    Thanks for the good review. You are one of the few reviewers who actually understand the elements of offroad driving. You asked: who is this car for? I have a deposit on one and hope to have it within 5 weeks. I will use it for overlanding. I currently have a 2006 100 series with AHC. This ups the game with refined systems and of course the lockers. My 100 series in today's dollars would cost over $106,000 today. So, with all the added features and capabilities, yes, it is expensive but in line and worth it. I have 282,000 miles today on my 100 series and still drives like a dream. I have no doubt that the 700h overtrail will run to that number and above. People should compare cost per year for the life of the vehicle and resale value vs only the up-front capital cost to truely understand the economics. This is an optimized 300 series and is the best and most reliable SUV in the world. I can't wait. BTW for heavy off roading, I would way rather have AHC than KDSS. To get 4 inch lift on demand, the advanced damping control for various conditions and excellent articulation wins in my book when doing serious off roading.

      Wonder if the common TNGA platform and general electronic architecture means that the front diff or locking components will be translatable to someone wanting to install in something like a 250, 4R, Tacoma etc. I know my F-150 is pretty lego bricks in that regard and I can bolt in many associated parts like that and be instantly good to go.

    • @chibbyylol
      @chibbyylol День тому +3

      @ maybe. The vehicles on the platform more or less share the same ‘DNA’ but there’s still some structural differences between them
      The Tacoma 4 4Runner having internal bump stops instead of external as well as the frames being thinner and smaller, smaller control arms and joints amongst other things compared to the GX, LX. Sequoia etc
      Don’t know if it’d be completely plug-and-play with features like that

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP День тому +1

      @ sure, though not dissimilar to my truck versus a Raptor, but I can swap over transfer case, front diff etc between them and it's all plug and play. I guess just depends on how the OEM approaches the commonality. Maybe we'll see over the next few years as people experiment.

    I wrote Lexus letters for years about coming out with a dedicated off road trim, and then the Overtrail came out. I wrote to them after the "off road" version of the LX 600 came out in Japan stating that if they came out with a "triple locker" LX that it would be king... They listened again. Lexus listens to its drivers.

      I mean, that doesn’t seem like a bad number at all given the price point and intended audience of the LX. Lexus’ money maker isn’t the LX, the LS or the LC. These are all just high end halo models for Lexus showing what they can do at the very premium end.
      Their money makers are things like the RX, NX, ES, and maybe the GX.

    Great video, Ryan. I'd totally get one of these if I had the money. Other than the cost there's almost nothing to dislike about it, other than the fuel tank. This is yet another instance where I get to bring up the fact that my Outback has a bigger tank than a Toyota that weighs 2,000lbs more.
    Also, a surprising number of haters in the comments, not sure I get the hate. This isn't a flashy BMW or Mercedes or Range Rover lease machine. This vehicle is like the previous generation LC and the previous generation Sequoia in that it's for the people who will buy and hold these for a decade plus. It's for those people who are fine with the upfront price because they don't want a flashy new daily driver every 2 years and they can afford it. You will see well-maintained examples of these on the road in 2035 or later, I guarantee it. It's just a different market, and Toyota has owned that market for decades.

      I have a ‘22 Outback Wilderness and live in Western Massachusetts. There was some bad snowfall last week when my wife gave birth to our second son. She had some frozen breast milk in our freezer at home, and my car was able to easily and uneventfully traverse the treacherous roads across town and back to get the milk and get back to the hospital.
      Other cars got stuck, and mine didn’t. So that’s what this Lexus looks like to me. It does need a larger fuel tank, but it’s built to keep your family sustained during rough times. I can’t afford it but I will try to

    I've been waiting for a review of the LC300. Nice job. Money no object, I would still choose the LC250. Among many other things, I just don't know what Toyota is thinking with those gargantuan grilles on all Lexuses. I know it's subjective but I just can't look at them. But like you say, it's a very different customer that they're going for over the LC250. Really glad you did this video. Thanks!

  • @uschi414
    @uschi414 День тому +4

    With respect to the fuel tank reserve, my speculation is that Toyota/Lexus engineers are being extremely conservative with the fuel pump lubrication/cooling. I believe it's an in-tank fuel pump and uses the gasoline to cool and lubricate the pump so they don't want customers repeatedly running the fuel tank very low. That could damage the pump and that's a lot of money to replace. So, instead, the calibrate their fuel gauge to maintain that 3-4 gallons of reserve to keep the fuel pump nice and safe. Your LC 250 does that, my GX 550 does that, and now the LX700h does that. You won't damage your fuel pump by driving the car way past the "0 miles" indicated on the instrument cluster once or twice, just don't do it very often.

    • @is6566
      @is6566 День тому

      All that explaining doesn’t give the reason why they just didn’t install a 5-10 gallons bigger tank while keeping that precious reserve for cooling that you talked about.

    On the spectrum of off road to luxury, personally I think the new Armada/Patrol Pro4x strikes the balance a bit better. No front locker, but much better approach angle and also over a foot of clearance with air suspension in higher settings. Very nice interior, uncompromsed cargo area as it’s not a hybrid, a much larger 23 gallon tank that should provide more range. And 30k cheaper. It’s a no brainer from my perspective.

  • @mamyandriamamonjisoa5147
    @mamyandriamamonjisoa5147 18 годин тому

The gx550 and lc250 have less robust and lower gauged machined components on the frame suspension and control arms to name a few. This was proven by group in Australia who examined parts from lc 300 and lc 250. The lx also does appear to have similar complications to the tundra and sequoia but again not the exact same. Toyota has seriously built the lx and lc 300 like a tank compared to rest of lineup. The lx and lc 300 reign supreme

    Great review. Regarding Off road, I'm asking myself, will I ever see even a single lx700 actually going off road ?? . not a pavement or easy trail that i can do on any standard 4x4 car but actuall off road trail that requres triple locks. This car profile looks so wide, long and low, i have doubts it can go any real trails without scratching its belly. And knowing how heavy this car is I just cannot imagine it in any mud trail. It will just get stuck on its belly, does not matter if you have 1, 2 or 3 lockers. The only scenario i would think of is when you have unlimited budget is to convert it to overland (supposing it will last forever as older land cruisers). Again, only when money is no issue. Otherwise, this is just very expensive , shiny car to showcase to your friends and never go on trail when it can get scratched or damaged.

    This go-anywhere large SUV has only a 17.9-gallon fuel tank. The reported real-world MPG on recent reviews is about 15.5 MPG. This means the driving range is about 279 miles. This is utterly ridiculous for a vehicle this large and capable. I don't understand why Toyota is so obsessed with offering tiny fuel tanks. Maybe it is a Japanese thing.
    I own a 2015 Tundra and I am getting more than 16 MPG from that V8. The driving range is also much higher than this new Lexus LX.

It’s doesn’t matter if it can adjust vehicle height, it doesn’t fix the approach angle smh. Plus the price is the same reason why the 200 series died in the US. It’s baffling how engineers and smart people test and develop this vehicle and think yes this is perfect all around.

    Toyota makes a lot of pointless cars, but this has to be the top of the list. They made it body on frame so it handles like a refrigerator on road, then they made it super expensive and luxury like AND gave it their most capable off-road tools which no one is going to use, ever, on this vehicle. Make it make sense that the 4Runner Trailhunter doesn't come with front lockers, but this does. Also, if this LX700h really is supposed to be their pinnacle of off-roading, why does it come with a no-brand off-the-shelf suspension compared to the branded, more capable Foxx or Old Man Emu like on the Tacoma/4Runner.

      You sound so uneducated you're practically bordering on being illiterate. The suspension is Lexus's proprietary AHC which is why it lowers 1 inch for freeway driving and lifts up 4 inches while in off road mode. Its about getting around not taking a freaking jump. You compared an active lifting and lowering system to off road shocks built for a completely different purpose further illustrating how little clue you have about a buyer's priorities at this price point.

    • @levskitoronto
      @levskitoronto День тому +1

      The hydraulic suspension that Toyota makes is leaps and bounds ahead of OME and Fox. Very expensive but for comfort, adjustability, durability and performance, combining all these qualities into one set of shocks it is much, much better than OME and Fox. Eventually when they wear out people replaced the hydraulic suspension with a regular one on the LX 470 and 570, but for about 300K kms it is exceptional.
      You also have to remember that the LX 700 is a Land Cruiser 300. So Toyota already has this model, they just made it cushier and nicer and slapped a Lexus logo onto it.
