especially me being a side roller. Always dodge towards the moves.
most monsters have certain tells that you can use to dodge the roar. eg. fanged/flying wyverns and KT move their left foot forward right before roaring, roll as soon as their left foot touches the ground.
You blew my mind with the blurring effect tip. I've been practicing rolling through roars and KT drives me crazy because she visually starts roaring quite a bit before the roar actually hits you.
tldr : if you aren't confident you won't get hit more than once or twice, forget about damage builds, go for utility/survivability builds. 5 minutes in the video, if the shown gameplay at that time is you playing, you're better off with earplug than crit build. META builds are only for people who are confident they won't get hit and will consistently dodge then resume attacking almost right away. If you get hit, you just lost 15 - 20 seconds of dps because you need to walk away, heal and them resume attacking. This happening once or twice during a quest is enough to make crit build less efficient than a build that woul'd have enabled you to evade those hits.
Fulldamage builds will teach you to play better though. Because if you're required to play perfect, you're going to be more likely to achieve that play than when you use all evade skills there are.
For real. He makes a video criticizing the lack of damage with Earplugs build because you're not getting "max damage" and then in a 10 min vid, he is getting hit by every single attack. These are the players that frustrates me the most. If you are not good enough, don't worry about damage, worry about surviving. I'd take a guy who does average damage but can survive an entire fight over the guy with a max dps build and getting carted every minute.
My favorite true combo was the red and blue rathalos quest. Oh yeah it was so fun to deal with. One roared, then the other did as well, head butted to a stun, followed by a tail whip and head butt to first faint. Revived by palico just to be charged into a headbutt again for faint. So much fun.
Of course you upload this when I just finished learning by myself. 8:36 "Roar through the dodge" Now I get why GE always roars back at monsters. EDIT: Also to outspace monster roars, they seem to have much less range backwards than forwards (or at least some). So if you are behind the monster you may even outspace it unknowingly. As for blocking roars, block towards the monster's head not at its body. I had to learn that from being under Extremoth ._.
Empress Y can't compete with bazel helm bc it has tool specialist rather than a small deco slot. You can't substitute the arms slot without giving up spare shot or masters touch
When dodging certain monster roars, another great visual que is the monster steps with it's left leg. You dodge right when that happens. A good example is Ratholos.
Dude no joke and absolutely serious comment - I havent hear anyone in my life to explain anything more simple in my life - the terms are as simple as possible, the order of everything is correct, you won my subscription with 1 video.
Nergi divebomb is undodgeable at some ranges with certain weapons, and kushala is probably one of the biggest offenders of roar true combos in the game. Should probably mention those.
Surprised you didn't mention Nergigante's roar and dive combo. I've seen many people die to it when he's tempered. I'm pretty sure that when he's released as an arch tempered, that combo will be a guaranteed one hit kill. Unless you have guts/felyne moxie.
Jumping with IG to reduce the total stun-time from roars is a great tactic and I'm glad you mentioned it here! However, for the worst offenders (especially Teostra/Lunastra and Kushala), their roars are generally so fast that they'll catch you before you can vault up into the air. For these monsters, at least while you're practicing/soloing, I would highly recommend Evade window 2 or 3 to learn the timing. It's possible with 0 evade window, but the timing is much tighter at this point.
@TheGameconomist In regards to out-spacing a roar, there's a trick that I found really helps if you have and play Generations Ultimate. It works for monsters that World has in common, but it helps to figure out roar ranges for the monsters that haven't been in other games. In Generations/Ultimate, monster roars have a VISIBLE AREA OF EFFECT. What you're looking for is the vertical speed lines emanating from the ground. When you're outside of the monster's roar range, you can see a clear and visible border. What I do is remember the approximate range, and when attempting to out-space, I use that data. It, surprisingly, works.
Personally I like to keep my necklace slot open for dedicated anti-BS purposes, whether it be Earplugs vs Vaal/Teo, Tremor resist vs Deviljho, Heat Guard vs Xeno, Poison resist vs Rathalos, Paralysis resist vs Kirin etc.
Finally someone mentioned the importance of "ROAR", Also you should know Kirin or any of the piscine wyverns don't have roar. Max earplug is essential with GS or hammer or CB, you don't want your final attack to go miss.
1. Vaal Hazak's roar is also too long if you want to roll through it effectively without any further levels of Evade Window. Furthermore, I disagree about Vaal's "threat level" when it comes to roars as the most that could happen would be it dropping on you. On the other hand- 2. Kushala Daora is far more dangerous in that regard as its short roar results in the same stun animation for you, which in turn gives it more than enough time to do an attack on you. Other than that... a good video. I particularly enjoyed the hunter in the full Bazelgeuse gear. =D
TheFirstDarkAero teostra is dangerous man. After roar he will rush towards you and hit you with his head like a truck and theres no way to dodge since youre still in the stun animation. Kushala on the otherhand still base on rng if it uses the 1hit airblast attack but mostlikely he will just fly and summon tornado. Teostra will just straight up hit you with hes head lol

Yep, there are some exceptions for me, but almost all of my builds also have earplugs 5. Its amazing how often I see people going into a hunt with all damage, no earplugs, health or resistance of any kind, and surprise surprise they are often (certainly not always) the first to cart. Certainly, play how you want to play, have fun, but meta builds aren't for everyone, and that's fine as well.

I love dodging roars, it's such a rewarding game mechanic that i need to learn it. It feels so god damn good to dodge a roar after 300+ hours into the game getting literally roar chained sometimes not being able to move for 10 to 15 seconds or somewhat like that. I guess im gonna start off with easy to time roars with the evasion mantle and once this sits doing many tier 2 investigations ima try my luck on the tempered ones since i tend to have a hard time to dodge those roars...
Sensational video and will be helpful to many hunters for many years to come. I am a pleb and cannot time the dodge to save my life so its Earplug life for me. Thanks again.
GS taught me how to deal with roars really well, they're basically free DPS increases thanks to the absurdity that is tackle. Even if I'm not charging, the block does it as well, it's great
Charge Blade can guard point roars. Kind of a subset of blocking, but it's helpful to know that when CB blocks or GPs the roar, you can go straight into your super with Y+B (like most attacks as long as you have a reasonable amount of guard skill level, via the skill itself or via charged shield and the GP). That long roar animation makes this a great time to get the super off and usually land it really well.
Friendly reminder, Gameconomist has been playing the Monster Hunter series for quite some time. If you're a new player don't worry about going full meta damage build. Wait until you really know a monster or at least have a good grasp of them before going balls out damage focus. The largest loss of damage is carting. Build SOME surviability into your builds, just slotting 2 Health Boost (vitality) gems into a build at the cost of maybe some affinity or attack power. For Lunastra I'd actually suggest focusing more on surviability than damage since she is a PITA. Earplugs 5 isn't AS useful as it on on Teostra but it can help. I'd actually recommend subbing in 3 pieces of Kushala since she deals with a lot of wind pressure. Also what he says about Peak Performance. Note that it really does require a speed runner or someone with a high health recovery to get the most out of it. Most of the tougher fights deal tick damage which means that it can be largely a useless skill.
Once you get hit and are on the ground in lunatras supernova don't move even if you burn, that could save your life cause you didn't get hit by the second blast as long you stay down.
problem is: with GS i really want to have earplugs so I can charge my weapon while it is roaring, dodging wont help me there. and for each roar thats a full combo so damage wise I think its actually better to go earplugs there
For Charge blades, roars can be guard pointed into SAED/AED. Your better off learning how to do that than losing damage output by putting earplugs in your equipment.
for flying wyvern it's all the same: they wind up the roar, their right foot goes up and you press the dodge button at the second they step foreward with that right foot. it's pretty easy to learn from rathalos and rathian.
It's all about playstyle. You're right about it being safe and reliable because it will never not work, but if you're good at timing them mhw rewards higher risk gameplay a ton.
@@ambuhbliss I think risks kill you more than they do reward you, all risk ever reward me with is hunts that take 45min. Cause you cart more than anything else.
@@akarti813 I don't know how to respond to this without sounding like an ass... but I can promise you mhw favors damage and aggression far more than any other mh game if you're good enough at it.
@@ambuhbliss Trust me you not only one who has said that, But i just don't see that as being true at this point especially when carting is only thing you get out of it. And hunts that take longer than 45mins are not fun and it doesn't help that monster can seemingly read your inputs as well.
@@akarti813 Yeah monsters AI will recognize high motion value attacks and do their best to try and dodge them if possible, but my hunts do not take me that long at all nor do I cart often. The only "defensive" skill I find super useful has always been Health boost. Didn't have to rely on it too much before but now that I have MR on PC it has been a life saver.
There's no feeling like being in a 4 player hunt and being the only one that dodged a roar, and you get to slap the monster while everyone else is covering their ears.
Earplug is one of my favourite skills. Im using it against almost all monsters haha. But the blur tip is mind blowing. How did I only found this out after 250 hours?
Yeah that argument of because I’m not stunned I’m doing damage is partly why I just opt for earplugs on a lot of builds. That and I main charge blade and I got sick of starting my big discharge and suddenly the monster roars and I get knocked out of it. I’ve had a lot less fun with GenU for this reason earplugs is harder to build while still doing damage though Valor style helps it just isn’t a perfect solution. I digress the “just dodge it” argument is a cop out to me a lot of weapons do t have that option sometimes due to animation locks or kinda crappy side effects of taking a defensive action. I also don’t feel bad building it unlike a lot of other resistances because nearly every monster can roar unlike how only some can tremor, poison, burn, etc.
The roar isn't what gets people killed by Lunastra's nova but that God dang wind pressure. I prefer to run Lunastra "Styx" specifically when fighting her as I can heal the team whilst we book it out of the blast zone not remotely hindered. Also helps that it does have attack and defense up s (L when re-perfomed) which helps with damage output and handling Lunastra's physical attacks.
Needs to be revisited period as if he thinks you're losing out on "a lot" of damage because you went for ear plugs lvl 5 then he is either trolling people or a moron...
Certain monsters I just kind of picked up dodging the roars naturally. Teo gave me trouble for a while so I ran him a ton and just started doing it. I still get caught off guard a good bit. Luna I try to keep myself positioned in an area where if she roars and I get caught, she’ll likely miss me when she swipes. Strangely the one roar which screws me the most is Kushala’s. Nasty comboed swipe gets me a lot. Kush is just a pain with SNS
Just lance, and counter ezpizzie Edit: just watched the whole vid, and i'm actually legit dissappointed in you for not mentioning the counter move in lance, i mean lance solves everything, from damage to guarding to evading.. To guarding😂
It’s probably because it’s kinda given in the guarding point of the video that you can get back to attacking after a block. But I love the lance too, hopping through roars is so satisfying but pretty risky.
I couldn't roll away from VH's roar, not even with evade mental--it shows effect but still stunned. Not sure about pickle and Xeno, but I was never able to dodge theirs.
The dodge method is best ofc, but not easy to pull out when you play with high ping. For example, in Iceborne when I punch a monster to turn him around and im not the host of the quest, the monster takes easily a half second to turn around, sometimes I even check if the monster enraged during the punch and when I look back to it, it turned -.- So yea, dodging is the best, but not really viable if you play with high ping or you're not the host of the hunt

Remembering the good old time when white+orange kinsect extract gave you medium earplugs with the IG.
problem is: with GS i really want to have earplugs so I can charge my weapon while it is roaring, dodging wont help me there. and for each roar thats a full combo so damage wise I think its actually better to go earplugs there
Andreas you can tackle through roars
God bless you Femto, who ever you are
He's my oldest patreon sub!
For Charge blades, roars can be guard pointed into SAED/AED. Your better off learning how to do that than losing damage output by putting earplugs in your equipment.
I love how you uploaded this vid after we hear Tigrex from the reveal 🤣
for flying wyvern it's all the same: they wind up the roar, their right foot goes up and you press the dodge button at the second they step foreward with that right foot. it's pretty easy to learn from rathalos and rathian.
Earplugs are way safer and more reliable since dodging a roar is more luck and doesn't 100% work all the time.
There should be a Skyrim-MHW collab at this point which gives our hunter to use the shouts .
thx I usually guessed on dodging the roar but now I know at what time to roll
Thanks Yoda, I'm going to master the roll/bow dodge to get rid of the earplugs crutch and replace with more damage
I usually outspace a roar by going the distance of the monster’s length away. Works most of the time as bigger monster tend to have the bigger roars
thanks for posting this. I was thinking to max out my earplugs. but after this, I'll get lv 4 and stay with it.
Some roars you can dodge on reaction! Against KT and Teostra you can press roll just as you hear their roar begin properly and you'll dodge it
There's no feeling like being in a 4 player hunt and being the only one that dodged a roar, and you get to slap the monster while everyone else is covering their ears.
Earplug is one of my favourite skills. Im using it against almost all monsters haha.
But the blur tip is mind blowing. How did I only found this out after 250 hours?
you could prob just superman dive thru roars if you don't know the times to dodge, it just takes so long lol
This needs to be revisted with Iceborne info.
Kush is just a pain with SNS
funny that I never played the game and watched videos about it, but youtube feels like I need this
Teostra's roar can one shot you if you are using bow. He can roar from across the room to stun and jump on you to kill you.
Just lance, and counter ezpizzie
Edit: just watched the whole vid, and i'm actually legit dissappointed in you for not mentioning the counter move in lance, i mean lance solves everything, from damage to guarding to evading.. To guarding😂
It’s probably because it’s kinda given in the guarding point of the video that you can get back to attacking after a block. But I love the lance too, hopping through roars is so satisfying but pretty risky.
It's 'Easy Peasy"
Wow thanks good info didn't know about the screen blur.
I couldn't roll away from VH's roar, not even with evade mental--it shows effect but still stunned. Not sure about pickle and Xeno, but I was never able to dodge theirs.
The dodge method is best ofc, but not easy to pull out when you play with high ping.
For example, in Iceborne when I punch a monster to turn him around and im not the host of the quest, the monster takes easily a half second to turn around, sometimes I even check if the monster enraged during the punch and when I look back to it, it turned -.-
So yea, dodging is the best, but not really viable if you play with high ping or you're not the host of the hunt
Been playing for 3u but never realized I could roll through the roars 😂😂😂😂 man I've been doing the things the hard way this whole time
I always timed the roll wrong thanks for the info
Bazel actually has a very small AOE roar. You can continue hitting him with bowguns while out of range.
Easy Air pods plus 5; I mean earplugs plus 5 end of the video; thanks. That's why I love deviant Rathalos armor in MHGU love to be hitting monsters while everyone else is stunned. I never tried it before in MH world and now I love it great skills guys to have specially if u like to shred the monsters to pieces.
I knew there was something about dodging roars before the blurred screen. Did it a few times but wasnt sure how.
"everything you need to counter roars"
**LAUGHS IN FULL TIGREX ARMOUR**
Bazel is better tho, cuz it also gives you guts
