Tom, The locking front differential is finally back in the Lexus/Toyota North American lineup. Now we need that feature to 'trickle down' to the more humble 4X4s. 🤞🤞
Always excellent, engaging, intelligent, balanced, informative, fun! Not sure if this is sold here in Australia, Toyota Land Cruisers are extremely extremely popular here. Imagine what this would cost in Aussie dollars - a "bomb"!!!!!!
@@DrivenCarReviewsAfter looking again at that console/HVAC/navigation-radio screen: sheesh, what a mess. Not at all attractive.I appreciate that there are physical controls for the heating but stacking one control box on top of another……
I had the pleasure of touring in the Outback in a Landcruiser, and it was surprising how it ate up all the bumps and ruts on a dirt road. Buttery smooth. The fun part was scrambling up the ladder to look at kangaroos and emus.
I did the same years ago shooting in Australia and had to drive it at one point. I can drive a clutch but it was the first time shifting with my left hand. It was... interesting.
Appreciate your philosophy of telling the hard truth, and so does Lexus I presume. If something needs improvement, I think they'd genuinely like to know. The door window button ergonomics is a good example for its' bad ergonomics. The slow rear seats could have been called out... who wants to HOLD the button the whole time, standing there like a moron.
Great review, except I do tire of the cliche that people won’t spend $120k and then take it off road. I realize most won’t, but many will. The thing about it being built for off road, is that doing so won’t trash it. Plenty of people drop $20-$30k or more into already expensive Wranglers, 4Runers, Broncos, etc. and then hit the trails. My 2024 F150 Raptor 37 package was nearly $100k and I have no reservations about taking it everywhere off road. I for one can’t wait to get my LX700 Overtrail and take it as far as it will go.
I do my best to not do cliches and in this case it isn't. First and second owners tend to not put their vehicle into tough duty. There are actual stats from the automakers to back that up. Like I said in the piece, more power to the folks that do. Nothing but respect that you're using your Raptor as intended. This concept applies to Porsche garage queens as well.
For most price matters, of those some will say it is worth it. And then there are some where price isn't really a consideration, for those it is only about if the shoe fits.
@@DrivenCarReviews that’s because they only sold what was the fully-loaded global full-sized LC in the US. We didn’t get the cheaper trims that used a V6. Those trims started at around $65k USD iirc. On top of having the Sequoia selling alongside it, the North American full-sized LC was a tough sell. No wonder they only sell the Prado in North America now.
I don't understand why they built that crazy complicated engine when the V8 got similar milage, better power, and had a fraction of the complexity. Makes no sense.
The Overland is what the Land Cruiser should have been. It shouldn't be included in the Lexus portfolio, it cheapens the brand with its down market appearance of earth tone paint and smaller dark wheels.
@@DrivenCarReviewsI don’t understand people’s taste these days. That “Earth” color paint looks like baby poo. And the non-metallic cement gray that many carmakers are pushing these days? It’s horrible. It is not as bad as the flat paint idiocy, but still, it looks terrible.

How come people no longer say "the" LX.....it used to be, I am going to "the" Prom...now it's just, I am going to "Prom"...same thing with car names now.....reviewers like this one now say, "LX is...." sounds uneducated and comical even
Talk for a living and you begin to get tired of saying "the". I can easily shave 10 seconds out of a video by eliminating unnecessary words like that. It's actually quite proper to drop the. Also, the opposite of uneducated. Think of the British. They "go to university" or "enter hospital". Also, many people say "they" referring to an automaker or company but it's "it". I had to buy my NYT editor ice cream if I used "they".
Tom reviews plenty of “real world” autos. For someone like me, who has no need for a monster SUV and doesn’t have the budget for a $100k car - but who loves all types of cars - reviews of expensive cars are escapist fun. If you like cars, it’s equally interesting to learn about an Aston Martin Vanquish as it is to learn about the Ford Maverick, and Tom is a fantastic journalist.
Could do without the cliches and platitudes. "If you can afford an LX, you can pay for the gas and won't mind paying subscriptions"... what utter rubbish. Paying for gas is not the point, the inconvenience is. It's not 'luxurious' having to stop and refill every 200 or 300 miles. As for subscriptions, again, it's not about $10 per month, it's about the non-sense of the subscription in the first place. You already bought the vehicle and now you have to keep paying??
“Lexus paid a lot for this animation, so I’m using it” 😂
Right?
Thanks for the great reviews Tom! Keep up the good work. -Nate in Boston.
Thanks Nate! Much appreciated. It's been a while since I've been to Boston. Love that city.

It won’t
Pay to play
If the hybrid system fails, it's an ICE? Reminds me of the Mitch Hedberg joke: "An escalator can never break. It can only become stairs."
Shocked, I tell you. Toyota providing torque figures!
I know. At first I thought I was looking at the LX600 specs. Imagine my surprise.
Every video’s comment section is 50% griping about the price, 35% griping about the screens, and 15% saying “I’ll keep my 2004 Honda Fit, thank you”
You forgot about losing the V8. That's 30% easy.
I can afford to look at one but cannot afford one unless I win the lottery.

The HVAC controls are kind of a mess. And the intrusion of the battery is not to my liking. Not that I’m going to spring for a $110K vehicle anyway.
At least you're honest about the pricing. But yeah, those batteries need to go somewhere.

Awesome review, thank you. Still think the center console needs a rework, hopefully in the 2028MY. Would still buy this over any Benz, Audi, BMW, RR.

It’s awesome, maybe I can buy a used one one day 😝
I was on a climbing expedition and my guide gushed about his 8 year old Lexus LX garage queen that was a bargain.
@ they are amazing vehicles, just a little out of reach financially for most Americans. But I would love an 8 year old LX any day.

Stop at 7-11 and it will

If you’re looking to go off-road, I wonder how the 4Runner compares at a fraction of the cost.
People always forget that, much of the time, it's the drivers skill that counts most.
Cannot store meat products !?! Deal breaker!
Agreed. I need something that keeps my filet mignon.
Just talking prices, this is why I’m not an automotive journalist. I wouldn’t be impartial, that price is ridiculous.
I report. You decide.

Great review!! "Luxo-barge" pretty much captures the aesthetic of this rather ugly, but well-engineered beast.
So… finally we have a true LC300 in the US via the 700h?
Yup. Thing is, Land Cruiser had become too expensive to sell at Toyota dealerships. So this makes sense.

It makes sense, new regulations require less cylinders and smaller engines, all automakers do the same there is no choice

FWIW, I suspect that Overtrail will make up 50% of LX sales. It's what moneyed people want these days.
I hear yah, but I think this thing looks awesome with the earth tone or the Nori Green and black wheels.
@@DrivenCarReviews Let's check in a year
@@toddgersh Still, I'd rather have this as the Land Cruiser and keep Lexus as a pure luxury brand. I'd eliminate the GX version as well.
@@toddgersh Nori Green is a great color
An LX GX comparison would be informative. The GX is supposed to be the new Land Cruiser.
I don't do comparos FWIW, and off-loading isn't my specialty. GX is the Land Cruiser 250 (Prado) LX is "the real" Land Cruiser 300 Series.
So much for the “reliable” Toyota hybrid system. What a crock from Toyota PR. Offroad EV trucks get the job done just fine.
That Earth paint color is horrible. And that hybrid battery ruins the cargo room. That 700h would not be a suitable replacement for my LX 570.
Nearly everyone at the event gushed over the Earth paint FYI.
