I think she could revive her career if she pursues Latin pop. Maybe her image isn’t as tarnished in spanish speaking countries 🤷🏼♀️ you know how Becky G’s first music was in English and now she’s finding massive success singing in Spanish
Yes I was just thinking of Becky when reading this. She could still do English music like Becky still does but Spanish might help her out more like it helped Becky. She got a lot more attention and hits after switching to Spanish. And if she has songs in two languages it will make her seem really versatile
Multiple things led to her downfall. The horrific marketing and roll out of the romance era. The racism controversy & problematic tumblr page resurfacing, and how poorly that was handled. Along with how uninteresting her relationship with Shawn Mendes was. All these things led to Camila becoming a joke instead of a a serious act in pop culture. Everything she did wasn’t taken seriously from performances to that Cinderella movie. She was a meme and once you become that it’s hard to pivot out of. Also part of the reason Camila has maintained her standing as the most popular 5H member is because Normani & other members like Lauren whose debut albums are highly anticipated haven’t released.
@@Ray-uk3um her label wasn’t promoting her as much. Same thing happened to Katy Perry’s smile album, her label wasn’t promoting her so it didn’t do as well as her previous albums and it was bad timing since it was released during the pandemic
@@Ray-uk3um Liar and shameless were released on the same day in September. Cry for me & easy we’re released 2 days within each other in October. And living proof was released a month later in November. That’s 5 singles released in 3 months and all the singles failed to peak in the top 40. For an artist that had a successful debut album that’s horrible. She also released my oh my in January and that was her most successful single from that album but mostly thanks to TikTok that made the song trend. Camila and her label should’ve taken time in between releases and schedule more interviews, radio shows, live performances, magazine editorials, live festivals, etc … so that the era didn’t feel rushed and the Romance album should’ve been given a different date. During December people are mostly focused on the holidays an album like romance is better received during the summer-fall from July-November.
As a black girl who used to be a big fan of hers, I can confirm that her racist controversy is one of the reasons why her career ain't poppin like that anymore. The moment I saw those racist tweets I was completely turned off by her. She seem like this sweet hearted person but in reality it looks like that was just the image she put out herself to be. Especially when her fans attack Normani to the point where she had to delete Twitter, she was the only person from the band who didn't addressed it and didn't even try to stop her fans. Now that she went solo and was successful, her past finally catched up to her and showed that she wasn't that innocent. I don't know whether if she's truly sorry or not but I'm not really checking for her either way because her music doesn't stick that long and gets tiring after a few listens. in my opinion she doesn't seem to have that star power like I thought she did.
I think a major reason the racism stuck to her is because she sold herself as a nice girl, even a bit of a free spirit, although her driven and competitive side has always been obvious. If she had a bad girl image, came from a rough background, or had major known psychological issues, more of her fanbase might have been forgiving. But I think the killer issue is just the lack of strong material on the second album - it neither has a lot of hits, nor is it particularly interesting.
I agree but I don’t think she was pretending? She seems very quirky loud and more conservative sort of a person. Her being racist is part if her ignorant behaviour and you can be both ignorant and conservative at the same time if you know what i mean?
@@mayayoung5405 true because every time I go on social media especially Instagram I didn't even know she had a racist past one day on Instagram someone state her racist history and as expected there's was a long argument in the comment my point is that every time there's something about camilla her racist history always catch up to her. So you're right that's the major reason why her career is going down
@@joyandpeacefullaughter5307 Idk it that's what OP was saying. People who start their careers as controversial people aren't that easy to cancel, it's when your fan base thinks you're one thing & you're exposed to be the opposite. For example the Kardashian have been "exposed" for a lot of things but they're still around it's partly becuase they've never been cookie cutter & their fans know that & follow them for that very reason.
I just can’t with Camilla. I know that she has taken “racial sensitivity” classes, but if you need a class not to be racist, then you’re obviously lacking common sense. Plus, she’s fine, but there are SO many other performers I’d rather support. She doesn’t have a spectacular singing voice, or mind blowing songs that I just can’t ignore.
It’s not simply “I took a class to not be racist” I think it’s a way to educate yourself and widen your perspective. People are influenced heavily by who they are around growing up and that could’ve been something taught. I’d consider it noble she took that extra step to right her wrongs.
@@Bramz26. It was alot of social media posts and texts where she was saying racist shit and jokes plus she didn't defend Normani when she got a shit ton of racist hatred from her (Camila's) own fans
Outside of the obvious (the racism), I think part of what happened was 1) people realizing that she was pushed onto us because her voice was the highest, not that she was the best and 2) she’s sort of a walking, talking manifestation of 2011-14. Similar to what happened to Jennifer Lawrence, people got tired of the I’m Weird/Quirky/Different persona (it was also sexism but thats a different discussion).
yea i really hate her voice, it’s super nasally and her runs are also pretty annoying too. her tone also really pisses me off. i just don’t like her as a vocalist, even tho she isn’t bad, her style of singing ruins her for me.
It was her lack of accountability that ruined her. Tensions regarding race are still at an all time high and the excuse of “I wasn’t educated enough,” is not an option. As a teenager and a supposed minority at that, you know what racism is. IDK if she could build back up her image in America, but hey, she’ll probably easily be able to win in Latin Pop.
To give her a veryyy tiny bit of credit she said she was going to take racial sensitivity classes so it’s not like she did absolutely nothing. Also I’m her age and racial awareness just wasn’t a thing back then, it totally makes sense if she says that she wasn’t educated enough because it’s the truth.
@@KamikazekaitoKoki when people say they’re taking a “racial sensitivity classes”, they’re just lacking basic common sense. She apologized when people exposed her and we’re not sure if her apology is genuine or not. So don’t give her any credit.

A Million to One is also a complete trash heap of a song. The poor lyrical flow, mediocre instrumentals, and overreliance on autotuning Camilla’s voice truly add the cherry on top to this shit sundae of a movie.
I stopped liking Camila before she left Fifth Harmony. The way she handled her departure from the group & the horrific racist online attacks her fans did against Normani (photoshopping pictures of her being lynched?! 💀) and I can only remember Lauren really going hard in defending Normani. Camila was quiet for mad long and than came out with a vague ass “you don’t have to hate others to love me” tweet. After her racist past came to light I was done with her. She was never my favorite but after that I refused to support her. She’s also really annoying 💀
i was a harmonizer and a year before she left i really started seeing the separating between her and the other girls then the bullying scandal where she called normani the n word and laughed about the girls with her friend was so mean i already didn’t like it. then when all her fans started bullying normani online racially and camila’s response 💀 i was ot4 after that.
Her behavior from 2015-2016 was peak SELF-CENTERED yet the fandom always managed to paint her the victim. Now the general public thinks she was bullied by OT4. I've personally forgiven Camila. I believe she is no longer pretending to be something she is not like she used to in 5h. Most of her fans were kids who couldn't see through it but we all go through our phases I guess.
I stopped liking her due to personal preferences. I didn’t rlly know about the controversies cuz I don’t rlly research artists I just listen to what I like. I related to some of her previous songs. When her romance album came out I lost interest
I didn't know about the photoshop lynching Jesus Christ am sick to my stomach. How the fuck can she even say "oh don't go after her." What a heartless person!
I think Romance was badly marketed and the public spectacle of her relationship with Shawn Mendes didn't go the way they' wanted it too. Camila tried to solidify herself as the perfect "good girl" character, which is why any kind of controversy stained her instead of being something she could shake off. I personally think that she took the "Taylor Swift" route when she publicly dated Shawn Mendes but Taylor only makes her dating life a public spectacle when she's giving people the drama they (like to pretend they don't) want. Like when she called out Joe Jonas on Ellen for breaking up with her via text or dated Tom Hiddleston right after she broke up with Calvin Harris. As horrible as it may sound, Camila and Shawn were squeaky-clean to the point of being boring 😂 Behind the scenes, I think she has a lot of contractual issues with her label. That's why her career on questionable grounds right now.
@@valdos9318 they over sold it is the point. That's why honest said the roll out was "a bit of a mess". Half the work of releasing an album is making sure it's highly anticipated. If half the songs are already released by the time the album drops, no one is really excited for it, it's already old news. Sometimes less is more.
I don't think they tried to make a public spectacle of their relationship, it's just people are obsessed with celebrity couples and harass them. It's just like people constantly butt themselves into and are obsessed with Tom & Zendaya's relationship. People especially harassed Shawn and Camilla because they both have these groups of absurd people wanting them to be queer and are calling their relationship "fake".
@@cutienerdgirl I completely agree that people take a boderline disrespectful interest in the love lives of celebrities. (Or just their lives in general). But I still think Camila and Shawn made a spectacle of their relationship. All celebrities have teams around them. Managers and agents all of whom help to structure their career and offer advice for collaborations and publicity engagements. But a really good team doesn't just do that, they help the celebrity to navigate where their private lives fit in with all the glamour and fame. And any agent worth their salt will advise their person to keep their love lives as low key as possible for the exact reason stated above: people get way too invested. Tom and Zendaya's case was unfortunate because they literally got caught by some creeping paparazzi. Camila and Shawn had a completely different feel: their live performance of senorita at the AMAs looked .... Well performative. It looked like something they did because of the attention it would get. It's bad business to mix your love life and career like that unless it was for publicity. If that relationship was genuine (and I wouldn't bet my money on it) it was handled poorly on both of their parts and I find that really hard to believe.
I've been a Harmonizer since the start and the thing that made me lose respect for her was when her fans racial attacked Normani on Twitter and she didn't address it. Ally, Dinah and Lauren did but not her. It took her days to say something and when she did it was very vague.
she literally did address it but go off. But where was Normani when 5h fans were in Camila's mentions making r*pe and deportation jokes for weeks on end? Oh right, she was silent.
@@movsess you really are trying to change the subject by completely ignoring that Camilla made those racist posts when she was still in Fifth Harmony??? The topic of Camila stans racially bullying normani was really dark and devastating to read or look at. If normani wasn’t strong she could have committed su!c!de. It was really really horrible
As a black person I can say that I GENUINELY loved Camilla. She was also my favourite in the group. I was kind of upset that she left the group, but I understood since she couldn't negotiate things with her label. You could tell that she wanted to pursue her solo career and still be a 5h member. It's very common for kpop idols to pursue solo careers while still being in groups. Her racist past LEGIT threw me off. It broke my heart knowing that someone I loved hated me for something I couldn't change. I still like a few of her songs, but I don't like her as a person honestly. Like yeah she apologized, but did she change?? So far as I remember her apology wasn't even THAT sincere. Like I just don't know if she's really changed or is just putting on a facade. My trust for her is just gone. I don't know if I'll ever love her as much as I did back then or even have a mutual liking for her. At least.
Same! No one really talks about how much her racism must've affected her black fans. Because I loved her so much, she was so unique and gave me a lot of confidence in myself. I was in total denial of what happened and didn't want to believe it but eventually I just felt too much guilt being a fan of hers after what happened with Normani, like how? And it wasn't even regular racism that black celebs sadly get, this was really, really bad as if her fans were just waiting to attack her and she says nothing????
literally same, it wasn’t to the extent of ur experience but i didn’t even have internet at the time so i used to hear them on the radio and on tv music channels and she always stuck out to me, her voice and her in general so imagine my shock when i finally get a phone and i see this shit???😭 man i was so disappointed
As a black girl myself the moment i saw those tweets i was done. It wasn’t just one tweet of her being racist, it was around 20+ tweets . Yeah she might’ve changed like her fans like to say every three seconds but i will never look at her the same. And im sure many people felt this way as well.
well said! I dont even know what the excuse from her fans is...i did not make racial tweets when i was 15, my friends did not. It WAS not normal for teenagers to do that unless they had issues. Plus she was not some small town girl living a sheltered life, she was already out in the public, travelled to major cities, exposed to tv and the music industry and most importantly in group with a black girl at the time, the racist tweets were made. She can apologize and change, which is good for her but we will not idolize or actively support her. There's enough other better singers around. She was pushed on us by her label and media anyway. Not like she had the most amazing voice.
Yeah that shit was VILE. I can look past ppl using the n word years ago in a song or dumb tweets that are obviously not meant to be racist but her tumblr was so much more than that. Keeping in mind tumblr was very socially liberal.
This tho. Even if i had the right to forgive or not forgive her (which i don't, bc i'm not black), i just can't look at her the same. Those tweets were MALICIOUS. What's worse is she made those tweets around the same times she was put in the same group as a black girl, and then she gets marketed off as the "sweet adorkable quirky girl next door". The whole thing is fucked up
i think that people "excuse" racism when an artist is like, very good. but since all camila's songs are either average or bad, not to mention very dated, people kinda forgot her. she is not even actively hated anymore, people just lost interest
As a former fan of Camila it’s very disheartening to remember her posting articles about anti-racism on her Instagram and Twitter. Then later on ignored the racism and racial threats made to Normani. That showed how she truly felt about these issues because she never apologized to Normani despite being in the group with her at the time. That tells you more about her than the fake nice girl image she and her team tries to paint.
I lost all respect for her when her response to her racist posts and to her fans racist attacks to Norma I was tweeting “guys you don’t have to hate someone else to love me” like what
@@bloodsuckaa you can easily pull up the sources yourself by doing the research, because Normani stans tried everything in there power too erase the TWO videos of her making fun of south asian accents. She mocked the accent herself and was laughing with her friend being xenophobic towards a taxi driver, also Normani excused chris browns actions on multiple occasionsafter he assaulted Rihanna. Yes there is a video and tweet of this as well.
I think the Normani thing has to do more with the fact that they actually never were friends. Camila never seemed to enjoy being with them. Is like people from the outside would ask for you to defend a classmate that you had to work and interact with but you never built a close relationship with him. In fact, I never felt any of them had an authentic close relationship or bond as Little Mix, for example. And Let's be honest, Normani saw the chance and took it for her own agenda too. All these situations are related to sells and money. All those tweets of her past resurfaced in her climax moment of fame. I don't know who did it, but the purpose was clear and the industry seems to work like that. Also, Camila comes from a very privileged Cuban population and it was not a surprised to me at all that she used to be a little brat. Main problem is that people idealized famous people. Their artwork is one thing. But who they are is really different. That's why people always get disappointed, because they think famous people are perfect and they are not. God knows what kind of things they hide and what they have to do in order to be part of that star system.
Her issue is that she was marketed as the “Beyonce” or “Justin” of the group and was supposedly so much more talented than the other girls, but reality isn’t matching up… Camila’s voice can be extremely grating to listen to and Normani is by far a better dancer and live performer. The general public wasn’t blown away by Camila like her fans seem to think
And the thing is the other girls actually have better range than Camila too but none of 5H’s music catered to their tone or style. If you listen to how they sound live now they’re far better than what they sounded like in 5H, and far better than what Camila sounds like.
narru No one in the general public cares though, Camila’s “singing” and “dancing” she does on stage wasn’t enough to keep her from flopping hard in the Romance era or in the Don’t Go Yet era. Camila’s goat-like screeching barely counts as singing
She was the youngest, wasn't she? That's probably why she was prioritised. The industry wants them as young & naive as possible. She also appealed to kids the most.
I really don't care about her. As a black person, the receiving end of racism hurts like hell, especially from friends. I used to be her fan but now nope
I would love to see a breakdown of the marketing of Fifth Harmony, and more specifically, Camila being marketed as the "stand out" of the group and how that impacted both Camila and Fifth Harmony's careers. You mention in the video that Camila was the stand out from day 1-- I do seem to remember one of the judges saying that on X Factor, but that wasn't really the sentiment in the early days of the group. I actually think their label tried to push Lauren as the "lead", so to speak, in the early days. She by far sang the most on X Factor, she had a lot of the choruses of their first album, she starred as the main character in the first music video, etc. But definitely at some point their label shifted focus to Camila as the one with the most star material. I don't think it was due to talent-- all the girls are talented, and I'd argue that Lauren/Dinah/Ally were the best singers, while Normani was the best dancer. You could be pessimistic and say it may have been due to image, as Camila was maybe the most marketable in terms of popular beauty standards (being very thin, lighter skinned) but also with a "good girl" image.Towards the end of Camila's time with Fifth Harmony, she was by far the most well known in the group, but largely due to the fact that she was marketed as such by the label. Again, not saying she wasn't talented, but she wasn't THE stand-out talent wise. The effect of this is pretty evident in Camila and Fifth Harmony's careers afterwards. What had really increased her individual popularity during her time in Fifth Harmony was her brief relationship with Austin Mahone (who was popular amongst pre-teens then), her features on popular songs, and her good girl image. I think a lot of that explains why she and Shawn had such a public relationship-- whether or not it was fake, what had worked in the past for her during Fifth Harmony was a public relationship and successful duets. But once her good girl image was shattered by her racist comments and people started being annoyed by her relationship with Shawn, her management wasn't really sure how to market her. As for Fifth Harmony, so much of the marketing for Fifth Harmony had gone into boosting Camila's star power, that the label seemed to have lost interest once she left. I don't think Fifth Harmony would have really worked as a group in the long run, since each member has such a different style, but the drop off in promotion from the label was really palpable after Camila left. It seemed like they were a project that was scrapped the minute Camila left, as evidenced by the lack of marketing for their final album. I think the bottom line is Camila didn't get her solo career because she was more talented than the other women-- they're all talented, but her increased popularity was down to marketing. The reason her career is stagnating now is in my opinion due to the delayed realization that marketing can only get her so far-- especially when your good girl image is broken by your racist past. She has the talent, so the focus for her should be on finding success through developing a particular sound (perhaps latin pop focused) rather than pursuing public relationships and duets like what worked for her in the past. That is, of course, if anyone is willing to forgive her racist comments. Personally I am not, but I have a feeling she could regain popularity if she's successful in finding her sound.
THIS!!!!! it’s so upsetting because all the girls were at X-Factor and auditioned with a dream in their minds and for a moment they thought they had it but then they started seeing the ugly truth of how their management BLATANTLY preferred and marketed and pushed out one girl to stand, a girl who didn’t say anything against it. They worked their asses off as a group and worked hard day in and day out only to be completely ignored by their management. I used to love camila but the reason I’m not so into her anymore besides the racism is how she portrays herself as this victim and the other girls as the bully. You can’t tell me she hasn’t seen at least ONE of those edits that have millions of views. Because of the way she victimized herself, the other girls’ careers were sabotaged and went down the drain and their management did nothing to keep up their image or promote them, they just dropped 5H the moment Camila left. And took a last chance at clout with the group by creating all the twitter drama by making it look like the girls kicked her out. I genuinely lost all respect for Camila after this because even if you don’t like someone, let alone someone you’ve worked with for years, it’s common decency to speak up and tell the your fanbase to stop bullying innocent girls for something they haven’t done but nope she still continues to act all naive and innocent.
Being a harmonizer through 2017-18 was truly something else. Camilla sat back and let her fans and the media paint her group mates as jealous bullies. The comments above mine are god tier and it gives me hope a popular commentator/commentary channel does a deep dive into Fifth Harmony and all the messy management drama they went through during and after camila’s departure. Camila started the “bullying” rumors herself by saying how she felt “left out” by the rest of the girls her fans ran with that and came up with bullying rumors and camila never tried to clear up those rumors either. That resulted in 5H having a massive hate train and all those “5H bullying/ignoring camila for (blank) minutes” videos to pop up and the comments of those videos goes to show how much people believed camila’s slanderous lies. The rest of the 5H ladies began to get bullied relentlessly until their “hiatus” (disbandment 🙄) happened. Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid are to blame as well for using Normani, Ally, Dinah, and Lauren as stepping stools for camila’s solo career.
Camila showed her true colors when she watched her own group mate get attacked online by raging racist who call themselves “fans”, that along with those text messages to her friend and those Tumblr post was the nail in the coffin for her career. Everybody has their day in the sun (even celebrities) 2016-2018 truly was her peak everyone loved her and wanted her to go solo, and with the way management was pushing her you would think she was an amazing performer with the vocals to match 😭 the public and media began to get tired of her in 2019 and lost interest as the years went by. I look at it as her karma catching up to her she threw an entire group under the bus along with slandering their names so she could flourish now look at her, not even a handful of years into her career and already everybody’s bored and tired of her.
Ur analysis was ON POINT!! And it truly makes sense why the label would no longer invest in 5h anymore when they already have a potential star that they can market and invest in instead.
You all don't understand how serious it was when her fans attacked Normani back in 2016 and she did not even addressed it to defend Normani directly. She's an opportunistic artist just like Nicole from Pussycat dolls. Won't deny the fact that she's talented - but whatever is happening to her now, it's pure karma. Her music is good tho.
she did btw lol and there is an interview of normani saying it's not camila's fault look that shit up , camila was so young and made mistakes but the only apportunistic here is normani who tried to build a career out of simpathy lol ppl know normani just bcz they hate camila lol
@@yassineboudjeniba8688 Now why you lying lol. Normani spoke out about the whole racism ish in like 2-3 interviews and called it a day. Normani built her career off of her talent. She practically had to start over from the beginning while Camila didn’t have to put in much work cause her label already backed her up. The girls fans were racially harassing Normani on a daily and photoshopping her onto pictures of slaves being lynched, raped, cut open and whipped. I’d like to see you deal with that kind of abuse from millions of people.
Honestly, I don't resent her for pursuing a solo career, but I didn't like how she left the other girls hanging when she exited the group and her team's strategy to brand her has this flower that was mistreated by her bandmates made me side eye her from THAT moment. Her first album gave me hope that she would be GenZ's female version of Ricky Martin (which is a sound that I really missed). Can you imagine my disappointment when they switched up her style for the second album? She sounded like several of her counterparts in the industry... it took away her originality and whatever interest I had left in her music... not that the songs were terrible per say. Then, the racism controversy just broke my heart. I've seen her die-hard fans policing around people like me into forgiving her and downplaying her actions... it seriously just adds fuel to the fire. The tone deafness of her fans, her team and herself to swipe this under the rug, until her past caught up to her and start affecting her sales... it won't be missed. Lastly, her role in the latest Cinderella movie seemed to have been designed from what her team are trying to mold her image into. It didn't help that the film was incredibly flawed.
I don’t think she made the band look like bad guys. In every interview she always stated that she loves the girls and only left the group to have more control over her work. Idk where yall getting this from
@@thankuslay6766 Tbh I don’t think Camila was ever treated as badly. All their songs and promotions surrounded her. The other girls on the other hand were treated like trash.
Even though Fifth Harmony wasn't the best girl group, I feel like it's unfair that people shit on them because back when each member was auditioning, none of them said that they wanted to be in a group. They didn't even audition together to begin with
@Sara Moustamandi RIGHT??? Teenagers tend to be very timid and awkward around strangers ESPECIALLY when the stranger is also a teen. Just an overall mess and the reason as to why they didn't have a bond with eachother was because they didn't know eachother to begin with
I never liked the prospect of putting contestants into a group. They auditioned solo, clearly they want to be solo artists. You're just setting everyone for what they don't really want.. But they want to the job opportunity so bad, they just go with it. There are people who audition as groups, there's just no point making more out of solo contestants imo..
When her first album came out, I heard some people said would camila become the next shakira or jlo. Well, time already gave us the answer. Also the racist tumblr thing really brought her a lot of negative impression from black and asian people (including myself)
Yep, and as a Latino, we already have so much antiblackness and anti-asian prejudice within our community and I just didn’t want to support someone who only further participates in it.
I tried to say this, she's not a superstar. She's not someone who is going to win an Icon Award or be applauded for her discography. She'll come around every so often with something catchy, but there's no longevity. She'll do whatever other failed artists do, hosting, tv or work behind the scenes.
@Ésteban Universidad she did, not a lot like her anti black posts but still. One of them using Ching C slur and another even using Chinese characters to spell N word
I think they thought their PR (public relationship) would give them a boost it did give them a boost in Señorita which became a huge hit but then their relationship was so boring and fake when they’re really best friends.
Both talented, but it has been years and neither of them has had a massive hit, maybe just Normani but she doesn't even have an álbum out yet, we are still waiting
I agree with you, but it also physically hurts me when Dinah's work and potential are being overlooked. She has several good singles under her belt, barely to any support from her label and most of the 5H fans don't seem to be checking for her... it hurts. At least, Normani and Lauren have eyes on them. Dinah and Ally are being paid dust (although Ally seems to be thriving anyway).
@@Poufkimashoula1 ally is literally thirving by herself lmao, Dinah’s tour made more noise than lauren’s tho, people may act like they don’t check for Dinah, but the moment she does a performance or releases something everyone and even the haters go check cause they deep down know she is the best of em all
Camila had the chance to be a big artist right after she left the group and given the fact that there was a lot of controversy many ppl were watching what she was doing, that's why her first album did good, after that is a downhill, her racism resurfaced, normani speaking about it and then her and SM didn't help being a annoying couple, besides her personality is just unlikable and her music can't save her that much, imo she's just there, she's not doing anything remarkable with her music and the fact that she's been racist in the past would be a hard thing for ppl to overcome, she could save her career doing latin pop music but tbh most of latin pop music is not chasing that sound of Havana and Don't go yet that apparently she likes so much so idk what route this girlie can go
@@novepipps same I don't really feel sorry for her, I would feel sorry if her music was that good but since it's not then I can't feel that way for her
@@Kevin-rg3yc I did not know that, but I wasn’t talking about West Side Story. I was talking about the awful Cinderella movie Amazon Prime came up with.
I’m not one to scream RACISM!! when a celeb scandal happens, but when I looked up Camila‘s tumblr posts, I was SHOCKED. She was calling AA ppl apes, mocking them for eating chicken, and making slavery “jokes.” It was HORRIBLE! I’ve never trusted her after that. I don’t think anyone can anymore.
No, she did great. You said if you can't be lovers you can be friends! Something I just don't think you can do, no! You said if you can't be lovers, you can't be friends! 'Cause you don't know how to unlove her!
i used to be a huge camila fan but after her racist remarks i couldnt look at her or listen to her music ever again. she said some very horrible things and I don’t see how she still has fans who support her. Romance was extremely underwhelming also, i think she’s had her peak during 2017-18 but wont ever reach that again
No shade, I never understood why Camilla was the “star” of the group cos all the other girls are miles more talented. Maybe I just don’t like the sound of her voice.
I think in a lot of ways that “quirky I’m not like other girls” image she’s been able to bank on for the past few years, has gotten really old and somewhat annoying. As much as I would love to believe that she’s being held accountable for her racism, we’ve seen far worse go unpunished. The music and her voice is just isn’t strong enough for an audience to ignore all her blatant issues.
another controversy camila had during the romance era was that people accused her of copying halsey. halsey's 2017 album, hopeless fountain kingdom, had a very known and unique aesthetic attached to it. two years later romance was released and a lot of people saw that the aesthetic, font, and merch was very similar to halseys hfk and a lot of halsey fans got mad at camilla. it got so much attention that even halseys creative director (who worked on everything involving hfks aesthetic) publicly called out her and her team for copying their work.
@@mochacup1868 honestly me too it wasn’t until I saw a video online about “everything that’s wrong with Halsey” that I learned about this. I still love her but it’s hard to unsee 😭😂
The racism towards black people & Normani, the fact that she left the group at the height of their career and was the only one allowed to do solo features at the time made people, not like her. The solo marketing in the group didn't do her much favor in the long run as she was seen as the one the label pushed at the expense of others. For me, I am indifferent towards Camila, but I will never let it slide with how she handled the racism of her own fans towards Normani. She never spoke up for her or supported Normani, but Lauren, Ally, and Dinah did. And the racism she's shown will always be remembered. I won't judge her if she's changed but she will always be held accountable for that which is rightly so.
@@the_girl_under_ur_bed you telling me Camila wasn’t present or conscious in her body as she was making all them racist tweets. This is the hill you gonna die on? Rlly 😭 out of all racist celebs
@Thesilentvoice The part about "the fact...of others." literally was in her favors. Other members were portrayed as bullies and untalented people for years. They portrayed her as extremely talented and quirky. It is only now that people are realizing that she was too toxic as well.
Usually female artists slowly adopt a more “adult” image (more s*xual, grungy, etc.) as they grow older in their career. You see it with Billie, Ariana, Normani, etc. But Camila seems to have done the complete inverse… the older she gets, the more “quirky teenage girl in a sweater” she gets. I’m not necessarily saying it’s bad, but people aren’t used to it. Edit: When I say "Camila isn't adult" I mean we're not getting "All In My Head" music video Camila. She was everything. I remember being like "damn she is THE new pop girl" at that 2016-2017 era. She toned a GOOD thing down as she got older... took on these like comedic music videos (Havana, Liar, etc.) that were kinda childish, so yeah. No hate, just a personal observation of an awkward direction she took. She tried to fix something that wasn't broken. But yeah, the "quirky & comedic" persona/music video direction, bad rollout/mediocrity of Romance, and tacky relationship with Shawn are the leading factors in her career derailment, even more than the racism/Cinderella scandals imo (unfortunately). Also Camila/her team has made several bad business moves; she was supposed to sing a number of songs from 2017-now that ended up HUGE and she backed out. She was actually supposed to sing "The Middle" with Zedd; her demo is absolutely beautiful & on youtube. Better than Maren Morris, so idk what happened. That's just one example.
I don't see Camila going less and less sexual tho 🤔... Could you elaborate ? She was never overly sexual to begin with (except maybe in fifth harmony but it wasn't really "her", and she didn't have her breakthrough yet). In her 2nd album she released my oh my, along with señorita which were pretty explicit... And well, she always dressed pretty feminine (not that you have to dress feminine to be sexy, but she doesn't look like she's trying to be quirky or appeal to teenagers). Personality wise I agree that's she's not your typical Marilyn Monroe, but she's always been this way
The way I see it, Camila (and the rest of 5H) was thrust into the music industry with an expectation of being “sexy” even at a young age. Think of Worth It, Work From Home, the way they had to dress on stage, etc. Those weren’t her songs and it wasn’t her choice to be represented that way. So now that she actually has a say in her own music, it makes sense that she might want to take a more “childish” and fun route because for most of her career that wasn’t even an option.
Taylor doesn't do the whole sexy thing and she is one of the most successful pop singer. Idk if the whole sexy thing is a problem. I mean, if she doesn't feel comfortable then that's fine
Fifth Harmony did feel like a troubled group honestly. It’s kinda sad, now that the girls are opening up about their experiences and troubles within the group. Ally admitted in her podcast she didn’t enjoy her time in Fifth Harmony, and how the group’s management prohibited her from working on solo projects she liked. Lauren obviously doesn’t the like the management as well. There’s many videos out there showing her dislike. And of course there’s Normani who opened up about her cyberbullying. As shown in the video I think the girls are in a good place right now, they auditioned to be solo stars in the first place. And Fifth Harmony was pretty much a good stepping stone into that.
Let's also talk about how they didn't let Dinah show her full vocal potential because they didn't want her to outshine the other members, they even threatened her telling her that if she doesn't sing in a lower tone they wouldn't give her any solo lines. And the saddest situation, Ally receiving sexual harassment by one of the music executives. And like Lauren said in a recent interview, there was a lot more than we don't even know. These girls went through a lot more than just bad management. Even though I miss them a lot, I'm so happy they're out of that nightmare.
Years ago I was called a hater when I mentioned that Camilla's voice grates on my ears and I didn't like it, glad other people are finally getting it. Also I feel like a lot of POC (Camilla is white Latina so don't try it) could see through the quirky/relatable trend that Camilla participated in because that trend was mostly for white people. POC generally are seen through stereotypes that don't even allow them to be seen as "quirky/relatable". The voice and fake personality was enough to put me off of her, but then I heard about the racist stuff and was just completely over her. I'm sure there is a world in which she can revive her career but I'll personally never be a fan. There are too many good artists out there for me to try and force myself to enjoy her music.
You're absolutely right. There are a few quirky black characters out there FINALLY. Bubblegum, Insecure and The Good Place are great shows for that. New Girl too actually.
Yeah but this bleeds into people picking who can be relatable and who cannot. Who one can choose to project their hate on while others get a pass especially if you’re POC. However one thing I will say that if she hypothetically ever said she was autistic then people would either be quiet about her or throw more hate towards since people nowadays hate cringe culture which kinda gives off being ableism
@@rabidhog4912 I think the speculation of his sexuality dented her career and gave her a bad look publicly. Like, we all know it was pr but they couldn’t even give us one second of believability. It was giving very much beard.
@@rabidhog4912 They went public right after a duet, and before she dropped an album, so people already didn't take them serious and then this along with them trying to be "quirky,' people assuming Shawn is gay, and it just not being an interesting relationship (of course it doesn't have to be, but because people assumed it was a publicity stunt people expected that) it sort of dragged them both down
She'd always be doing the most in interviews when the girls were talking, which was kinda annoying. But I still love her because she and the other girls of Fifth Harmony, brought me light and happiness. I may still care about Camila but I side-eye her and question her actions and motives even more now. I want all the girls to win though. Camila had her win already, now I'm rooting for Normani, Ally, and Lauren!

Honestly she makes good music. Like Consequences was just something that I loved and I actually enjoy her tone. It’s something that you instantly recognize. And she’s great on features, like she’s the go to for a hook. But it’s hard to take her seriously until she gives a sincere apology. Particularly to Normani, because I know that had to hurt her.

For what they were, I’d say fifth harmony was the biggest female group of the 2010s. Girl groups aren’t easy in this musical climate. So it’s cool that they lasted as long as they did. And this is coming from a totally neutral party, I wasn’t the fondest of them. But can’t deny their hits.
i think taking the world into consideration Little Mix was way bigger than 5H especially since they got together first, have been together for over a decade and have put out more albums all of which charted. Like don’t get me wrong, in terms of the US? 5H was more popular. but in terms of the world? Little Mix no contest

Camila was at her lowest point when she decided to do that Cinderella movie with James Corden of all people 🤢 also she’s not that great of an actress, like Selena was on Wizards of Waverly Place (iconic Alex Russo). Sounds like she lost her purpose or sound.
Let's actually talk about it...Camila was in her bag after she left the group..she was THAT girl......everyone was trying to sing and be like her...but legit that all went away in a blink of an eye....espcially after the racist remarks....her 2nd album was decent but its almost as if Camila (her first album) seems to be the best she can do rn....i think she needs to stop chasing havana....and the "old her" we all liked then...and start again..find who she is NOW..musically at lest..cause rn ...her music is lost and she is easily fading into the background
True...when she released "oh na na na", I asked myself if it was a joke. Where did all her creativity go? She needs her heart broken again, so we can get good music. Jk 😂
Also she's not exactly the best songwriter so when she's got a damaged reputation and only her voice to save her, it's not working. Especially since I feel like now people are getting over the whole 'higher pitched nasal singing = unique = good' thought process. That was a huge trend during her first era but that trend's dying off. I'm kinda glad cause no joke those voices gave me slight migraines.
I called this when her first album come out and people didn't want to hear it. She's not a superstar, she's going to stay forgettable. Unfortunate, but true.
I used to love the fuck out of this group and I will never ever forget when camila's fans were attacking her day and night, I was watching it all go down and as a black girl myself, that shit made me cry so hard. the worst and nastiest part was when they photoshopped her on a noose as a slave. That shit bugged me out and camila DID NOT SAY ONE FUCKING THING. Lauren supported Normani, Dinah supported Normani, Ally supported Normani, but Camila didn't flinch and that was the moment I instantly hated her because she couldn't even say "Oh, I didn't know" because those comments were BOMBARDING Normani's comments on every platform. I will just... never forget those days.
The fact that she had all that time on her hands to be racist, and then is completely silent during all this.. It's very telling of what kind of person she is. Idk if it's bc she was low-key jealous of Normani & enjoyed seeing the hate, or its just an extension of racism, but I don't see how she thought that would be a time to remain neutral & say nothing. After being so vocal with racism. From what Normani has said, there wasn't even any private support. It was straight up ignoring. It suprised me that she didn't even support her for her own benefit. She would've gotten praised for supporting Normani publically, being the most popular bandmember. She must've really disliked Normani, for whatever reason, it's the only explanation that makes sense for her actions imo.
Honestly , I really really liked camilla and her songs and after the racism issues surfaced, I still like a lot of her songs but I can't really like her or be a huge fan. I still listen to her songs but I don't root for her the way I used too.
exactly, i used to love her and was excited whenever she dropped something, but after the racist shit i just can’t look at her the same anymore.. i still enjoy her music too, but it feels “wrong” to listen to it, and you shouldn’t have to feel that way with someone. i wish she was a better person- correct me if i’m wrong, but i don’t think she ever properly addressed anything she said nor do i think she cares at all which makes me even more turned off by her ..
You can like the music, you don't have to like her. It's not like it's her music alone, you're listening to a body of work built by a team of talented writers, instrumentalists and sound engineers, not just Camila herself. :)
As a black person, I believe people deserve a right to change. Like I loved her so much, and was completely heartbroken when the racist things resurfaced. It took me months to consider that she really has changed judging from all the things she did in the pandemic and all like that. I feel bad for her because every kind of help she renders or anything she does with a black person is considered as her just trying to make people forget about her racist past and not because she has genuinely changed. One thing I've realized is that celebs who make discriminatory posts and never apologize are never cancelled and it's sad.
Did anyone find weird that during her time in 5H, she was never marketed as ethnic. I remember Dinah,Ally, and maybe Lauren being marketed as ethnic Camila was just white girl. After she left, she suddenly found it important to show that she was latin.
@@Rebecca-eg1bm The whole album was done so so poorly. The My oh my music video wasn't it. Everyone loved the live performance and the music video was underwhelming. The song was a moderate hit, but could have been bigger. I don't know why they stopped promoting it.
I've always had a strange feeling towards her but not in a way like some people who usually say "I always knew they were bad!" it's more like... Since she's my age she was kinda easy to read for me, so i knew her intents many times in many ways even from the few moments i could see of her. She was a big One Direction fan before and after XFactor and the moment she got the One Direction treatment of getting put into a girlband like them, with 5 members nonetheless, she did everything in her power to try to be their female version. She went for the 'bows' as her thing, which many oldschool one direction fans will get, she tried to make shipping a thing between her and Lauren when Lauren was probably struggling with her own se/xuality and she just did a lot of things that i honestly saw why her other bandmates sometimes felt uncomfortable to the point where i see their annoyence towards her when she left to go solo. The racism thing is something that i could tell she meant at the moment since i would believe the 'not being educated' towards sl-urs and things like that if she were from another country but USA? No. I do believe she regretted it but at the moment it was horrible and more so since she had a black girl as a bandmate. There's just so much about her that strikes me as shady and since things keep happening, I haven't been proven wrong so I still have those feelings towards her when i see anything about her. But that's just my theory.
Agreed 100% Before I even knew much about fifth harmony, just watching clips of them I could tell Camila wanted to be the one that stood out, rather than them being a harmonious girl group
I think it's ok for her to love being in the spotlight, but a lot of the time it felt she was actively trying to outshine everyone instead of working together. There were better singers in the group that did not have that energy of trying to be frontman at every opportunity. Really felt like that in interviews. It's ok to like attention, especially when you're going for that kind of career, but it was often extremely rude & tone deaf. So it did not strike me as unbelievable when she was tone deaf in the racial aspect..
Agree. I used to say this all the time and I got hate. It was obvious what she was doing lmao especially if u were a directioner. But I have to give it to her, she was smart
I've been trying to say this for so long and you've worded this so perfectly! I thought i was the only that noticed and I'm so glad other people see this too, her intentions were quite obvious especially for one direction fans. Agree with you 100%
Also she needs to apologize to normani and rihanna specifically These apologies are always so vague "I was uneducated" girl just address the people you insulted smh
I use to be a Camila stan but quickly toss that fanfare out when Normani spoke. After all I am a black girl and will stan harder for just treatment for my people.
Her music just isn't good and she's not a likable person. Havana blew up because it was extremely catchy and is one of the few songs of hers where her obnoxiously grating vocals aren't present. From there, the hits kept coming not because of star power or huge appeal, but because the songs fit the right trends at the right time. She immediately had a behemoth of a budget behind her from the get-go in a way I do not see often for newer artists and she still screwed it up. The music just wasn't there and I don't think she has much going for her. Combine her bad music, bad vocals, and frankly obnoxious personality with some truly baffling decisions like her incredibly public and uncharismatic relationship with Shawn Mendes (did ANYONE like seeing them together?) and starring in a #girlboss remake of Cinderella that not a single person on this Earth asked for and you have a rapidly fading pop singer that no one seems to be rooting for
very happy to see I'm not the only one, I never liked her nor Mendes to begin with, they were just trendy at the right time as you said and that's why people hopped on board with them
I think the main reason why she's "flopping" is because she had a terrible marketing team. Her 2nd album felt so rushed and the controversy about her racist past comes along so it went downhill so fast. She handled the situation poorly that's why I understand why so many black people are mad or disappointed to her. There's so many false information about her controversy that people think is real but since her apology is not clear and sincere, it affected her more. And to top it off, after señorita was released, many people are annoyed by her relationship with shawn mendes and I guess it didn't benefit them as much. I do think that their relationship is real but it was a marketing move as well. Her original plan for her third album, "familia" is a terrible concept to bring herself back to music. And I guess her team saw that, that's why it got delayed and the breakup with shawn happened. It's a good move before starting a new era. I think there's a chance for the general public to hype her up again because she's not at her peak potential yet. She just needs to change her marketing team.
When she left the group I fully supported her cause of all the compilation videos of her being 'bullied' by the other members. Then the racist posts came out and added with Shawn racist tweets and I just felt bad for Normani.
Camila was never forgiven because of not taking accountability for her racism. Instead she acted ignorant. Cuba is one of the blackest countries in Latin America, for her to lie and say she meant no harm behind her racist statements on black people was a major no no.
I'm pretty sure she was also racist to east asian people I dont know why it was not mentioned here, because after that her performance of one of her songs popped up but it the title was in korean. From the few comments I could translate they were clowning her to no end. It was absolutely hilarious and well deserved.
If anything I think her relationship with Shawn left an icky feeling about both of them for many people ! Also camilla is much more suited to Latin pop and I think she could still have a huge career there if she navigated, her aesthetic is very similar to what Latin pop requires, her sound certainly is so I’m not sure why she hasn’t pivoted that way
The racism in her past is definitely the main thing that tanked her career down from its heights during the havana era. More importantly the lack luster apology. You cannot rectify that kind of racism with one post in an insta story. The least she could have done is come on camera and talk about it and truly reflect on why she had that blatant racism in her as a teen. This is not something that is done in one post or one video. This takes time. Her response was not genuine. I think the industry doesn’t allow for that, meaning the pressure she is under by her team and label. They felt the need to brush it under the table, in hopes that people will forget. If she had explained how she became racist in an honest way, and how she will educate herself or work towards dismantling it within her, I believe that would have been better. The relationship with shawn was a huge mistake. It was clearly pr, they were each other’s beard in my option. It was cringe and over the top and so obviously fake that it just felt dumb to watch. They made that faux relationship the center of attention, that was the problem. Well it did give them a number one hit, I guess that was the goal, congrats. But it lead to loss of respect, they were a joke in the eyes of the public.
No, her apology is real and sincere. You find your way, but it's never enough. Although it's been tough for you, you're losing touch. And ah, summer has its end sometimes. And though I can't promise you much, you'll be fine. You'll be fine. *peaceful R&B music*
in some peoples eyes it wouldn’t have even mattered if she apologized or not or changed or not. some people just won’t forgive. but to say her apology is insincere is not taking into account that she has advocated for black people and black rights as well as she has educated herself during racial healing sessions. no one made her do that. she chose to heal and learn and grow on her own yet people still tear her down for going to “racial training”. she’s damned if she does and she’s damned if she doesn’t. like her or don’t but there are many young stars that have had racism scandals who have never even addressed it and they don’t get treated half as poorly as camila does. i just kinda feel bad for her at this point tbh
Camilla showed me the difference between two girl groups, 5th Harmony and Little Mix. Both groups created on the same show albeit in different settings/ countries. 1. All were strangers to each other but you can see from the get go how LM stood together as a group against their management and stood up for each other even when x-factor judge Gary Barlow kept referring to Perrie as the Lead singer she didn't let it go to her head, she supported Jesy when she went through fat-shaming, was there for Leigh-ann when racism was tearing her down and the management was moving her into a quiet corner. Basically She and Jade stood up for the other girls and stood together as a group. They negotiated as group for better creative control, they negotiated even deciding to leave their original management. The group even supported Perrie when Zayne left her, it influenced their music. Due to this Leigh-Ann's confidence grew and so did her actualization into a confident artist. And when Jesy left, her reasons were valid, she had full support, no bad blood. 2. 5H and Camilla now were a whole different thing. A complete opposite story. When Demi and the other judges praised her, she let it go to her head and became more interested in her solo career and in herself, as a songwriter or performer. In my opinion she was selfish. The group was her claim to fame and she could have been more grateful but this is why 5H weren't the best at harmonies, stage presence and why she always seemed to try to outplay/ sing the other girls. Honestly its like she never tried to make the group work. 3. I could sense the management played a big role in this because she became central in solos, while putting Normani in the backseat (a common trend for the "black girl of the group" and in essence and that's why she never defended the other girls. I mean how does Normani go through all that and you say and do nothing? 4. Next was how she left the group, with the other girls being surprised, shocked and going through negotiations with her. Its clear management were using her and she was keen to be a solo star but she rushed it. I am sure that an original 5H reunion is not a likely thing but with LM that is more likely. But how do you manage to be racist and brown? Puzzles me to the core. She will need to appeal to her Latin sound more and try be more genuine if shes to succeed at building her career again.
Valid points. But anyone can be racist. Not just white people. Racism is racism. And it's wrong no matter who does it. I'm mixed and I know some very racist black people. I no longer talk to them.
I agree with all of this, except Jesy‘s departure from LM was actually pretty rocky. She never told the girls in person, they found out through management and social media. And her later sitting and laughing through the Nicki v Leigh fiasco rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. If anything, Jesy gave into the Camila urge to try and stand out from the group and tripped on the way out the door.
Who else remembers when her and Shawn Mendes performed at the VMA's, and an article about Shawn and Camilla's "steamy performance that left fans wondering if they are officially a couple" was leaked a few days BEFORE the vma performance took place. In other words, they wrote an article about her and Shawns performance before it happened, they used that relationship as a publicity stunt to make money, weather its legit or not. This confirmed a few things, 1) imo it confirms she doesn't care about being honest with her fans, the ones that help her make the money she will have forever most likely, (2) purposely left speculation about her relationship for clout, (3) her music is flat. No better way to describe it. Flat and boring. I could have got past all that, and still listened to her one song I like, but then she proved the dishonesty was at a much more serious level. Racism is never okay, and she can blame it on her age all she wants. I lived in a predominantly white town that had a very active KKK group. I was young and impressionable and guess what? All that did was fuel my hatred for racism and racist people even more. All it did was inspire me to become educated on things like critical race theory and police brutality. I had a Tumblr at that age too and never once did thought like that EVER cross my mind (even with super conservative parents, don't @me about your political opinion I won't reply). There is no excuse, all she should have done was SINCERELY APOLOGIZE, something she refused to swallow her pride and do.
I couldn’t care if her career go bad or lose her popularity, because she is still annoying as much. Annoying when she was in Fifth Harmony which I never found her interesting or likeable in anyway. She was definitely the centre of attention in the group, before she even went solo and left the group. Which I thought it was unfair for the rest of the girls. This is why I don’t like or have an interest in her, because she pretty much a stab her bandmate in the back when she decide to leave the group.
I wouldn’t care either, she is plain and boring. Her music isn’t really that’s good. Only Lauren, Normani, Ally and Dinah music were good and the best.
Camila has a talent but she doesn’t stand out that much even tho she brings her culture in her music isn’t enough. Also people don’t like because of the racists past and for her humour I guess.
@@donathan2933 And somehow that makes it right? Many people called them out too, but a lot of people were drowned out by their fans. and if she's getting the brunt of a bunch of black people getting tired and finally saying "No, you can't do this" so be it. But something has to change.

There's something about her that I find very hard to like. The way she left Fifth Harmony, how she acts in interviews and the way she carries herself. It just seems a bit off and fake. The girl is beautiful and can definitely sing, but her personality just doesn't do it for me. Please, don't take this as hate, it's just my personal opinion.
Let's not forget that a major reason why people called their relationship fake was because they were trying to assign a sexual orientation to Shawn Mendes that he already stated he doesn't have. Like the whole 'their relationship is fake' thing was rooted in 'fans' claiming that he must be gay instead of in their actual behaviour. Sure, Señorita was very convenient, but let's not pretend that that was what caused the 'fake relationship' rumour

don’t go yet actually did really good in the u.s and internationally, oh na na was only a promotional collaboration, and cinderella was a movie soundtrack. she just released bam bam and it’s already on the biggest playlists and rising on the charts each week so i don’t understand how people think she’s not doing well when she’s clearly working non stop and gaining from it
I hate that Romance doesn’t get appreciated because if I’m being honest, that’s the only album I listen of hers, I’m not much of a fan of her first album, romance feels more personal
Honestly, if Romance was actually bad she would have been canceled there and then. I think it underperformed because of external factors, but if people listen with an open mind it is an amazing album.
Camila was all hype and isn’t sustainable outside of a girl group! She thought she was above the group but she actually needs a group to maintain. Also, Camila is NOT a strong singer at all. I don’t like the fact she uses black rap artist to leverage her career.
Most celebrities who get called out for racism have just one tweet, or one video pulled up. Camila had countless posts of her being horrifically racist. I don't think you come back from that because it wasn't a lapse in judgement but full blown hatred that she seemed to enjoy posting.
That’s what made me not give her the time of day anymore. Generally, I choose to not engage when people bring up that X person made a problematic tweet 7 years ago, but Camila was another level of vile. She frequently shared racist content in the form of “jokes” or “memes” as if her life depended on it, some of those even directed at Normani, her group mate. While I was rooting for a Latina to take over the pop industry, I don’t want someone with that precedent to represent us. Besides, her vocals are weak and her music ain’t that good, nothing to see here tbh.
she actually only made 2-3 ones..obviously im not excusing her behavior for that as it was very wrong, but for the sake of clarifying i'm commenting. A lot of tweets were fabricated once her tumblr/tweets were discovered. As her team/her did not make a clear statement on the matter there are a lot of versions going around. one of her tweets had the n word and one was a racist joke she had liked. The rest were all fake from what ive researched and heard
@@riyajoseph5938 I saw her actual Tumblr years ago before the controversy, back when only a few people knew about it. There were way more than 2-3 posts.
It's sounds like her racist past is coming back to bite her, it's the same thing with Rachael Kirkconnell from the Bahclor franchise. She's gotten lots of heat from people that are not fans of the show, because racism does not sit well for a lot of people.
Why are people in these comments thinking her Career is over. People grow and change and she has done a lot to show that she was dumb for reposting stereotypical stuff on tumblr.. Her songs OMG, Real Friends, She Loves Control and even her New Song Oh NA NA, were poorly marketed. I think that Camila needs a New Marketing team. Those are all bops. I have a feeling her new song Bam Bam with Ed Sheeran is going to blow up if her marketing don't keep dropping the ball on her. Camila is and forever will be a star!
I’m gonna be honest I didn’t like romance, maybe with the exception of Seńorita and a few balads on the album. I 100% preferred sound in her self titled album “Camila” it made her sound unique in the American market and really portrayed the Cuban instruments and culture into it. I hope Familia is better. On the other hand I disagree about fifth harmony, I believe that had great songs and were definitely a force to be reckoned with they had good visuals, smash hits, and great performances. Although connection was lacking with Camila, when she left they definitely became stronger in their engagement with fans and each other, but y’all slept on them
When she became friends with Taylor Swift, that’s when things went wrong. Her ego boosted sky high. The tension even rose between the members . Every harmonizer was there to experience it
I kind of believe Taylor was one of the problem, when she decided to throw her a birthday party for her. Didn’t invite the members which I think was pretty shitty to me, because all the members loves Taylor as was shady on her part to do that to them.
@@DinoTechTurboCharge how do you know Taylor didn't invite them? Lauren recently supported Taylor when she replied to that Damon guy saying she does write her own songs? And Normani was one of the female artists Taylor name dropped during her billboard woman of the decade speech? Seems like they're all cool with her to me.

I couldn’t care less, if her career go bad. Or losing her popularity, because she is annoying now. As much as she when was in Fifth Harmony, which why I never found her interesting or likeable. She was definitely the centre of attention in the group, before she even went solo and left the group. Which I thought it was unfair for the rest of the girls, because they works so hard to make the group work. But Camila has to go and ruined it by doing her solo act, with Shawn Mendes while she was still in the group. Then she backstab the other girls, by leaving the group without telling them. This is why I don’t like or have an interest in her, because she pretty much stab her bandmate in the back.
Literally makes me so happy more people know about Becky
No we dont want more generic bad pop stars.
It also helps that Spanish-speaking countries (i.e Latin American countries) are incredibly racist as well. I think she’d fit right in.
@@Anguesomo wth???
Multiple things led to her downfall. The horrific marketing and roll out of the romance era. The racism controversy & problematic tumblr page resurfacing, and how poorly that was handled. Along with how uninteresting her relationship with Shawn Mendes was. All these things led to Camila becoming a joke instead of a a serious act in pop culture. Everything she did wasn’t taken seriously from performances to that Cinderella movie. She was a meme and once you become that it’s hard to pivot out of. Also part of the reason Camila has maintained her standing as the most popular 5H member is because Normani & other members like Lauren whose debut albums are highly anticipated haven’t released.
how was the marketing horrific?
Her Romance album has many great and potential hits but its just promoted badly tbh

As a black girl who used to be a big fan of hers, I can confirm that her racist controversy is one of the reasons why her career ain't
poppin like that anymore.

Nice quote 👍🏼
I think a major reason the racism stuck to her is because she sold herself as a nice girl, even a bit of a free spirit, although her driven and competitive side has always been obvious. If she had a bad girl image, came from a rough background, or had major known psychological issues, more of her fanbase might have been forgiving. But I think the killer issue is just the lack of strong material on the second album - it neither has a lot of hits, nor is it particularly interesting.

Idk it that's what OP was saying. People who start their careers as controversial people aren't that easy to cancel, it's when your fan base thinks you're one thing & you're exposed to be the opposite. I just can’t with Camilla. I know that she has taken “racial sensitivity” classes, but if you need a class not to be racist, then you’re obviously lacking common sense. It’s not simply “I took a class to not be racist” I think it’s a way to educate yourself and widen your perspective. People are influenced heavily by who they are around growing up and that could’ve been something taught. I’d consider it noble she took that extra step to right her wrongs.

As horrible as it may sound, Camila and Shawn were squeaky-clean to the point of being boring 😂
Behind the scenes, I think she has a lot of contractual issues with her label. That's why her career on questionable grounds right now.

The whole thing is fucked up
Right
i think that people "excuse" racism when an artist is like, very good. but since all camila's songs are either average or bad, not to mention very dated, people kinda forgot her. she is not even actively hated anymore, people just lost interest
I also think controversies affect women much more than men tho.

💯💯
And the thing is the other girls actually have better range than Camila too but none of 5H’s music catered to their tone or style. If you listen to how they sound live now they’re far better than what they sounded like in 5H, and far better than what Camila sounds like.
Same! She kept being pushed to the front, but I liked her voice the least out of everyone.
narru No one in the general public cares though, Camila’s “singing” and “dancing” she does on stage wasn’t enough to keep her from flopping hard in the Romance era or in the Don’t Go Yet era. Camila’s goat-like screeching barely counts as singing
She was the youngest, wasn't she? That's probably why she was prioritised. The industry wants them as young & naive as possible. She also appealed to kids the most.

@@sebbysmommy That’s exactly how I felt during that time
You all don't understand how serious it was when her fans attacked Normani back in 2016 and she did not even addressed it to defend Normani directly. She's an opportunistic artist just like Nicole from Pussycat dolls. Won't deny the fact that she's talented - but whatever is happening to her now, it's pure karma. Her music is good tho.

Her relationship with Shawn Mendes and the way she has handled her racist comments did more harm then good.
Do racists comments ever do any good?
I think they thought their PR (public relationship) would give them a boost it did give them a boost in Señorita which became a huge hit but then their relationship was so boring and fake when they’re really best friends.
Lauren and Normani have the most potential out of fifth harmony in my option, but in different ways.

She has a great voice and a few good songs

another controversy camila had during the romance era was that people accused her of copying halsey. halsey's 2017 album, hopeless fountain kingdom, had a very known and unique aesthetic attached to it. two years later romance was released and a lot of people saw that the aesthetic, font, and merch was very similar to halseys hfk and a lot of halsey fans got mad at camilla. it got so much attention that even halseys creative director (who worked on everything involving hfks aesthetic) publicly called out her and her team for copying their work.
Surprised how that was brushed over. Halsey has copied from an album cover herself though.

Personality wise I agree that's she's not your typical Marilyn Monroe, but she's always been this way
Romance was adult imo, so were her songs in her first album.
@@bleachisgoodforurhealth9946 She did for the Reputation album though. It'S just she sells more when she doesn'T do sexy.
As shown in the video
I think the girls are in a good place right now, they auditioned to be solo stars in the first place.
@@almariaghern1876 they didn't even let her sing in sledgehammer, which still annoys me to this day
Years ago I was called a hater when I mentioned that Camilla's voice grates on my ears and I didn't like it, glad other people are finally getting it.

The day she didn’t stand up for Normani I stoped taking her seriously
She is stuck with her "latina" sound which is tired already and no one cares about. Normani is the new supreme, she just needs to get a good team
I having nothing against her as a person, it just pisses me off when celebrities take pride in their ethnicity only when it suits them
Did anyone find weird that during her time in 5H, she was never marketed as ethnic. I remember Dinah,Ally, and maybe Lauren being marketed as ethnic Camila was just white girl. After she left, she suddenly found it important to show that she was latin.
"Racial healing sessions" sounds like something out of a required reading dystopian novel
I mean the fact she couldn’t even bring herself to defend Normani from her own rabid fans said enough

@@Rebecca-eg1bm yes I agree! I was expecting a much different music video. I’m not sure what, but something that captured the energy better.
Agreed 100%
Before I even knew much about fifth harmony, just watching clips of them I could tell Camila wanted to be the one that stood out, rather than them being a harmonious girl group
@@churros4613 miss girl was ruining all their harmonies 😩 like literally she couldn’t harmonize for the life of her.

These apologies are always so vague "I was uneducated" girl just address the people you insulted smh
Combine her bad music, bad vocals, and frankly obnoxious personality with some truly baffling decisions like her incredibly public and uncharismatic relationship with Shawn Mendes (did ANYONE like seeing them together?) and starring in a #girlboss remake of Cinderella that not a single person on this Earth asked for and you have a rapidly fading pop singer that no one seems to be rooting for
THIS
very happy to see I'm not the only one, I never liked her nor Mendes to begin with, they were just trendy at the right time as you said and that's why people hopped on board with them
This aged welllllll
Then the racist posts came out and added with Shawn racist tweets and I just felt bad for Normani.
shawn has racist tweets?
@@bringapow_toys2285 yes he does! And his excuse was his friends tweeted from his account
Camila was never forgiven because of not taking accountability for her racism. Instead she acted ignorant. Cuba is one of the blackest countries in Latin America, for her to lie and say she meant no harm behind her racist statements on black people was a major no no.
@Josué Lara that's a whole lie too, there are thousands of afro Mexicans
I'm pretty sure she was also racist to east asian people I dont know why it was not mentioned here, because after that her performance of one of her songs popped up but it the title was in korean.
From the few comments I could translate they were clowning her to no end. It was absolutely hilarious and well deserved.
@Josué Lara black Mexicans exist. African slavery were brought to Mexico and they and the Indigenous are the ancestors of most modern day Mexicans
I adore it when black people openly completely shit on us for being white but we can't say shit about em cuz OMG CANCELLED 🤡🌎

I wouldn’t care either, she is plain and boring. Her music isn’t really that’s good. Only Lauren, Normani, Ally and Dinah music were good and the best.
