---
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the premier late night talk show on CBS, airing at 11:35pm EST, streaming online via Paramount+, and delivered to the International Space Station on a USB drive taped to a weather balloon. Every night, viewers can expect: Comedy, humor, funny moments, witty interviews, celebrities, famous people, movie stars, bits, humorous celebrities doing bits, funny celebs, big group photos of every star from Hollywood, even the reclusive ones, plus also jokes.
Being put on the spot, she asked a wonderfully insightful question all to be answered by a sincere, profound, and beautiful response.
it was a great moment. One for the ages.
Not ANY other talk show can compare to this level of sincerity, excellent 👏
its prearanged to a certain degree, its a produced TV show after all
@@davidcohen4518 Based on what I've seen of both of them, I don't think this was scripted. They're just not as shallow as you might expect.
Nice, couldn’t have said it better myself. 👍🏼
I love that at 3:20, Stephen redirect the attention a little bit to the audience, giving Dua applause etc, because he's sensing that his guest needs a bit more time to compose her thoughts. It helped Dua Lipa to relax and start being the interviewer. It's a subtle yet highly useful skill that Stephen has, and I really admire that moment.
love that you noticed this little detail. guess you're a sensible person, who looks out for others.
that's a very great quality. :)
The profundity at 5:16 👌🏾
"Sadness is like a little bit of an emotional death but not a defeat if you can find a way to laugh about it. Because that laughter keeps you from having fear of it, and fear is the thing that keeps you from turning to evil devices to save you from the sadness.
As Robert Hayden said, 'We must never be frightened or cajoled into accepting evil as our deliverance from evil, we must keep struggling to maintain our humanity though monsters of abstraction threaten and police us.'
So if there's some relation between my faith and my comedy it's that no matter what happens you are never defeated, you must understand and see this in the light of eternity and find a way to love and laugh with each other."
Bomb!
Thanks a lot. I'm not a native speaker and was looking out for that comment! 🙏
I’m not a believer, but MAN was that profound.
Seems like a great quote to use against totalitarian vax and mask mandates.
Angry that UA-cam app wont let me copy this text
You know why this conversation is so powerfull? Because they are both willing to listen to one another. That makes it a conversation, and not two separate monologues, as it so often is when you see people being "interviewed" on tv. The fact that the question is good, and the answer thought-over, only enhances the matter. It all starts with listening.
This is on point.
Lies again? MILF Division
True!
Interviews are usually pre-planned, scripted. Artists choose questions they want to be asked. It is pretty much controlled in the entertainment biz.
@@voz5585 I don't get the impression this interview was scripted or pre-planned.
This is why Stephen will always be more than just a talk show host to me.
Stephen, Conan, Trevor, and Sean on Hot Ones are in that class for me. Intelligence and humor. Could watch these guys all day long interview and just talk
Stephen is, bar none, the smartest host out there. He’s a brilliant man.
Truth!
I've shared many of his videos with my son & my friends, profound insight & depth about so many really important things in a couple minutes🥰🤗💖
Lol why? Because he SAYS he’s a Christian but NEVER acts like it??
People continue to doubt Dua Lipa’s talent and poise, but she continues to prove them wrong. She is not only musically talented, but also very intelligent. What a great question. And Stephen’s answer was beautiful.
honestly
I could be wrong noble o but any doubt about her talent and poise as you say might have more to do with the fact that autotune has completely taken over the music industry these days. So many of these young artists rely on it to the point where it becomes difficult to tell whether or not they are actually talented. I long for the days of old before autotune when singers/performers used their actual voices.
I doubt she understood everything he said though
Being half naked and sexually suggestive in every one of her performances definitely has nothing to do with her success.
Absolutely talent alone.
Don't kid yourself.
@@xmcdddddLike you would have sitting infront of him? Anyoen would have hard time following at that pace with such public attention. However, she is a very insighftul young lady. she aint shallow!
That answer by Stephen though. This man is so intelligent and has quite a unique insight on life and how he goes about it. That answer really was quite a breath of fresh air to be honest.
Agreed
ua-cam.com/video/IeJla8JaNR8/v-deo.html
He would probably be a greater president than talk show host.
Comedian does on the spot profound riff about faith and suffering. 👏 👏👏👏👏 5 out of 5.
Yeah dude it got me emotional to listen to that part. Especially that quote. I know so many people that need to take heed to those words. Unfortunately they've chosen the life of walking away from the light instead of towards it.
I am flabbergasted at his ability to spontaneously answer her question with such profound eloquence. Two exceptionally talented people in such an impactful conversation. This is why Stephen remains my favorite talk show host. 🌴😎🌴
What do you think of the accusations of that all this is just staged.
The quotes this man can memorize and just shoot out whenever he needs to, meanwhile I can’t even remember what I’m getting from the supermarket the minute I walk in.
Memorizing quotes, poems, scripts helps keep the brain young and pliable and ward off dementia. So says the Alzheimer's Association. Following Stephen's example, I'm going to memorize quotes for Lent. 😁🙏
Butter. You need to get butter.
I need to go to the supermarket, but I can't even find my keys... 😳

Such a beautiful message and so nice to hear about someone's beliefs spreading love and diminishing fear (when so often it feels that religion is used as a means to divide people)
Aaah but God-not religion-so loved us that he gave his only begotten son so we could be one in Christ.
People tend to focus on what's bad about religion rather than what's good about it because we, in a fallen-from-grace human society, don't like anyone to tell us what to do. We like to "protest," if you will, but most of the time we don't even really know what we're protesting against or who the-powers-that-be really are, only our skewed perception of them molded by propaganda.
When you really get to know God, as Stephen said, live is about love and sacrifice. Some people aren't willing to sacrifice for those they love, let alone everyone else that doesn't love them back. That's why things are tough, a lot of us are too self-centered.
And that's why this interview hits a chord with us so well; both of them are trying their best to be less centered on self and more centered on others and giving back to others in their own ways. God bless them (and you reading this).
Religion means to bind together. You don't need religion to divide people. You just need people to divide people whether it's through religion, politics, or sports
Stephen Colbert answers to Dua Lipa question is deep. The “On the spot” question and answer that they both came up with are unreal. These are 2 talented, genuine, intelligent people.
She is such a breath of fresh air. Genuine to the core beyond her physical beauty she is so amazing. We need more entertainers like her in this world of "iTunes". Incredible "open" dialogue without a hint of bias from either side.
Same here. I feel like she is not stuck up, she is nice and lovely to everyone and she is free of bias and false values because of that I love her for real and it's my great dream is to meet her and catch up, and dialogue with her too
Wow. I just witnessed the harmony of two intelligent compassionate minds. Why don't we have leaders like that ?
Because we vote in a popularity contest with our feelings rather than a research contest with our minds. Also what Nicky said; only the rich have the money to campaign. We buy into the bs.
Wait. She said she was into activism, but activism for what? Feminist or Muslim causes because it is not easy to be both ..

I shivered at the end of his answer. Even if this was prepared, those are still strong words and should always be delivered like that. This made my day.
It can't be prepared bcuz Dua took her time to think about the question that she was going to ask
This is Synergy. It takes two very special, talented people coming together to give us this brilliant, exquisite moment. 🙏🏻❤️😍

She did an amazing job! She is such a beautiful thoughtful class act. Stephen was his usual best! Well done!!!!
Cue the UA-cam short of her gyrating against her mic stand in dozens of different costumes while half naked..
She got an amazing answer because she asked a great question. Awesome job as the interviewer. Going to be an awesome podcast
"No matter what happens, you are never defeated. You must understand and see this in the light of eternity and find some way to love and laugh with each other." (5:41) 💓💓
Oh Lord....
And this is why Stephen Colbert is who he is. A man who is so very beloved and cherished.
Dua killing it at being both a pop star and interviewer 👏🏽
Absolutely killer question that got a very deep answer. This is what an interviewer should always strive to. She nailed it.
Killing it at being Human! Both of em actually.
I've only listened to some of Dua Lipa's music and now I'm sure to listen to more. She seems to be one of those people that thinks about her words and isn't overly concerned with coming off as witty.
The question she gave Steven was unique and one that asks Stephen to be very open and direct about beliefs, but also not a gotcha question that tends to make people deflect. I get the feeling she's very earnest.
As a person, sure.
As a musician, she makes AI taking over the entertainment industry look like a welcome change.
Just wow. Stephen's offhand eloquence, brilliance and humility just slay me. Love this man. And I know almost nothing about Due Lipa, but that was an extraordinary moment that she created.
Copy that...... Great.... Well said.... That's right....
I think an inspiring and thoughtful answer always comes from a good question. I appreciate Dua and her way to form a question so that we can enjoy Stephen's intelligence.
Well that was interesting…kudos to Dua for coming up with an insightful question on the spot and Stephen for having an honest and insightful response. Will take genuine conversation over one million silly game shows on a late night talk show.
You must watch the interview of Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper. Both of them losing father when they're little and they have a good conversation about loss, sadness and faith.
It was clearly prepared
" sadness is not a defeat if you can laugh about it " -- damn ! such depth !
I came to see Dua Lipa and I saw Stephen Colbert. Damn, my man dropped some knowledge. Stephen has the capacity to dive deep into his philosophy and thought process, and translate it into a life of dignity, while giving humanity in his words and how he walks through life.
Wow, both Dua and Stephen delivered so much more than the usual talk show offers! Thank you!
I love how he balances his faith and his career. He is so emotionally intelligent I love how he speaks freely about his spirituality but is not rigid about it. Thank you Stephen Colbert for being so authentic.
It's a fine balance to strike. Some people think he's too flexible with it, others thing he's not flexible enough. No one really knows how hard it is to strike that balance unless you've also been in the eye of the public. Kudos to him for trying his best and succeeding.
It's great how his beliefs are not a club to pound people into submission. It's a personal thing, how he survives the craziness
@@lenawagenfuehr53 well yea, he’s not there to judge the sinners. God will. And the sinners can play all the mental gymnastics they want to deny their heinous acts but before God, it’s meaningless.
I don't really care about his faith. But I like him.
Great that she was smart and confident enough to take her time and ask a question that was almost certain to illicit an interesting answer 👏
For his part you can tell he’s thought deeply about that intersection of two important parts of his life, but he showed what a pro he is by spinning his answer into both an entertaining anecdote and a very profound mini meditation on some of the most important things elements of human existence 🙌
You're thinking, oh she's on the spot, it'll be a silly question or something, but then she blows you away with a deep question. Love her.
I think these are two of my favourite famous people. Both of them are so articulate, intelligent and kind, and make me smile as I listen to their work.
That was a very interesting question Dua posed and as ever, we are reminded what an intelligent man Stephen is with that answer.
I cannot believe Stephen Colbert formulated such profound, eloquent answer basically immediately. He truly is successful for a good reason
I miss the deep interviews Stephen used to do with a higher density of intellectuals when he started this show. This was wonderful and heartwarming to watch. Highly talented guest, and one of the most brilliant and smartest talk show hosts ever.♡
I absolutely loved this interview. It seems very old school in its delivery and was actually very insightful. No stupid jokes. Just very authentic conversation
Beautiful✨✨✨ Stephen is a light that God uses to bless many. His genuineness about his love of Jesus and about life in general is his power✊🏾
I had goosebumps all over my body when Steven answered Duas question.
Goosebumps.....hmmmm....why?
For her age, she is very mature. As well as stunning !
she is 27 ...

The thing I love most about Colbert, more than his memorized quotes, is his real love for his wife. That isn't rehearsed, that is true.
I'm not religious myself, but I truly love when Stephen shares this more personal side of himself. The way he talks about his faith is so honest and intelligent that I think it comforts people in a universal way, not just if you are christian...Also Catholics always have so many quotes memorized lol I'm impressed
@loudgrape28 Oh, does he quote Christian things from the Bible or Christian theologians? I'm going to watch more of Stephen as I haven't been aware of him very much. But in his answer to Dua he quoted poet Robert Hayden who converted to the Bahai faith.
@@LoveFaithLive He does a bit of both. But he’s very well read, so you’ll find he quotes a lot of people and authors from other faiths, or none at all.
@@LoveFaithLive watch his faith in action video with Fr. James Martin SJ. And basically any video of them together. Part of the beauty of Catholicism is that it is universal and we can pull from non-Catholic sources to illustrate universal Truth and presence of God. As a Catholic and theology graduate student, I find excellent pieces of theology in many works that seek to be theological or spiritual in nature. But one non-Catholic religious writer I find enlightening is Lao Tzu. Food for thought, I guess.
Me, a Catholic, that has most of the Twilight (books and movies) memorized… 🤣🤣
I mean I also can quote Scripture, but that’s not as funny/memorable. Haha.
Jesus loves you. Just wanna tell you that and if you give Him a chance in your life and you wont regret it :) Blessings
After coming across more and more of Stephen's interviews here on UA-cam I've certainly noticed the reverence he holds for many of his guests, and his inclination towards sharing truly genuine, human conversations on his platform. It really has been so refreshing to see. Then I come across this, and as a Catholic who is also navigating how a life of faith overlaps with the world of entertainment Stephen's beautiful response really hit me. If I wasn't a Colbert fan before, I definitely am now, and so inspired by his intelligence, his authenticity and his way of words.
Often when people take offense to a joke, it's because the comedian is speaking about something dark, sad and painful. Racism, violence, etc. What they don't understand is the point that Colbert made here. That comedy, as long as its intentions are pure and good, is a way to lift us out of the darkness. If we can laugh at our most painful moments, we can rise above it. A form of catharsis. A salve for our wounded souls.
Yes!
Too many people say something cruel and then laugh hysterically -- but that is NOT comedy.
True comedy lifts one's emotions and transcends sadness and pain.
I doubt Trump would agree.. he’s been the butt of many of Stephen’s jokes
This is up there with Keanu's answer when Stephen asked what will happen after we die.
I’ve raised my now adult children to find laughter in everything. And they do.
Great question, great answer. And so in depth, without hesitation, without cue cards. Pretty amazing. Stephen obviously is very clear about his path in life, why he does what he does, what it means to him, and how it ties into others and the world around him. Every time I think I can't admire this man more, he impresses me yet again.
Stephen plays the goofy fool so well that we tend to forget how incredibly intelligent he is.
What a wonderful moment. Thanks to both for this conversation and refreshing honesty
“It is the test of a good religion whether you can joke about it.” - G. K. Chesterton, a very funny Catholic.
Colbert mic drop… Demonstrating the intersections between faith, reason, and having a sense of humor about it all.
Her question was excellent and his answer was so thoughtful.
If ever I had forgotten why I enjoy watching Stephen so much, his answer to her question is definitely a reminder. Also Dua Lipa is just amazing.
Wow the question was splendid on dua side, but man what a character, Stephen just killed it with his answer. There was lots of wisdom in it that make me respect Stephen even more.
4:18 Absolutely, it does! I thought it was pretty funny when he said "Jesus hung out with tax collectors and prostitutes. You know you'd never catch a conservative with a tax collector."
He nails the truth at the same time that he makes people laugh. It's like being in the best and most honest church ever.
Blown away by the energy and authenticity of this guy. Kudos to you SC!
OMG Stephen, what a profound answer! thank you for sharing, and Dua what an amazing question, you definitely got an interviewer in you!
I am sooooooooooo turned off by religious types.. the hypocrisy and pretzel logic.. but.. Stephen's answer was BRILLIANT and literally made me weep.. he's a national treasure!!!! 💕
Holy Spirit filled man🥰 This is what Jesus said in the bible about how to answer; And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, 9but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. 10And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. 11And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

The only thing more mesmerizing then Dua Lipa at this moment is her shiny green nail polish. I legit feel like a crow distracted by a bright shiny object as she's moving her hands while she talks.
I noticed it too. Beautiful with the classic black dress.
I have always really enjoyed when Stephen is interviewed by others. His warmth and sincerity shine through so strongly.
Having a segment called "Ask Stephen" would be incredibly fun!
To hear Stephen come up with that response at the snap of a finger means that it is something ingrained in him, something he totally lives by. You can't come up with something so profound and clear without believing and breathing it.
So very true!
Greetings Mr. Colbert, that was such a beautiful response to how your faith and comedy come to terms with each other. I find myself in tears from your grace and eloquence. I am sincerely grateful, and humbled, for having heard what you said. Shout out to Dua Lipa for initiating this wonderful exchange.
This girl is amazing. Met her in person in London. She’s so lovely in person as she is in interviews.
Dua with an awesome question and Stephen with that awesome answer! Dropped pearls of wisdom!!
What a brilliant woman. She is a gift. I am also impressed by Stephen’s reply to Duo’s question on faith and comedy.
I love Stephen's answer about his faith and his comedy. Well done! Brilliant!
"Oh that's interesting" Stephen when he realised the direction of the question Dua was going to ask.
Jon Stewart once said that Stephen Colbert was the smartest person in comedy he knew.
Boy ,he was no wrong. Such an eloquent thoughtful answer.
Wow, impressive question and incredible answer. The flow of words from him, being open, authentic, and vulnerable is so wonderful. Wow
Being able to pull quotations like that isn't just a skill, it's a gift of intellect and learnedness.
Dua took a lot of air time thinking, but it wasn't,at all awkward. & she found a question I think many of us would like to ask Steven.
His answer was gorgeous, profound & wise.
Stephen totally saved her during the dead airtime, acting like he was being interviewed for the first time on the show, gracefully giving her a chance to come up with a question.
Brilliant Stephen. Such a kind, wise heart you have.
Dude…that was an amazingly thoughtful question and the answer did not disappoint. Stephen took us to the school of life real quick. I loved every minute of it. ❤️😎😍
Stepen, thank you so much for that answer, and to the lovely lady for the question. This speaks directly to me in my life. That faith thing again, you know.
I thought I was just clicking on a Dua Lipa interview but I ended up getting so much inspiration out of this
Stephen delivered a truly profound answer to an off-the-cuff, thought-provoking question!
What’s even more crazy, is that Stephen has gone through terrible tragedy in his life. His dad and two brothers died in one of the worst plane crashes in history. So it gives you the context when he talks about “sadness.” And how much weight he had to endure and overcome, through laughter.
Thank you Stephen Colbert, for battling through your sadness and fear, to help us through ours, and find hope at the other end.
That thought of laughter being the one thing that can prevent you from evil devices to escape sadness... great stuff Stephen, great stuff
Stephen is so articulate with his thoughts & Dua, what a question on the spot! 💕👍
Oh how we need more Stephen Colberts in this world! He’s so right about fear. It’s the opposite of love, and the genesis of hatred. If we all could just remember that everyone is always either being loving or, because they’re so terribly frightened, asking TO be loved. A great source for study of this concept? A Course in Miracles. It says in one section (to paraphrase) that we had the “tiny mad idea” that we separated from our Source, and then we forgot to laugh at such a silly notion. I love the idea that the Divine has a sense of humor!😉
Thanks, Stephen!💖🙏🏼💖
That was a perfect answer to a perfect question!
Great response being interviewed Stephen! It was actually helpful to hear that right now rewind and repeat 👍 Nice 🙂
What a change of role and what a meaningful response from Stephen!!

That was beautiful Stephen 💙.
Thank you for feeling called to ask that question Dua 🙂.
He has a strong faith and a strong intellect. Quite the combination. Lucky Evie🥰
And that response is one of the main reasons I respect and admire Stephen Colbert.
What a question! And of course, needless to say, Stephen Colbert - More than just a host. An absolute gem
I loved how Stephen bought a bit more time for her when he said : 'I love your show.'
Great answer from Stephen, but it would be even better if he said, "...and fear is, as Frank Herbert wrote, the mind killer."
the first time I watched him interview, I was hit like "This guy is amazing" and i don't always say that about hosts hahaha! amazing
So stunning. She has shown herself to be beautiful inside and out. She's the only artist in the past decade that has impressed me.
I like Dua Lipa and Paris Jackson. Both deep, intelligent, compassionate people. It reflects in their excellent music.
At first i was taken and amazed by the beauty of Dua Lipa and then Stephen did his thing answering Dua Lipa´s question and i was like this is why Stphen Colbert is Stephen Colbert. Great answer to a great question!!!

I don't usually listen to comedy because it usually crosses boundaries with bad language. Thanks to you, Dua Lipa, for asking that question. And reading the comments showed me he is well thought of. I will be following you, Jimmy, from now on. I'm also a Christian and I'm Baptist, but that doesnt matter. In God's eyes we're all the same. His children. Dua Lipa, I'm 61 and thoroughly love your shows online and your music. I think I've listened to all of them at this point.
