this is the first video that I've came across from an expert that admits that it can actually be painful and not just "crampy". thank you for your honesty.
I had my hsg done today. My experience was positive, so I wanted to share it immediately after coming back, so that my experience could help all the ladies out there. I had taken 1000mg tylenol and 800mg motrin 1hr before the procedure. I was extremely nervous about the procedure. But honestly, it is really not that bad as I had expected. For me, the most discomfort was during the insertion of the speculum. The injection of the contrast did give me some pretty bad cramp, but trust me, it was over in seconds before I could react to the cramp. I would suggest not getting intimidated by the negative experiences, just go for it. It is painful but very tolerable for most women, because it is basically a severe but short-lived period cramp which we handle most months. Let the force be with you, my beautiful ladies❤
I just wanted to come on to let some women know that my test was PAINLESS. All I did was take 2 extra strength ibuprofen and I literally didnt feel a thing. My radiologist was great. The worst part was inserting the speculum. I read tons of comments on youtube and started to get nervous about the pain, but I truly didnt feel ANYTHING. So ladies, all people are different and perhaps your experience will not be painful. Also, I had no cramping or bleeding afterward. I got my test on day 5 of my cycle and my results came back in my favor. Fallopian tubes clear! I did the test as part of my pre-conception planning. Cheers to everyone! (I promise you it didnt hurt. Just take some otc motrin and you should be fine)
My hsg was painless thank God. I took two Advil prior and the doctors were so knowledgeable. They got all the air bubbles out the syringe and blew up the balloon a few times before putting it in me to get rid of excess air. They said this helps eliminate pain. I didn’t experience any cramping either so I’m grateful
So I had an HSG done 4 yrs ago & it was so painful, my body got super tense & I just couldn’t bear it. I had another one done today 4 yrs later but this time I was sedated & the Dr approved me getting one done under light sedation & thankfully I was put under since I did have blockage & they needed to apply pressure. Not sure why this test isn’t offered with the option of getting sedated. I wasn’t aware you can get put under sedation but so thankful that my Dr approved it. Ladies def ask your Drs about getting it done with sedation. 😊
My wife had the test recently and it was awful.... We asked the doctor if it is painfull or not and the answer was that may cause minimum discomfort in case of blocked tubes...of course we changed doctor as we consider that this statement is a violation of the patient rights!! . The test is painful or not depending on the individual... you cant know in advance how the uterus will react to the die infusion... morover depending on the anatomy, the insertion of the injector may be more or less painfull. Unfortunately we discovered during the process that the examination could be done under light anesthesia at an additional minimal cost.... It is not a shame to ask anesthesia !! it s not worse than the extreme pain this exam can cause.... Be aware that if you cannot handle the pain and keep your body stable the x rays cannot be taken and you may be asked to take again the exam....extra radiation ...vs light anesthesia just in case... I conclude that all is about time management to the hospital....some women experience no pain at all....the vast majority experience medium cramping ...for some is just extremly painfull and few may also pass out as the pain may reach extreme levels ....even worse than birthgiving. In fact if most women chose anesthesia the handling time of the patient after the exam ....may reach 30 minutes...without anesthesia even if the patient passes out can walk out almost immediately after the exam.... So be informed and be aware of your stamina.... for those that will say....women can handle labor pain... why not an HSG i will answer that ....labor proceed gradually and the body slowly addapt to the cramping ... die infusion may lead to extreme cramping in just a few seconds....and of course the expectation during childbirth ...is by itself a nice incentive ....such incentive during HSG does not exist...just the stress of the result.
@@swabogam high dear...its your right to ask anesthesia. Irs not complete sleep as for surgery...its just light anesthesia for some minutes. Usually it involves some.extra cost. The doctors do not propose anesthesia for cost and time management as patients need some treatment for 30 minutes.after the exam...without anesthesia even if you experience extreme pain and even if you pass out you can leave hospiral immediately... Anesthesia needs time after the exam before to leave...it s your right to do it with anesthesia as nobidy can tell you before the exam if it will be painfull or not!!. If you want to avoid anesthesia consider to take not the classical hsg but sono -ultrasound salpingogram. Its a new method with a softer catheter and the dye is no iodin but water based. Sono do not stess the dye to pass so hard as normal hsg . Usually this method is much painless at least if there are not blockages....but still in case there is some.blockage.may also lead to extreme pain!!.for me just ask anesthesia....unless you can handle sharp pain and still remain stable for the x rays to be taken. Its not full sleep...just semi sedation .

I had this done and it was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my entire life. We had to stop at the end because I was going to lose consciousness. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that this procedure is painless.
Just wanted to share my experience! I had this test today. I was terrified from listening to other ppl. So I called my dr and requested pain medication! I took an 800mg Ibuprofen and I didn’t feel anything but small cramps from the liquid and I felt him pulling the balloon part out. It was virtually pain free! Afterwards I wore a pad bc I had spotting and clear liquid coming out. I had a radiologist do my procedure too. Take your pain meds one hour before and just try to relax.
Had an HSG today. I forgot to take medication before and I was really nervous, but it really wasn’t bad. It felt like intense period cramps that came on very suddenly but it wasn’t bad and my doctor was super fast.
Thank you for the tips and 411. I just had my first diagnostic appointment today after a year of trying with no baby. My doctor suggested an hsg after a couple other tests. Really wanting to know ahead of time what I can expect so this was very helpful!
A very small cramp like feeling during the procedure but it was nothing compared to regular period cramps. Had 400mg advil one hour prior to procedure. Had no bleeding nor cramps afterwards.
Just had a SONO yesterday, which is supposed to be the less painful procedure. It felt as if I was giving birth to a transformer. I found out the reason for that is, I have a snug cervix and they had to use something called the spreader. Fun times. Tomorrow is my HSG... not gonna lie, I'm not looking forward to it.
@@EggWhisperer So an update from today. I hand an SHG this morning, but I followed your advice and took some pain meds before my appointment, also I had a different doctor that seemed a bit more gentle and perhaps the horrible expectations made this experience much easier. Overall it wasn't as bad as my SONO. Got some good news as well so that made it all worth it.
After 3 miscarriages (one that was very painful) they’ve told me I need this done. I had a traumatic experience with a Foley catheter. Worse than labor pain by far. I’m not sure if it will be a similar experience but I’m terrified! Thank you for this. I’m going to ask for pain medication now.
Just had mine 3hrs ago. PAINFUL. Great to hear some women are possible unfortunately that was not the case for me. In bed now with a heat pack on and ibuprofen has been taken. Results were fantastic but process is crap!!
I think that whether you experience pain or not is due to your particular issue and the physician techniques as well. I just did my first one last week. My Dr. was wonderful but I will not say that it was painless. They numbed the area and told me that I shouldn't feel it but I did feel some moderate cramping type pain and lots of pressure. Towards the end I felt some pinching. I would describe as very uncomfortable but not that painful. My pain tolerance is very high though. All in all maybe 20 minutes of this. At the end it was all for nothing. He tried 3 times and was unable to obtain any images saying that I had dye spill. He tried using different techniques as shown here I guess because I heard him switch to catheter but of course I couldn't see anything. So now I'm worried about my situation. Results of hysterscopy in 2 weeks.
