Welcome to Modern Homestead Alaska. We are located in South Central Alaska near the town of Wasilla. Living in Alaska and building our dream of “modern Homesteading” through the wilds of winter and the long summer days. We started building our Modern Homestead in 2021. We have since completed the upper levels of our home. Built a 16x16 foot chicken coop that dreams are made of. Our chicken ladies live in luxury as they view the beautiful lake from large windows inside the beautiful coop. We raise our own poultry, hunt for our food. We are avid fisherman And woman. We also built an amazing and beautiful wood shed. We have great big garden planes for the future. Join us as we dream big dreams and live everyday working hard to accomplish them.

I say a milk cow, possibly some hogs, but with hay, most likely cattle. You guy are doing an amazing job!
Nice side note hogs would need hay here and that’s strange to me. But to keep the warm and dry. But both of these are animals we have always had so they make for great guesses.

Hi Jessica, as everyone else has said what a lovely barn this is, I am in total agreement with them. I am not guessing a milk cow....yet that would be nice, but it has to be milked twice a day.......Plus, nobody would have a cow on a wooden floor. (due to pee and poop). So, I am not sure what you might have it built for. Plus, there is no pasture area. Goats would chew the heck out of the pine boards......Right now, I am at a loss. But, I'm chewing on it !!! I'm going with a cow or bull. That's what ya'll know, or sheep maybe goats to keep the brush down in the forest area. Oh boy I have no clue it could be anything lol um excited to see though.

A milk cow Blue is so cute I thought that it was going to be a shop for Aaron when you guys was having the clearing done back in the spring
Aaron’s shop will go where the boat sits now. We just honestly couldn’t get to the electric and concrete work with the rain. The shop will end up being a big todo. But I did originally clear the spot the barn is for a green house. But we moved that next to the garden. (In our hopes and dreams) that’s not built yet either.

I'm guessing sheep. My husband and I worked on extending our woodshed last month. Lots of Sonotubes, Simpson brackets, nail guns, sawing, blocking, cantilevers, perlins, roofing, drip edges, etc., etc. We ran out of 2x6s, but at a good stopping point, so we'll finish it next build season (hopefully a wee bit dryer than this last one🤞).

Well the build is turning out great even with Jess changing her mind midway through...Aaron is being challenged, yet just plugs away at it. Changing from a metal structure to wood, is structurally a whole different ballgame. Jess quit changing your mind! Lol😂 Now what is going to occupy this space? I'm torn between a milk cow, or nanny goats. Love the new pup, so cute.

Well….Momma thinks a milk cow or feeder calf. The stall walls are not built out enough for a horse. But a goat would be at home there too!

Aaron must be used to or expect your tendency to change canoes in mid stream! He seems to just power on with a new plan.

lol Aaron is so funny. I’m pretty bad about “you know what would look better!” This time it was a matter of getting the color metal I wanted. I couldn’t get in time. Then when the roof was not the color I wanted I learned I can paint it! lol now we are where we are at. Thank you momma!

It’s getting tied down. We built the coop and wood shed similar but with floors in them. But we don’t want the pee and poo of animals destroying a floor.
