      @@AnneettaLife Madonna’s always going to be a blueprint for many pop artists, but as mentioned in the video, Dua’s not someone who does what exactly Madonna did to call for attention, instead she does it her own way.
      Yes, she didn’t invent disco-pop, but hers isn’t comparable to that of Madonna’s, Lady Gaga’s or even Kylie’s.
      My point is she’s making something different yet something special, and she’s only getting started.

    Honesly,Future Nostalgia was one of the greatest pop albums of 2020,she had a good impact on her first album. I just hope her next album will be amazing as the second album. Dua lipa is one the greatest pop artist in her generation. She needs to find her own artistry for the era and i know she will be next big thing. To be honest, I’m quite worried about Dua’s next steps. Future Nostalgia is a very good album, and I can’t see her topping it. However, the release of some of the B-sides from Future Nostalgia have really made me realise that Dua’s appeal at the moment really is her disco-pop sound. For example, We’re Good and Fever were quite lacklustre songs compared to any song off of Future Nostalgia, and they also happened to be far less disco influenced. Her debut was good for a debut album, but if she dropped a similar album for her 3rd album, it will be received as a step back by most listeners. She’s in a tricky situation here of either being criticised for not changing enough (if she sticks with the disco-pop music), or landing on the side of being too generic (if she releases music that sounds like her debut). I’m hoping for the best though, since she is such a talented artist.

      Fr, unless she swaps genres it's going to be really hard for her to have another future nostalga type hit, as in the quality of the music and sales massively, or at least substantially increase.

      @jalennelson6821 2 роки тому +130

      @@Emerald_Forge I don’t really blame her for wanting to move away from disco, as much as I love it. She doesn’t want to get pigeonholed in that genre forever and wants to do different things. I hope she does something like Nelly Furtado 3rd album Loose, with a dance-pop and R&B sound. Or 2000s bubblegum pop Britney inspired sound, but with an edge. Or something more soul like Amy Winehouse with a poppier production.
      The possibilities are endless, but I do feel like she’s gonna be pulling inspiration from 2000s music.

    It’s probably harder for an American to understand, but as someone from the UK, Dua Lipa is the current BPG. She’s had a massive debut era, even bigger second era abs multiple smash collaborations in between. She’s like a UK Rihanna. That said I do acknowledge she needs to cement her persona and who she is artistically. Her debut could’ve been a fluke, but she cemented her status to a degree, but not fully on FN. Album 3 is where she will not only need to cement a fan base but curate a following across the GP and other ventures like fashion. I have faith after FN, she knows what she’s doing. Tracks like We’re good were simply to see if people would connect with that direction, it didn’t so I can’t see that sound returning.

    Her next era, imo, should be either a Nelly Furtado type era wheres she links up with Timbaland/Pharell for some late 90's/2000's style production [I think she could pull it off. It would give her the ability to solidify her image as the female The weeknd/Bruno Mars by playing off older styles and keep her ahead of the curve for the upcoming 2000's nostagia we'll see more of this decade]. OR a more rock inspired album [Idk if she'll go with a retro 80's sound just because Miley just did that with Plastic Hearts, but she did sound amzing on Prisoner. She could pull of pop-punk if she wanted to.]

I was thinking about Britney's "I'm a slave 4 U' or like Nelly Furtado's 'Say it right' or "Promiscuous" for example. All classic pop songs and not whitewashed or trying to be anything it's not IMO. This is an interesting conversation. Everything about the Future nostalgia album and era was brilliant. I liked her first album, but she really reinvented herself from the ground up with her sophomore LP. She is ALREADY an international pop star - just look at her streaming numbers! But I do think Dua will have to switch it up to bring herself to that even higher level. I think people would get bored if she does more disco pop. The 90s/2000s pop route make sense to me. But I’m curious to see what SHE has in mind, and I want to see more of who she is as an artist. I don’t understand why y’all are looking at her deluxe album tracks as if they are a sign of the musical direction she wants to go. They are simple leftover tracks - there’s a reason they are deluxe and leftover, because they obviously aren’t as good as the standard album. That being said, both We’re Good and Fever are great tracks. Fever is a little more generic and fun. But I can definitely see Dua because a Rihanna level hitmaker.

      A dance pop era would make sense, it’s a natural progression from disco and it fits her voice. I'd love for her do something like Kylies Fever that’s got less literal disco influences or something like Nelly Furtado 3rd album Loose, with a dance-pop and R&B sound. Or 2000s bubblegum pop Britney inspired sound, but with an edge. Or something more soul like Amy Winehouse with a poppier production.

    personally, in my opinion, I can see dua lipa pulling off a very controversial album next time around, she stated in an interview that it's gonna be " completely different. " dua is a businesswoman, her 2 albums, had almost every song as good to be a single, so she knows when to not do certain things, & when some things are too far? but then again,I'm not saying, she's never going to flop, or have an album as good as the other, because it's very rare.. but I do feel like this album could be a balled? because due to like news headlines, with her & anwars breakup, I genuinely feel like it could be very sad? the album, because she said it's gonna be different, so I feel like the whole, sassiness to dua, & her badass energy, could turn into a more adele, a route where it's balled & some sad music, but my issue with dua atm.. is she doesn't have a very loyal fanbase at all? She's a very private person & which has actually caused an issue with her, due to her having a very unloyal fanbase.. but then again, you never know... I thought dua was just your singer who's songs are gonna be hella overplayed, & just a boring singer, but when she released Future Nostalgia, it was a taster on what's yet to come... I do feel like her next album, will be the same success as her recent ones.

    I think the Moonlight Edition tracks were a scramble given that so many FN unreleased tracks already leaked. The re-release was pre-planned I think, considering how many artists have done re-releases a few months into their album cycles anyway. I'm not sure what her next sound is going to be, but she's gaining great stamina on her own timeline which is so impressive. She also has a cultural stronghold - people from all spectrums of music see her as a cool girl, which goes a long way in pop music considering pop maximalism is starting to have a revival. Her tone can take her to many genres, similar to Rih. I just hope whatever is next is good music, whatever that may be. I think she's self aware enough to navigate a good sound the next album. I think her "thing" is just being a cool POP star which is something we haven't had in a while.

      I was very disappointed about the Moonlight Edition, they should have included the leaked songs instead of we're good, it seemed like they included very early songs that were recorded between the first album and future nostalgia before she decided on the direction, when she announced the B-Sides are coming i was expecting 5-7 unreleased songs and then they released the moonlight edition which i still didn't think was the b-sides because it contained mostly already released songs and remixes, i viewed the moonlight edition more as a deluxe edition.

    I feel like she is in a similar situation Billie Eilish is in, billie cemented herself as a dark, creepy, edgy anti-pop star, when happier than ever released everyone labelled it a flop era because it had dramatically changed theme and concept being a much more lighter album as her dark theme was so cool and unique, she was known for dark and ppl weren't expecting a shift, hence why her album has less impact than WWAFAWDWG. Dua lipa is now known for her disco-pop mainly cause' she really excells at it, so i feel a similar thing is going to happen to her as it did to billie. She’s in a tricky situation here of being criticised for not changing enough.

      I wouldn't really compare them. Billie certainly does not lack charisma/personality and definitely had that identifiable factor that made her a household name, unlike Dua imo. Billie's sharp image change was simply the wrong move marketing-wise, together with the fact that her new album is simply not as good as her previous one. The difference is that Dua needed that image change to advance her career since her first album lacked personality. Billie did not, and i'd argue that she should have stuck with her previous aesthetic, or maybe at least have some sort of a transitional era/taken a long break. Evolution is an amazing thing when it is done right, look at Taylor Swift. Billie did not have her Red era, she went from speak now to 1989 and it threw people off. Also, I truly think that the reason billie did not have any huge hits is that the quality of her music videos and songs just went down with HTE.

      @@user-rv7ge1tc4l i am a billie fan, i listen to her music frequently and i love HTE just as much as WWAFAWDWG, u said billie didn't have her 'RED era', however i'd respectfully disagree, HTE still had many dark songs (I didnt change my number, oxytocin, overheated, NDA, therefore i am, happier than ever 2nd half) that could help bridge a shift in style. Also just because an artist doesn't have a success on charts, it doesn't mean the album or song was bad (ppl need to understand this, because the charts lately are trash, we all know it) The whole fandom of Billie and ppl how are not in the fandom agree that Happier Than Ever her best song, even though it didn't chart better than Bad Guy. Plus, a MAIN THEME on WWAFAWDWG, isn't just darkness but teengae angst, struggle, anxiety and humour which is still highly prevelant in HTE, basically both her albums + her ep show this, so billie hasn't strayed away as far as u think

      @@christianmarvello7527 I am a huge Billie fan since 2017 and I kinda disagree with most of your points:
      1. While happier than ever has some darker and moodier songs, what I mainly talked about was its marketing and aesthetic, which is simply not as interesting and exciting as Billie's debut, and made the image change feel way too intense for so early in her career. Back in 2019 -2020, there was a lot of mystery behind Billie, now there is none.
      2. Happier than ever is a nice song but to me, it is just not better than her previous music, I might be the minority. It is definitely shocking and anthemic, but it is not nearly as unique and haunting as songs like when the party's over or ilomilo.
      3. I genuinely did not find this album to be better than her debut, I could not care less about the charts. I listened to DSAM and to WWAFA on repeat like playlists, and while I do listen to some songs on HTE, it has instant skips like Lost Cause. This is obviously subjective, but I feel like HTE the album was rushed and Billie should have taken a longer break before releasing more music (although I do think that Billie's vocals are great, I mainly do not like the production/mixing which I feel was not as interesting/ well-done as it was on her debut, but that's on Finneas).

    She needs to go Gaga. ‘The Fame’ Era. It would transition nicely from Future Nostalgia but into more dark, personal. The problem is Gaga has always shared her life story in her music from day one (the girl from New York etc). Dua needs to focus on writing deep songs now that people can get to know her more from. It’s good to have hits but she needs more personal because when people become to know her better she will cement her artistry. That whole Fame Era sound is coming back around anyway. We are going back to 2010’s. Gaga created a world for her fans to live in and that’s what dua needs to do.

    Dua lipa honestly needs a gimmick, just like Troyce Tv said. I’ve watched a video with her first ever A&R and he said himself that the industry has been trying to create the next Madonna for pop music with Dua. But as talented as she is, there’s nothing appealing to her. The only person who has that IT factor so far is honesty Doja cat and she is in high demand right now. They need to stop thinking that looks and good music is enough. Where is the journey, creativity, hell where are the shock factors. When lady Gaga came into the scene the world LIVED for a good shock factor. But those days are behind us now. The industry needs to do better with these upcoming artist.

    I think your point about her not having a distinctive personality definitely links in with her poor stage presence. While her dancing has improved since the One Kiss era, her stage presence still falls flat and I don't feel anything when I watch her perform. Like even artists who don't dance, like Adele, have fantastic stage presence because they still show their personality while Dua does not. I think this is something she needs to work on if she wants to have longevity in the industry.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but Honest seems to have this mentality that all good artists must be edgy or provocative. I don't think Dua needs to be edgy to be a great artist. She just has to have a great sound. Simple as that.

    the thing with dua lipa is that while her songs are ok, i never got a chance to actually like them because theyre played everywhere all the time. shes a newer artist sure but promotion wise overexposure is just as damning as underpromotion. ESPECIALLY since dua herself doesnt have a distinct personality, fanbase or as honest said, an artist identity yet. As someone that only hears of dua lipa through the grapevine i still wonder what the hype is *really* all about. all that stands out to me is her deep voice and her height. i have the same qualms with julia michaels,, like yeah i hear alot of her stuff but, who is she? whats the hype??

    Future Nostalgia is a fantastic album packed with hits, but I do think she has stalled somewhat by riding the success of this album and 'lending' her success to other well known artists like Elton John and Miley Cyrus when I feel she should be building on it for her next album and cementing herself as a star in her own right.

    For her next album she should either)
    1. Create a Michael Jackson off the wall 70s funk and soul album, it’d be a great continuation from FN. listen to this mashup levitating x rock with you over on my channel and gives a taste of this idea
    2) go full on pharrel / nelly furtado on us, 2000s rnb inspired pop. Her song firestarter is perfect for this and would be a great first single, maybe with a collab from a 2000s artist like Britney or pharrel.
    Either way she’s a hit maker and I’m sure she’ll deliver some bops along with a whole new hairstyle and aesthetic

    The problem with Dua is , she is very famous , everybody sing her songs or at least know them , but nobody I’ve met has ever said that their favourite singer is dua lipa or even mentioned her in their favourites . I don’t know what this is but her songs are very liked but she is not as likeable as other artists of similar success as her , she doesn’t have a dedicated fanbase I would say .all her songs will age or are aging badly . Nobody goes back to listen to few of her older hits now . It’s just like she makes a song , it gets famous on tiktok for few months thn pooofff , the song is gone . I go back to Kanye’s , Beyoncé’s , Ariana’s , the Weeknd’s or even Justin’s song ( nostalgia ) more

      that is just simply wrong, just go and look at statistics. Her first album which came out in 2017 is still getting 3.6 million streams everyday. In the top 10 most streamed albums on spotify list only ed sheerans divide has the same amount of daily streams while future nostalgia has 7.6 million daily streams. Every other album on the top 10 has less daily streams than dua lipas debut album eventhough some are more recent like beerbongs and bentleys (2018 and 2.4 million daily streams).

    • @Farynt
      @Farynt 2 роки тому +1

      and Future Nostalgia is even better in longevity, for a 2 year old album 7.6 million daily streams is insane and if that doesn't convince you just look at the chart hiistory of the future nostalgia singles. It's quite the opposite of what you said, they start pretty low and climb their way up, then they stay for a very long time, levitating has been charting for 64 weeks and is still going, it will soon overtake adeles rolling in the deep (65 weeks) and become the longest charting song by a female artist in history. And also apart from levitating all the other future nostalgia songs have a very timeless sound, they are still streamed a lot, they will be streamed a lot in 10 years and you should do your research before saying shit like that. Btw i know a lot of people who named dua lipa as their favorite artist.

    Funny enough I was thinking about this just yesterday. It’s an excellent album and I may be wrong but it felt like she really reexposed the disco sounds. Like she made them popular again in a more modern sense. As I was listening to some of her songs and seeing all her Stan Twitter memes it made me wonder what she could possibly do next. I do feel like maybe we the listeners shouldn’t put too much on artists about doing more and more but in that same breath, if we seem to be letting some people advance when they don’t top themselves, we might end up with a lot more mediocre artists.
    I also never realized that we don’t know too much about Dua. I have felt it, like I know what you mean, but I’d never been able to put my finger on it. She’s able to be raw and cry and all of that but she still seems very guarded. I don’t think she’s someone who wants to let people into her life a whole lot. She’s just being agreeable and unproblematic and not really showing much of herself so it feels like she’s just around and releasing good music. I wish artists didn’t have to show who they are personally in order to keep a good audience but I guess it helps with relatability. Hopefully she can find a healthy medium where she’s also satisfied. There might be a lot to do with culture and upbringing in her keeping to herself but I’m not saying it’s definite. At the end of the day she doesn’t have to be as open as a person like Doja Cat.

    I see her more like a modern day Katy Perry. Future Nostalgia was her "Teenage Dream" album, and I see her more doing a "Prism" album (3d album that repeats the successful formula of the previous album) instead of reiventing herself too much.

    • @sweetqueenladybug2028

      Agreed 💯. What would you describe her First album about how that era was for her?

    • @rao803
      @rao803 2 роки тому +4

      @@sweetqueenladybug2028 I like to compare her withe Katy Perry because they both debuted with a pop generic album without bringing any clear concept or new sound, but they brought iconic hits like I Kissed A Girl and New Rules that made both very famous. They both have exploded they're physical attractiveness since the beggining. They both came back with a 2n album that took everyone by surprise with a great artistic improvement, clear concept and new sound. The both cemented they're sound and identity in they're 2n album, and now Dua needs a 3d album to finally stablish herself in the industry.
      Almost all artists need 3 successful albums to stablish themselves in the industry before they start "flopping", but by the time the flop knocks their door, they've already become solidified icons with a large fanbase that will consume all the stuff they do and that's what will make them stay in the industry.
      What Katy did in the 3d album was kind of repeating the TD formula, she said that she would bring a new dark sound and show a dark side of her, and she kinda did with some songs like Dark Horse or Unconditionally, but TD alredy had dark songs like ET or The One That Got Away. She started her 3d era with Roar, which would perfectly fit in Teenage Dream.
      As much as I love Dua, I don't see her bringing anything different than bubblegum pop songs. She's definitly talented, so is Katy, she can bring new sounds to pop, but she's not as versatile as Gaga or Taylor, and she's not a great vocalist either. I don't know what to expect from her for her 3d album, the only thing I know is that it's going to be a huge success because it has to.
      That's why I think she's modern day Katy Perry, she even is a KatyCat! She went to the TD tour and met Katy on stage with other katycats.
      Btw I don't see Dua making a Witness album, but let's remember that no one expected Katy to do so...
