As cute as he is, he's a completely different character. I would have enjoyed seeing a shy and clumsy but talented magician in some other movie. Misto, according to his description, was quiet, small, mysterious and clever. He knew what he was doing, and he was the only one who knew what he was doing, and that made him purrfect.

It's like they looked at one of broadway's biggest smash hits and thought "eh, we can do it better. Chuck all the notes into the garbage."
I mean for Macavity's song the lyric is: "Macavity's a ginger cat, he's very tall and thin" and they made him big and black. /sigh
I think that sums up the movie completely. Some of the ideas were good and would have been fine in a spin-off or vaguely related tale, but what they gave us wasn't cats and it wasn't anything else either leaning to a discombobulated mess

Yeah, obviously she is a skilled dancer, but she isn't a bad singer either. On top of that, she is gorgeous. Though, part of me thinks she is content with going back to the Royale Ballet. I hope she does continue I'm Hollywood.
@@KevinMuller5 I can't tell about her acting because most of the movie is singing, but she's one of the few who came out with dignity when it was over. Her solo singing the one line in this song was probably one of the few actual emotional moments in the movie.

I think she's the only reason people suffered through this. I haven't seen this movie, but I watched the trailer, and even though I hated it, I liked her.

I'm so mad they took anything remotely interesting away from Mr. Mistofelees. Just bland, generic, Hollywood BS. But what do we expect from a director who doesn't understand how musicals work, let alone the effing source material, let alone the lyrics to "memory." Seriously, I hated this movie before I ever saw the original show and it's no wonder everyone hates it but little girls & Taylor Swift fans.

That and Rum Tum Tugger is supposed to be singing this about Mistofelees and it's very...flamboyant and 80s lol. The 2016 revival plays them a bit more flirty tho and the fans of the musical have come to expect that at this point. But it's just up to interpretation.

As much as I'm not really a fan of the Mistoffelees and Victoria romance, I do really love the inclusion of the lyrics "A cat so clever, so clever, as you..." I'm soft for that line and I'm man enough to admit it.
And his "As me" with the harmony was nice as well IMO. Would have been better if he'd finished the musical phrase instead of just that one short note though.

He knew he was great, why would he need to be convinced that he was great? I guess I'm just sad that they stripped away all of his flamboyant owning of the stage in preference of a lack of confidence. I don't need to relate to him, I need to be wonderstruck like the other cats, because that's what the audience is supposed to be. Angelical cats. As the intro song alludes to.
@@APenguinsLullaby In some performances, Mistoffelees does sing parts of his song (and seems loudly boastful of the whole roof thing). Just like in some performances, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteezer's song is either sung by Mungojerrie alone, or by a separate cat.
I don't like the whole clutz thing they did with him, but I did like that line at the end and just wish he held the note longer.

When I heard Steven Mcrae was in the movie I honestly thought he would be Misto and I thought it was excellent they where getting a pro dancer to do the most challenging dance routine.

As someone who really loves the musical (1998 recording comes to mind) it really is sad how Tom Hooper destroyed something so grand and spectacular. This number is the perfect example :,(
I've watched that version over and over since I was a child and loved it, although not what I was expecting and nowhere as good as the musical theatre versions this song is not the worst in the soundtrack.
Yeah I think I'll stick to the version where Mr. Mistofelees knows he's the hot stuff and the people sing his praises not sing to encourage someone unsure of himself.
I like a lot of things about this. I like that Munkustrap started the song; that was interesting. I do think it was a mistake to completely cut Tugger out of it, excepting his adlibbed notes in the chorus. And I do wish Mistoffelees had gotten to run up and hug Old Deuteronomy. But the emotions were good.
I just think the director sucked all of the life out of this number because they interrupt it too many times and only sing the chorus over and over again. Having Tugger sing this in the stage show brings it much more character. Though with what they were working with, the performers did a good job.
I love how there’s like 7 girls there and yet Jason is hitting the high notes 😂😂
This movie clearly shows how some Hollywood executives are out of touch of what audiences really want to see.

@@KenickieXRizzoFan I just read through the poem, there is only one mention of shyness in the line "You would think there was nobody shyer", which is then followed up by "But his voice has been heard on the roof". When the phrase "you would think" is used, it's followed up by a common misconception. In the original poem and in most productions, Mr. Mistoffelees is very quiet, but not because he's nervous and shy, he just prefers some level of solitude most of the time.

How did i just realize that the cats all having human hands is really weird? Like, in the show, they're all human enough that their more human features, like hands, don't stand out too much. But in this, when misto's holding the cards and the dice, seeing his hands makes me uncomfortable.
Honestly this scene in the original had better effects lol and it didn’t have all this cgi 😂 like my boi Mistoffelees had lightning bolts coming from his hands and had sparkles created when he did magic, not to mention at the end of his song he literally does the most magical looking ‘disappearing ‘ scene. Lol
the one (1) good thing about misto in this movie compared to other versions of cats is that they give him a hat. everything else can flip right off.
I enjoyed the actor. He really did a fine job. Not a fan of them ripping him of his confidence, but he played it very well. Great acting. But this song was a true Bop in the play. The film had so many disruptions to the song my foot got frustrated trying to tap.

He is closer to how he was written in the poem then any other adaption. He's supposed to be super shy and aloof.

This version is a nervous wreck that is a complete misinterpretation of his character because someone saw the word shy in his bio and said, “All right, that’s his character!”
i still can NOT believe they made him straight. this was my favorite scene from the musical and they completely changed not only the scene but his entire character.
The relationship of Rum Tum Tugger and Mr. Mistoffelees is really just Friends. There's no sign that they want to be "more than Friends" (I watch the Stage Film and the Live Performance). Besides, Mr. Mistoffelees interact with Victoria many times. So, naturally, they can become couple.
But yeah, I do agree that Mr. Mistoffelees new personality is really different from the Stage Musical.

Say what you will about but mr misstoffee’s face when he hears dute is adorable. It’s like “oh my gosh I saved mum. (Plus I nicknamed this version of dute mum cat because I kinda forgot her name and she is pretty much their mum, l also nicknamed musical dute dad cat for the same reasons).
spikesenglishrose It’s Old Deuteronomy. 😊 One of the characters (Mungojerrie? I don’t remember now) called her “Deut”, which is lovely considering this is how fans of the musical call the cat for short. 😊

@@parakeetparakoot The Rebel Wilson outer fur is like some secret identity thing -- like when superheroes wear regular street clothes on top of their superhero uniforms. But because a normal cat usually wears nothing her disguise would be a fur coat looking like her natural hair, of course.
It's some spy drama cloak and dagger maneuver. Is that so hard to understand? Like when somebody peels off a lifelike mask in Mission Impossible to reveal they were someone completely different underneath. You wouldn't go, "ew, he just peeled his skin off and he has more skin on underneath!" No, it's clear the mask was just a mask.
I think the CGI was a bit rushed.

Laurie Davidson was the star of Will on TNT which was my favorite show when it aired in 2017... for obvious reasons I did not recognize him immediately 😂I hope the failure of this film doesn't harm the projection of his career, he was really just getting started!!

WTF!!!! This one was one of my favorite numbers of the musical. Mr Mistoffelees was powerful and cool, not just some insecure cat... furry... or whatever this is.
They made him anxious instead of aloof and I will not stand for it
I find it really frustrating that they didn't include any version of the conjuring turn, but still had Munkustrap reference it.
Since Cats is a usually a live show, no performance or cast is the same, but Mistoffelees is always a role which is mainly dance-based, and he always has an absolutely breathtaking conjuring turn.
It shows an inability in either the director or actor. Either the director was so stupid that he didn't realize what a staple the turn is, or yet another actor was incapable of preforming dance in a hollywood version of a *musical.* Most of the actors simply didn't have the experience or skillet to be in a musical, but were cast due to their influence.

This is actually a very good movie,I am ironically obsessed with this worst movie hahaha,am I the only one that feels this way? This scene and Skimbleshanks scene are the best in this movie. The actor that played Mr Mistoffelees really nailed it and the part where Victoria sings to support him was just wonderful.
I love it too and I was totally not expecting to... like I know it’s super weird and kind of ugly but I love it anyway?? All the actors and dancers did a fantastic job. So happy for my boy Mistoffelees in this scene 🥰

I actually like the relationship between mr. Mistoffelees and Victoria, I thought they were adorable. But unfortunately the rest of the movie was a mess. Especially by casting rebel Wilson and Judi Dench.

Out of all the nightmare fuel that this movie brings, I find Mr. Mistoffelees pretty adorable and well designed (maybe because he's wearing clothes). The acting's pretty nice too.
How did they manage to turn one of the biggest show stoppers where the big show-off cat bigs up his magical bff/friendly rival/boyfriend into... this? Seriously, I haven't watched Cats since I was 8 but I still remember liking THIS song the best because Misto was doing all sorts on stage, like a real magic show.
Considering the zeitgeist I was super surprised that they didn't take the underlying romance between Mistoffelees and Tugger and make it in-your-face loud in the movie.
I love the storyline with Victoria and Mr. Mistoffelees.

Imagine if he first unintentionally return Gus, and then find out that Old D. is on the plank right now, and with helping from Gus singing along with others, he finally returns Deuteronomy. Because he said earlier in the film that he is a big fan of Gus.

I think maybe the worst part is that when they're singing it seems like it's all in one continued breath. Like "ohwellneverwasthereeveracatsocleverasmagicalmrmistofelees" instead of taking a break and actually give it a beat
I believe the musical word you're looking for is staccato my friend. Not only are they not on beat and singing in one breath, they're not making their constants harsh or clear which ruins the chorus.
