Plumbella did a new shell challenge but inverted if that makes sense? So they put the furniture and you’re meant to build the walls, might be interesting for you to try if you like!
yeah, the "tight" floorplans of older houses are just much easier to heat before hvac became the standard. a series of smaller rooms connected by corridors can be warmed up in sections or opened up in sections to allow for airflow. that way you don't have to heat parts of the house you're not using and it's more efficient on fuel. farmhouses constructed with stone or earth have to compensate somewhat for the lack of insulation in the walls by using this strategy. i love earthen building so i have a lot more to say on passive + radiant heating, but since this is a sims vid, i'll refrain. i just like knowing the practical details behind a design aesthetic.

i made a cafeteria with that shell! im entering the sims 4 building world and that challenges is the best way to know more 'bout creative ways to decorate and do some lots. love it!
My go to solution to "How the heck am I supposed to roof this" is to add a balcony. Usually when I do a shell challenge they end up with like five balconies 😂
@@francinesmith1889 No, you can't add external walls (or edit Simsie's existing walls), but half-walls or fence, which you'd probably use for balcony, are okay. Simsie talk about this many times in recent shell challenges and maybe also on twitch.
We love painful shell challenges 😩 I tried making one into a dog park a year or two ago and the roof made me so mad that I rage quit and cried for a bit Anyways, gonna try this one 😎
I wish they would just give us a flat roof option. I know you can use platforms, but you can't put the roof shingles on them. . . It's a small request, but seeing as Dine Out is still glitchy, maybe we'll get them in Sims 7. lol
I'm about 75% done on my build, I'm excited to see what everybody else makes! This will be my first shell challenge, it's so much fun and challenging :) Also I like watching the VODs, but Twitch scares me lol EDIT: I've finished the build! i love shell challenges because they really help me go outside my comfort zone and practice building. i don't start them expecting to finish them on time or for you to tour them, its just fun.
Simsie, do you think you can try doing Deligracys “do not move these objects” challenge? She posted a video kind of explaining how it work & what she did lol
Looking at the shell, I honestly would not have anticipated what you were able to create! It is so cozy, and has such a warm country living vibe. The kitchen honestly made me think of my childhood and learning to bake and cook with my Grandma, so it was nice that the build brought out some real life feelings :) incredible job!
This is such an amazing floor plan and works so well. Totally get what you mean by old British house. As a Brit it’s weird to me to see so many open floor plans (the closest we get is archways between distinct rooms), I just love it !! I actually love where the stairs are as well, it feels so realistic having them right by the door and the basement ones work well! I’ve never seen a house with a basement in the uk but it feels like the most real way of doing it putting it by the kitchen !
this build ended up being one of my favorites i’ve ever made! it only took 5 hours but worth every minute!! thank you for all you do for this community simsie 🤗
I don't build in Sims, apart from when you do a shell challenge. I LOVE shell challenges, it's so much fun to figure out what on earth you can do with a shape like that. Thankyou for doing another one I almost out loud screamed.
this is honestly so cute! I can just picture a grandma and grandpa with their grand babies in this house ❤️ and I actually love the lil “dino leg” area!
I'm British and work on a farm, I've been invited into the farmhouse to have lunch or help with various jobs (like sorting out stuff in the attic or admin jobs in the office) and honestly the tiny little rooms in weird places is very accurate! And interestingly I was talking to the farmer, who's family have lived at the farm for over 100 years, and he said that the farm was likely built in the 1500s during the enclosures act (where they officially fenced off farmland) And the farmhouse itself, which they still live in today, was built around 1670!
i'm a bit intimidated with shell challenges bc idk how make a proper floor plan and i typically go for an open one instead of rooms and so i do room shell challenges for now but seeing the results of these shell challenges inspires me!!
I made a post-apocalyptic farm out of the shell. Tried a modern-styled house first but it just wasnt working with the floor plan and I bulldozed it and did something completely different. I did chance a part of the cellar because for me it was just a fun thing and I didn't do it for the livestream tour but just for fun. I really love doing shell challenges even if it's just for my own amusement. So thanks for that simsie :)
I've seen some weird stuff on HGTV & this house was bringing to mind some of those, the ones that pop up on House Hunters & other similar shows where there's some of the weirdest looking & shaped rooms you wouldn't know what to do with. I enjoyed this so much, very nice looking in the end.
You should do the Amish challenge!! They have it on tumblr but basically you have to have all of new crest as off the grid farms with large Amish families
*sims challenge:* every day you randomise a room size, budget, shape and type and you have to slowly piece together a mesh of rooms for a house, like the Winchester Mystery House
Honestly, I was amazed with your build. Since I've veen watching your videos a lot and your streams as well, I kinda know what to expect when you build houses but this looks so good! All your builds are amazing by the way, I just feel like you're improving so much and this build proves it.
i did a victorian style house too! definitely difficult but i enjoyed it and i’m pretty happy with the result :) obviously there are things i would change/make better but i’m pretty new to building so i think it went alright
I did somethings I don't usually do in my build so that was fun! I didn't end up landscaping but my house is 4bed 2bath which isn't too bad. I even had a laundry room! Always love to participate!!
I never really do shell challenges but I struggle with house shapes(?) but I felt a bit inspired and even made a sim to go along with the house. I might even do a let's play with it.
You did an amazing job with this shell. The house has a very warm, home feeling. I love it! Whenever I start playing on the Sims 4, I want to use this house as a family home
I really enjoyed this shell! I was planning to make a house but I put it down on a lot that used to have a nightclub on and something glitched so that I couldn't change the lot type, so I decided to just go with it and ended up building a teen's nightclub/hangout space! I never usually build community lots so it was fun to do something a bit different.
Simsie! You should scroll through twitter and find other simmers shell challenges and try them out either on stream or on youtube or both! It would be a neat challenge for you to try shells you haven’t created. Idk, just a cool idea for you 🧡
Okay so I did my shell build before you posted this... and I thought I was being unique... but I did the same chimney thing in the same spot and had the build oriented the same way with the front door in the same spot... ugh. :)
I did this one and I loved it!!! I made a cute little modern home and it’s my favorite house I’ve ever made. I made it a family home with platforms and stuff. And I made the basement a little apartment type area. I did that because in my mind maybe your sims kid that’s a young adult lives down there

Before I started building building, I downloaded random shells from the gallery. I was too afraid to building my on my own. Slowly but surely I got up enough nerve to actually build. Never have I ever used a shell from lilsimsie. Her shells are just to complicated for my skills. She has very very talented builders in her community.
I started this challenge at the beginning of the month, lost my train of thought, and now I'm going to wait for a new one to take part in since I can't think of anything else.
I'm not particularly good at making up a house shell that actually looks good, I prefer just furnishing and decorating existing houses, so shell challenges are my favourite thing ever
This is the first one I’m participating in, and I have no idea how you managed to make it look so big!! Fitting the stairs in was a nightmare so I opted for a ladder to the basement. At least for once roofing was decent enough
Simsie!! Bestie! Oh my God :) I'm so happy that you finally made a house that has a proper entry room and there is not a bathroom off of it! This is definetly a very realistic layout I like in the Sims :)
new build challenge idea, every room is a different room. Now you may think that's a normal house, except with this, you put all the necessary rooms one would need in a house, (and maybe a few extras) and each time you spin you have to add that room to the build, but you don't remove it from the wheel once it's built, it stays on the wheel. So either a) you keep spinning until you get one of each room on the wheel OR b) you give yourself a certain amount of spins and what you get is what you get, whether it's functional or not! Or similarly, the same thing except you can remove the room once it's been picked (except if you want multiple of a room put it that many times on the wheel) but you have to build it in the order it's picked by the wheel.
I saw you post the shell and immediately got inspired to make that basement into the living room, and I spent a few hours making it into a modern suburban family home with lots of entertaining space, for a cute lesbian couple and their children
I do have a question about the shell challenges are we able to just close off those one by one bump outs and fill them with platforms if we can’t think of something to do?

yeah, the "tight" floorplans of older houses are just much easier to heat before hvac became the standard. a series of smaller rooms connected by corridors can be warmed up in sections or opened up in sections to allow for airflow. that way you don't have to heat parts of the house you're not using and it's more efficient on fuel. farmhouses constructed with stone or earth have to compensate somewhat for the lack of insulation in the walls by using this strategy. i love earthen building so i have a lot more to say on passive + radiant heating, but since this is a sims vid, i'll refrain. i just like knowing the practical details behind a design aesthetic.
