Because of course James Corden is in this.
He knew it was gonna be a bad movie and was like "I must be in it"
He's not just in it, He's the first billed actor
But to be fair, James Corden never misses an opportunity to be in a musical.
He starred in the Emoji movie. His standards can't be that high.
I think that he deserves an Academy award for his performance in this movie.
This part genuinely made me laugh. Not because it was comical genius but because it was so embarrassingly bad I either had to laugh or cry.
Some things are so bad, you can't help but be amazed by it.
@@chasehedges6775 and then you wonder if it is satire
He's made it in Hollywood tho! how about you?
@@browndemon386 alright calm down and go back to whichever diahorreal circle of hell you came from
That's Andrew Lloyd Webber for you
The problem is that in the original, Bustopher wasn't always bumbling and had a sense of some kind of regality behind his character.
His character was defined as being on top and rich. In this, he's always depicted as clumsy, trying to be classy but never really getting there. It destroys the original character in the name of comedy relief.
1:51 I got some serious cat in the hat vibes right there.
The sad part is Corden isn't all that bad of a singer, plus he has a natural English accent, so he could've been a decent fit had they not written him to be a walking punchline
Him and Rebel Wilson are the fat cats, therefore the only traits they're allowed to have is that they're fat and clumsy. Rather annoying if you ask me.
He was lowkey clumsy when he does the weird leg kick things and nearly falls backwards but like, one of the main parts of his number is that he has a good relationship with Misto since he’s looking up to him and Bustopher doesn’t brush him off as much as he does with Munkustrap and Alonzo
@@HaleyDrake123 Sad too because the Gumbie Cat is supposed to be lazy, but not really fat. At night she's capable of shedding her coat, and the point in the musical is that she was clumsy with all the extra stuff but suddenly starts dancing once she gets serious.
The song *is about Bustopher being distinguished and regal*
The movie *only shows Bustopher eating literal trash and makes him the but of fat jokes*
To be fair, in terms of cats, eating harty meals of shrimp and stew bones is regal, even if picked from garbage
You missed the joke. The joke is that in the original he is a fat glutton because he eats humans scraps from their meals but having so much food is a cats dream so they make this fat glutton out to be rich and regal. Of course he was also a Satire of fat rich bastards at the time
@@Houndoomgirl77 yeah I feel like that joke could have been more explicit in this movie and still worked. Like if they had him eating garbage but he was all regal and propper about it. But they really didn't play him being fat for comedy much. Idk I feel like in better hands that could have worked
@@Houndoomgirl77 Uh no, the joke is that Bustopher eats a higher class of scraps than the other cats and they are impressed by his refined tastes, not simply the amount he eats. It only works if he's treated as cultured and discerning, knowing all the best restaurants for the best scraps and eating like a gentleman. Showing him literally wallowing in trash completely misses the point. The joke is in treating trash like delicacies, and him as a connoisseur.
Him being sensitive about his weight instead of proud of it misses the point too. As for landing on his nuts... ugh... not surprised Lloyd Webber absolutely hated this version of the song.
Fat jokes for life!
Original Bustopher: Respected cat, a nice Poirot parody, fine cat who was loved by people, a bit spoiled but not haughty, probably his owner is a soldier since they salute him. Fine restaurants chefs feed him all sort of goodies.
Movie Bustopher: fat, pompous idiot who tries to be classy without being it one bit, eats trash.
Pretty much. Original is fat and spoiled but he still had a dignity to him. This one just sucks all of that out and we're left with this
exactly!
Sa Sa although he is still quite a gentleman like in the original play, despite unaware of spitting victoria accidentally
Movie Bustopher is just like James Corden.
He’s literally singing about how classy he is not how much he eats.
He hangs around rich people in clubs and rich houses and the people feed him because he’s cute and friendly.
The cats respect him because of his connections, (to people with food) as being fat is their standard of health, wealth, and beauty
This movie portrayed him as a sloppy, gluttonous pig who mucks around in the swill and garbage.
1:51 Universal when they saw the hate for this movie before it came out.
1:56 Universal when they received the box office result of Cats.
@Magnus Von Braun deserved
Ngl the true travesty is the writing. Bustopher isn't a comedy character, so why is the movie so desperate to paint him as one by adding crotch jokes and fat jokes that weren't there in the original?
Oh, he is a comedic character, but the original joke was that he's a caricature of a pompous upperclass twit to whom prestigious club memberships mean nothing more than the next meal. The movie's makers appear to have agreed that's much too sophisticated for their audience so they simply replaced satire with obnoxious fat jokes, low blows and pratfalls whenever possible. I can hardly even tell a song takes place in there.
Because it's James Corden.......And MILLENIALS YO!!!!!
@@krakelwok True, I kinda realised afterwards that the humour is a lot more subtle than I realised 🤔 But this is a good input 👀
Uggh the faces are so disturbing I wished they made the into actual cat faces.
@@matthewballon7553 wdym that would've ruined it, they should have just removed the cgi
I'm sorry, but the last acceptable Cats movie came out over 20 years ago.
Mike Myers cat in the hat movie?
TVBnine There was a stage that was Cats. This film draws inspiration to that drama stage.
Everything about this is deeply unpleasant.
THIS ⬆️⬆️⬆️
I think I read a review of this movie that said the exact same thing
@@vwgames49 Could be because that's every review of that movie ever.
It just want meant to be a film
"You know what this movie needs? Human cats rolling in, and feasting upon, garbage."
Why 👏🏻 do 👏🏻 they 👏🏻 have 👏🏻 human 👏🏻 hands? 👏🏻
I’ll do you one better: Why👏🏻did👏🏻this👏🏻movie👏🏻get👏🏻made
vwgames49 they wore cgi suits to get into the characters, blended into the green screen
And why do they have toes
TiaMystic they had green screen suits on
Broadwaygirl 918 That doesn’t answer my question
1:37 I feel like he paused because he suddenly thought, "wtf am I doing with my life"
The bit where he talks literally sounds like it’s from a Late Late show skit
😂
It’s all he’s good at really
Good God. Bustopher Jones isn’t ashamed of his weight, he’s proud of his girth! It’s a sign that he is a prosperous and clever cat who knows where to find food, and other cats admire him for it.
It even connects with the aesthetic of the time period. Back when TS Eliot wrote these lines, a heavyset man was assumed to be wealthy and prosperous, rather than simply a slob. How could these people screw up this character this much? Especially a British director like Tom Hooper!?
Being British doesn’t mean much, Helen Keller could’ve made this movie better than Hooper
Absolutely, spot on old bean!
We the gentlemen of a certain tonnage are in my estimation comparable to a finely matured claret (and maybe a slice of Gruyere for good measure hurrah!)
Let us of course dispense with the niceties post-haste as to avoid any further pointless prevarication. There was evidently no attempt to grapple with any of the nuances or thematical theory present in the original esteemed and highly dramatical work.
I'm afraid I can only echo your concerns with regards to Mr. Hooper, truly he has turned his back not only on the glorious tradition of theatre but also failed to live up to the standards and bearing of gentlemen of this fine commonwealth.
My suggestion, the gallows.
Since when has super ever been a good director?
Because the music and poetry is reframed for a modern audience with a different social context
@@al4381 but that's the problem, he doesn't need to and it shouldn't be made to be like that, because the modern audience you would see this film, likes the musical for what it is there's a reason this musical is good because of what it is, this should be a warning to all directors that things are most likely good as they are and they do not need some weird twist in it
The horror... The horror...
too funny...... Brando style ' the HORROR..
I find irony in your choice of quote as Brando went on to portray Dr. Moreau in his later career.
At 1:38, Corden realizes what he’s in.
And not even he's sure what they're supposed to be by the sound of it.
@@krakelwok I loved that scene i thought its brilliant that hes like wait what are we? 😂
Hahaha
he realises he's in james corden's body
This makes the stage version deserve a pulitzer Prize. Its much better.
@Azula The Devil's Wench yeah. Andrew Lloyd Webber has some good content. However, Idk bout this one....yeeeesss?
Fun fact: Andrew Lloyd Webber hated James Corden’s performance in this movie.
Is that it? I'd assume he hates everything about this.
@@woolworthspossum4370 that he does, apparently at the premiere he made a speech where he basically said he wasn't to blame for what they were about to see
Another fun fact: James Corden said in an interview that he hated the film.
He hated JC or the movie?
@@springheartedtiger Both.
Bustopher has always been proud of his heft! He is a weighty bloke! How dare you suggest he’s embarrassed?! 1:23
I think Bustopher and the other cats were proud of his wheight 'cause in their club of mostly homeless cats a fat cat is really rare, so yeah he would be proud not ashamed of wheight
@@dmen7280 Precisely!
I like to think it's head canon that 1:17 was a James Corden meltdown similair to Christian Bale and rather than scrap it they just left it in there because... Why not?
The way he hesitated before adressing the others as "cats" helps to support this imo.
Cat in the hat has really let himself go
Macavity is the real hero for interrupting this horror show
Bustopher: You know! You know! that I'm sensitive about my size!
Also Bustopher: I'M A TWENTY-FIVE POUNDER, OR I AM A BOUNDER! AND I'M PUTTING ON WEIGHT EVERY DAY!
you can never go wrong with him :D
@@Broadwaygirl918 Nice to see you again!
Consistency doesn’t matter as long as they could squeeze in a fat joke
Nice pfp
@@dmen7280 Thanks!
This movie is so...
Cringey...
I'd use the term nightmare inducing but cringey works too
Furries gone wrong

Listen....the stage show isn’t this bad
Hmm yes the floor here is made out of floor
the REAL bustopher jones would NEVER
Yes James Corden. You would totally be in this. I bet they all thought this was gonna be so groundbreaking 😂
You know the weird thing? I knew this was going to suck the moment I heard James Corden was in the movie, let alone seeing the special effects.
Same. Corden just sucks. He acts in EVERYTHING like a pompous year 11 school boy who has just landed the lead role in the school play.
Him being in the movie made me like him actually lol.
@@kejiri3593 sorry to hear that
The thing about James is that he’s not even a bad actor,
There’s just something about him that rubs me the wrong way.
@@Grandmaster_Dragonborn he's obnoxious
As soon as James Corden’s character came into the movie, I immediately lost what very very little hope I’ve had left.
Imagine, if you will, a broadway song, now imagine if it was interrupted by a staged rant by the lead singer straight out of family guy, complete with an obnoxiously posh Rex Harrison impersonation.
Because that’s what just happened here. From the director of “The King’s Speech,” I hope Tom Hooper’s proud of himself.
Bustopher jones: “ you know I’m sensitive about my weight!”
Me: “ then why the frick are you eating so much?”
And singing about it?
The looks on their faces at 2:03 sums up everybody who is watching this movie
lol
Sooo true
ngl bustopher jones's musical number could have made a great body positivity message.
because in the musical he's big, he knows he's big, but he doesn't care and neither do the other cats and he's still a well-respected and intelligent cat... but no they just made his number a prolonged fat joke...
People can just lose weight, especially in the US.
*"Thanks, Tugger"*
One of the best things in this song.
I didn't know Mike Myers made a cameo in this as the cat in the hat
I'd take The Cat in the Hat any day of the week over....whatever the hell this is!
@@DHynes5 I prefer neither, Idk why I this huge aversion to the cat in the hat movie
James Corden is one of those people I just irrationally hate. Every time I see him vocalizing in that coffee commercial I just wanna deck him.
Glad we finally get to see James without makeup on.
1998: Bustopher Jones is an old cat in a suit everyone honored. Other cats sing about him, that he has clubs, is smart, and more.
2019: Bustopher Jones runs through the streets joking about how fat he is, literally eats trash and uses it to brag about what he's done.
This and Jennyanydots's song are batshit insane.
The musical: To the Jellicles, Bustopher Jones is an incredibly successful cat. He's the St. James Street cat, so even though he's (probably) a stray, he goes around to all the posh restaurants and gets the kitchen scraps from the cooks every single day. He has a lot of good, fancy food every day without having to work for it (i.e. he's not a "commonplace mouser"). Essentially, he's the idle rich.
The movie: Ha ha James Corden is wearing a fat suit.
Once I saw 1:35, I knew that James Corden saw the CGI.
Ugh, why am I doing this to myself?
1:38 That moment when B.J. looks at the camera!😂
B. J.?! Oh good, that conjures up mental images I really didn't need on top of everything else wrong with this. 😂
2:42
Bustopher spits out food at Victoria's face
I didn't even notice that the first couple times. They really worked incredibly hard to make everyone, how they look, what they sing and what they do in this movie unpleasant or cringey, or both.
Mistoffelees: AH
Or James Corden cat is unpleasant
Alt comment, James Corden spits food at world-renowned ballerina Jessica Hayworth who did not deserve any part of this mess
I cannot stop staring at Mr. Mistoffelees and Victoria
1:50 right in the batteries 😖
>Batteries
1:22 To be fair the whole movie wasn’t going to work. It’s a glorious trainwreck. At least I liked the production design.
Maybe like a animated movie....maybe
Would've been better if they just use costume or just make it animated. The songs are enjoyable, but sadly the whole movie just a nope train
@@fatherplatypus2316 If they make it animated, the studio can't get those sweet sweet Oscar nominations
@@luisalonso959 something like "cats don't dance"? It would have been waaaay better
Cats: “we have an all star cast”
Also Cats: casts James Corden as Bustopher so they can make bumbling fat guy jokes and (for some reason) jokes about him being sensitive about his weight, AFTER he sings an entire song about how fat he is
bless you movieclips
now I can relive the horror I felt in the theatre over and over again
In this version all the 'fat' cats are portrayed as stupid or comical and not with the respect that the original poems intended. The stage show got it right.
It's just another way in which the film sucked
this is the scariest scene
I could endure this more than Rebel and "the critters".
Fun fact: When he was interview about his thoughts on the movie, Corden responded that he heard its bad.
0:19 (Gasp, then grrr!) PUT YOUR CLOTHES BACK ON!!
Who wants to bet that Jimmy Corden was the biggest drama queen of the Cast behind the scenes?
True story: When Peter Rabbit came out, Corden’s dad wrote a letter to Mark Kermode after Kermode called the film “Irritating Rabbit”.
@@thecinematicmind Oof. Sounds like the guy can't even handle criticism then, huh?
Also fun fact: When someone interview James Corden about his thoughts on the film, he heard that the film was bad.
I can't imagine how awkward it was watching this inside a packed cinema. The silence must have been deafening.
its good to see he slimmed down for the role
How fitting that this video was uploaded on April 1st.
The way he looks at the screen and says “cats” 😂😂😂 gets me every time
1:51 ("CRUNCH!") 😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣
It's like watching a horror movie and my eyes can't adjust to the movements.
3:05 you can see in the background Victoria was tapping mr mistoffelees then when he popped up with food you can see she wanted to take it lol Victoria is using mr mastoffelees for food!
1:51 This is basically what the whole movie did to its audience.
This made me cry, laugh because i cried, cry because i laughed at this and then 2:49 came along. Nether the less, the phone was yeeted and serious therapy is needed.
It's significant that literally every actual cat video on UA-cam is far better than this twisted epic of cinematic disaster.
2:42 HEY! Bustopher Jones spit out his food-in Victoria's FACE!
I'm not gonna lie, I like it when he hisses. 1:17 to me its hilarious.
Imagine going into an alley to take out the garbage and you see THIS!
This is why aliens dont want anything to do with us
Why does James Corden choose to be in such bad movies? He was in both Cats and The Emoji Movie
Don't forget Peter Rabbit, A mess of a movie but he was in Into the Woods which was actually decent.
I think it's also pretty clear that he's just a bad actor and can't sing, he's also probably a crappy person in real life
1:50 best part of the entire movie.
😂
I hope it was real.
It's sad because james corden is one of my favorite persons and this is my favorite song from the musical
Damn that rlly made it look like his real body
This movie is the reason why aliens don't talk to us.
Lookin for likes?
Why would they do this to such an amazing musical.
I'm so glad they stop the song multiple times to put in some of James Cordens h i l a r i o u s improv. Totally isn't annoying at all
I like this one 😂😂❤❤
The first time I saw this was in the theater, stoned out of my mind, and was laughing so hard that if I watched it in anything other than five second increments, I'd have passed out from breathlessness or pissed my pants. Came to see if it was really that funny and it really, really wasn't.
I saw this in theatres and cannot remember most of it genuinely blocked fever dream out of my mind
Perfect casting choice for bustopher jones.
Best movie ever
I love that movie 😍😍😍
Bustopher Jones in this movie looks like a mix between Garfield and The Cat in the Hat.
At 0:52 he's inside the can, throws the chicken leg forwards, out of the can and it lands beside the can, behind the opening lol
0:04 How he can sing and drink milk at the same time? I mean, maybe he sings not by his mouth.
You know what I’m convinced this is what’s played on TVs in hell for theatre kids.
3:10 they are taking this to far can’t they just pass it normally like with there hands
Well it’s a little bit of a lady and the tramp reference there
@@Broadwaygirl918 huh
