Dr. Amy and Ashley: Weeks 4-8 recovery exercises after Total Hip Replacement
Вставка

- Arthritis causes hip pain with walking. Total hip replacement surgery often the best option after shots and pills fail to work. Minimally invasive hip replacement surgeries like Anterior and SuperPATH have replaced the traditional approach. These surgeries are minimally invasive, but they still are surgery. A good recovery is essential! For the first four weeks after total hip replacement surgery, your main activity is walking. At four weeks you are ready for more! Dr. Amy and Ashley discuss the exercises you need to be doing to strengthen the muscles around your new hip. Physical therapy is not required after anterior or superPATH total hip replacement. However, you need to do your part to get the best result possible. That means getting as strong as you can to help your new hip. A follow-up video for weeks 8-12 is your next stop!
40 days passed after my surgery. I do not use stick for short distances. Use only one stick for long distances for safety only. Build up your butt, hip and knee muscles going to fitness gym using exercise therapy, of course monitored by their physician. I am 47. Twenty years I was limping and afraid to go to surgery. This pain after surgery is nothing compare to mine throughout twenty years. Good luck to everyone.
Great advice! Thanks for sharing!
Ms. Amy turn the music down next time please
Sorry!
The music was fine!
7 weeks post op. Just found this today. Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
Thank you for doing this
It means a lot .......from India with love
Music is too loud
Working on it. Thanks for the feedback. Sorry.
I’m at week 5 now , at day 10 I started riding the bike twice a day for 5-10 min
Week 2 I started going to gym , just doing upper body and getting the blood flowing felt really good
Now I work out 5 days a week
Light legs ( only body weight squats) , assault bike , planks and abs and Roman chair .
Feels much better than before surgery already
Looking forward to water skiing this summer
Strong work! You've got this!
Good info but the background music is too loud. It’s difficult to hear the instruction.
Would be better there was no music. It is difficult to hear as the music is tooooo loud…….
Kill the music please
Agree, the music is pointless, annoying & makes it difficult to hear what she’s saying. I gave up on it half way through & looked for another video.
Ah, so sorry. We can't change the music without taking down the video. We promise not to do it again.
Be careful. Heel slides sitting up breaks hip precautions taking hip flexion past 90 degrees.
Thanks for the tip!
Great video except for loud music.
Thanks for sharing this video. I am 5 weeks out and walking without a cane or walker. May I suggest you give the option to mute the background music in the video. It is very distracting. Thanks again!!
Great suggestion! Glad to hear you are doing so well. Keep up the good work! What approach did you have? Posterior or minimally invasive?
Please can you remove the music it makes it impossible for me to hear your information? Thank you
Please turn down the background music because it's very hard to hear the information.😮
Had my right hip replaced 20 days back
How is it going bro?
Do you feel good and can lead a total normal life like others?
My surgery is going to be scheduled too.
Today is my 12th day after a TRHP..the first week obviously uncomfortable.. yesterday out shopping one crutch.. got a bit emotional whilst shopping..realised I wasn't limping such a happy feeling..after limping for almost 4yrs.. Hopefully things going to be much better..
You are through the hardest part! Great job! I would love to know what you do with the second chance life has given you! Any big resolutions for new y ears?
Sooo going to change my life around and that starts tomorrow.. tonite however is going to be a quiet one.. I prefer new years day than the eve.. Have a good one.🍻🏴
Hang in there I’m in week 4 myself. I’m feeling better. You will get better soon too.
Thanks but I can't hear much with the music 😢
This has been really helpful thank you ladies. I will ask therapist about leg raises.
Thanks!
Music is too LOUD
I think it would be better with NO music. It’s very distracting and makes it hard to hear you. Thanks.
The background music is distracting and makes it difficult to pay attention to your words
Cant hear for music
TIP: Watch your vlogs and kill the music. We want to hear you, not some crap music. Using the towel she was going beyond 90 degrees at the hip, but you have apparently done anterior or SuperPATH, right?
Thanks for the comment!
Why this music???? Can’t hear what you said
Even without the annoying background music the sound has to be improved to incre3ase the value of your presentation.
Great video but the music is really distracting - music is not necessary and it's too loud.
The music is too loud,
Can’t hear words
Good stuff but not a good mix;music in stereo, room mike in mono and too low in volume. Also, the music is on a crappy loop, like being on hold. Did they have a producer?
I was very surprised to see you recommend an exercise (hip slides; the second one shown) which brought the thigh well up inside 90 degrees from your torso. This is rule-number-one for hip surgery: NEVER do this until cleared by your surgeon, and that's likely to be up to 12 weeks after surgery.
Great point! Our surgeons are all minimally invasive so the surgery itself doesn't substantially weaken the hip joint. Sadly, many people are still having the legacy posterior approach. In "your mother's hip replacement" surgery, the posterior approach, the hip is so weak you can do real damage after surgery.
@@hip-replacementinfo6511 Yep, that's a fair point. However, to be picky, I did say hip surgery, rather than hip replacment. This includes resurfacing, and as far as I am aware, this can ONLY be done with a posterior approach. And of course, the vast majority of hip replacements here in the UK are done using the posterior approach.
do it without towel whilst on your back
The 90° precaution for THA depends on surgical approach. I had a muscle sparing Anterior approach and have No Post Op movement restrictions. So-“it depends”. ;-)
I’m had anterior approach w zero restrictions 10 weeks ago and I’ve been squatted bending since a few days post surgery . Since week 7 I’ve been doing deadlifts , squats , lunges ,10 km hikes in the mountains , rowing machine , elliptical, , box jumps , skipping . What fabulous surgery , essentially no post op pain in comparison to arthritis pain , used a cane for about 6/7 days . I feel 20 yrs younger . I waited too long to get it done in hindsight
Question. I had knee replacement a year ago and now hip replacement. Having a lot of problems after sitting for a while. It only last the first 10 steps but really hurts during that time. Six weeks ago on hip. Any suggestions? Thks. Mike B
Hm. This seems like a good problem for a physical therapist to solve. Are you in therapy?
turn off the background music, little annoying.
Oops. Sorry you didn't like it.
Excellent video, but I could have done without the background music all the way through the video. Very distracting.
Sorry about that
The music is very disturbing !
Sorry.
Music to loud
Please stop the background noise. I can not hear you properly
Those seem like day 4-8 exercises not week 4-8 ?
It's supposed to be 4-8 weeks after surgery.

Technology today is amazing !

A lot of hard work but worth it !
@@hip-replacementinfo6511yes, that's what my instructions are
Good tutorial spoilt by musac😢
that music is very annoying, distracts from what you're saying,
