This was great. Please make this a regular thing, if you have the time. Different jazz standard each time, walk idea, solo idea, bit of explanation, perfect. It's so hard to find electric bass-centric approaches to jazz standards, and a lot of the time when it comes to transcribing from recordings - and there aren't many that feature electric bass - the solos can be way out there and not too useful from a learning perspective.

Thanks for the encouragement and I'm glad you found it useful! I've been planning on doing this much more at BassEducation but I'll get some up here on UA-cam as well when they roll out

@@DamianErskineBass If it's going to be a regular feature on your site, I'll gladly join up, it's totally what I'm looking for. Thanks again.

@@qbass00 It's definitely been a recent focus. There is a ton of content of all kind, but this is the second video like this that I've done (the other breaking down some groove solo clips). Doing another like this very soon as well. I don't know that I'll do dozens of these, but it's a nice addendum to all of the other lessons on the site as it deals with the context of what we study... I'm definitely planning on more.

Thank you. I am now trying to really learn how to play bass instead of taking it, like I have the last 20 something years. This is so above my level but I understand. I would not be able to say that last year.
    Still learning.

hey! every sheet i stumble upon has d minor on bar 12 but the original recording of the tune and the stan getz version clearly resolve on d major in the first 2 beats and then d minor on the last 2

Great content- very honest analyst and unprententious and open- which I respect about Damian.. whats the approach on the e-7b5 a7 d minor (minor 251)
what are you thinking in these examples - what is the approach in term sof scale or chord tones Damian on that
    ?

I hit you up on IG with an answer but thought I'd leave on here as well (for anybody cruising the comments). There are so many ways to handle altered chords but, generally speaking, I tend to be very chord tone focused and pay special attention to those notes resolving by a half-step from chord to chord. I likely outlines the Eø7 by focusing on the Bb moving to an A or the D to C#... The A7b9 chord was likely either envisioned as a Bb diminished or by simply playing Mixolydian b2, b6 (5th mode harmonic minor... I like that sound). Paying special attention to the leading tones again as it resolves to D-7 (C# to the D, E to the F,... while also possibly using the common tones (A becoming the 5th of D-7) to try and creating a unifying sound through the chords... That's my general approach anyway

    Great vidéo!
If i may : the backing track is a little too loud over the bass sound...
