  • Last winter I camped at Olallie Lake and wanted to see what the lake is like in the summer - in one word, beautiful. Join me as I hike to Olallie Lake in the Washington Cascade mountains, set up my camping hammock, relax by the lake, and get woken up by owls.

    You seem to do all the hikes we want to or have already done. Nice spot! I love hammock camping where no tent could possibly go. I never would have thought of backpacking Olalie. Far too busy a trailhead for my tastes. Guessing mid-week is better. Great video! You reminded me it is time to break out the alcohol stove now that it's Fall.

      Thanks! The best camping locations at Olallie are at the far end of the lake, at least, in my opinion, they are the best. 😀 And if you are hammocking, there's more options available.

    Nice video. I’ll be sure to film that little wooden bridge if I ever hike this trail. I don’t want to get arrested. What a great view at the alpine lake. You certainly had a nice camping spot. 👍

      That bridge is like the little red cabin at Franklin Falls, you have to photograph or film it for social media. 😎

    I noticed you have quite a few carabiners in your setup. I can send you some soft shackles to try out if you like!

      @amputeeoutdoors  8 днів тому

      Thanks Jeff. I tried soft shackles a couple of years ago and maybe it was the material (I think it was Dyneema) I used but I found them to be slippery when wet (lots of rain in the PNW) and would slip loose. What are your soft shackles made of?

    Did you make it out bro? Did you know Sasquatch are often mistaken for owls though? Another great hike. Awesome views!

      That was my first thought when I heard the owls across the lake. 😅 It was a great place to spend a day and just relax.

    Hi Glenn, that was a great video from you, I absolutely love it. The calm and serenity with which you travel is evidence of your experience in camping and mountaineering. Filming so casually and then telling such a great story. That was really exciting. Your equipment corresponds to the material used here in Germany, from the Trangia cooker to the ultralight cookware.
    But the best thing was the location right on the lake with such a great view. Even if the owl bothered you a bit, don't you actually have any mosquitoes? They're usually so annoying on the water and I'm always afraid that they'll stab me in the open stump at night, then every step can become torture. I would like to thank you very much for your video and of course give a big thumbs up, best regards, Bernd

    • @amputeeoutdoors
      @amputeeoutdoors  9 місяців тому

      Thanks Bernd! Mosquitos aren't that frequent in the mountains here, partially due to the breeze coming of the lakes. I do take my time filming. I want to give the audience the feel that they are there with me.
