    I bought these a year ago to live on my desk. I use them for listening and some mixing. I like them very much. Very engaging and detailed. A little eq makes them thump! My wife prefers them to the Buchardt A500 in the living room. I say apples and oranges. I like both for different reasons. I liken them to LCD-X’s on your desk.

    Great review! I own the HEDD TYPE07 MKII and love them. I use them for producing EDM. You can disable the standby option via the HEDD software. just connect each monitor via UTP cable and disable it.. simple as that. this way you can also perform updates for your monitors.

    Watching Thomas get the name out reminds me of high school. I grew up playing tennis, and Head is a top brand in the sport. I bought some of their shoes and wore them one day. My extrovert friend saw them and all of a sudden pointed toward my shoes, screaming "HEAD!!!" in the middle of the cafeteria. Funny now, but horrifying in 1988 lol. Great review, Thomas!

    Thomas, as always, great content. And timely, I’m shopping for a powered monitor for a desktop set up. HEDD, PMC, Dynaudio are all being considered. I read that HEDD can be noisy when idle, hiss distractingly high in nearfield. But great to hear that wasn’t your experience! And I wanted a monitor that is listenable…sounds like this checks that box. HEDD is back on my list!

    Great review, love your style. I own HEDD t07 mk1 for about 2 years now. In the sweet spot, in combination with SVS SB2000 sub in my makeshift treated room, they are really mesmerizing. Deep soundstage, good imaging, rich in detail and oomph.
    I also own Monitor Audio RS6, love that you liked them also. I feel like getting the audiophile experience without spending all my savings. Thanks for your reviews Thomas.

    I recently went to a audio show in Florida. They had a 1 million USD system there amongst many 50k to 100k systems. Several noticable reviews were present at the event. Although I was impressed with many of the display rooms equipment, one that impressed me was an active speaker DSP driven system. These speakers could not have utilized passive crossovers due to the complexity of their configurations. There is something to be said about the active speaker, but it's difficult to crack into the market because people generally want a separate amp and such. The greatest benefit I had in attending the exhibition, is that it showed me how good my systems were compared to much more expensive rigs. In fact, I truly felt that my own fear was better than about 75% of the systems at the show, but to be fair, I was only spending about half an hour with each of those and they were set up in hotel rooms. Anyway, if you can put a system together around 10-15K, chances are you've hit the sweet spot on value for $. Spending more may get you little more than styling and bragging rights.

      I've noticed similar. My small room gets much better bass response with my cheaper towers than 20k towers in a casual showroom, and my decay has to be significantly better than the showroom with my double carpeted floor, blanketed couch to protect from the cat, and slanted ceiling/roof that takes even more air volume out of the space.

    Great review. Finally a ,,Hifi / Audiophile,, Channel that pay a little bit attention to an completly overlooked market from 99% of the Audiohpiles. I personally use Monitors (KSDigital c88, Neumann KH120 & 310 and now Unity Audio SuperRock) since Years and love the sound. Would be great to see more Products out of this category. Like PSI Audio, Unity Audio, ATC ...so much interesting concepts. @7:55 i think thats just a wrong interpretation from a lot of ,,audiophiles,, - just because its Active, its not automatically a bad product. To switch Amps and Cables to get a ,,better,, sound is (for me) a big misconception and sometimes imagination... and i swear the most people who write monitors dont sound good didnt even listen to them or try them out over a long period of time. A good Studiomonitor dont sound boring BUT the bad Stuff sounds bad and the really good recordings sounds exceptional where ,,normal,, hifi speakers are tuned that everything sounds at least okey / listenable

      For people like me studio monitors are not "okey/listenable" for every thing on our playlist. Thats why we opt for hifi speakers. Active speakers shine exceptional in really good recordings but most of that shit is jazz/orchestral. Not for me.

    • @vtkz
      @vtkz 2 роки тому +2

      @@Leo-yn5fx why is Jazz the only Genre ? The Plugins gets better, the DAWs for Producing gets better. There are tons of Genres with stunning recordings (otherwise i wouldnt own Studiomonitors). With Hifi Speaker you listen and can enjoy nearly ever Music because theyre a lot of the times not acourate, muddy and they must sound good. With well build Monitors you can listen to all of the details and discover music in a different way + the good music sounds even better. And there is where the whole thing ,,Audiophile,, is starting getting nonsense for me, i listen since years with Active ones and can concentrate on the most important part room acoustic. And not what cables are better or if a 900eur Amp sounds better than the 800eur. This Gear Chase is nonsense for me

    Hey Thomas! Great review but, did I hear you mention that it didn't have a DAC built in? Because it does have that feature. That's what the AES input if for. I just wish they also had a Dante option like the MK1. Also, because all the tuning is done digitally, not using the digital input means that your audio has to go through an additional AD conversion.

I have removed a high quality DAC from my system and just use the digital signal so less conversions and losses in the chain. I use Adam Audio S3V which are active and have a built in DSP. Wait . . . . my cellphone has a calculator???
    I've never owned a pair of active speakers, but have always been intrigued by the concept.

    But I would always want to add a well matched tube pre-amp for more flavor!

    • @vikassm
      @vikassm 2 роки тому +1

      On the other end of the spectrum, I've never owned a pair of passive speakers 😂
      As a byproduct of working in the industry, I've always had access to active PA speakers (far-field listening) or Active studio monitors (desktop/nearfield listening). Usually from manufacturers not well known in Hifi circles (Alto professional, MX, Stranger, Samson, and hundreds more no-name speakers)
      Usually these are devoid of any impact below 40hz, which is well and good considering the small rooms they're used in 😂
      For the living room I've tried various PA subs, unsurprisingly they're far from suitable due to the huge footprint & overpowering bass.
      One thing that's always been true, a really good (tube) preamp can make your music sound refreshingly "Open". For me the ideal combination would be open baffle full range line arrays powered by class D along with 2 or 4 good old sealed subs powered by class AB amps. Obviously all driven by the one really good source/preamp.

I listened to the high end Tensor series, big floorstanders to appeal to the hifi enthousiast about 10 years ago. i guess they are discontinued and they were the best for me on the show except from the Steinway Lyngdorf model d speaker. I tried a pair of HEDD TYPE 05 MK 2 monitors. They were very detailed but the DSP caused too mush irritating distortion which most studio engineers can't hear. I listened to then at my desk with the ports closed and the bass was very accurate and refined. I returned them for an agreed 10% loss from Westwood Audio and had to get the credit company to get the refund. I will never deal with Westwood Audio again. I also contacted Klaus Heintz, who I have known for over twenty years as I was the first dealer in the USA to import his passive ADAM monitor consumer, and got no response from him nor the USA distributor. I do like the AMT tweeters in the ELAC Vela speakers.
    I has been awhile but I remember a download upgrade to reduce the warn up time.

    a studio monitor should not used in a living room, they sound flat and have another purpose: they are suitable for the studio only. If there are studio monitors what have a dynamic sound they are not real studio monitors... I lost many subscribers when I made a video that the popular cult speakers from JBL like the L100 and 4312A but als the tandberg studio monitor are useless for the livingroom but I had to make this video because it's the truth.

      I use Monitors simce many Years for listening. So i did something wrong ? ;-)
      Monitors (in combination with room acoustic) should sound just real. Goog sounds good, bad sounds bad. What is dynamic for you ? Dynamic is for me the Difference between Quiet and Loud Parts in a Song. How long and what Monitors do you test out at home to say that ?

      @@vintagestereo its all about listening and what you prefer with your system. I know so much people who use studiogear (Neumann, Genelec, ATC and more) in their living room / music room. I dont want to start passive vs active discussion but you get so much quality out of these products. A good monitor is in most cases also a good speaker for music listening. Good music sounds good, bad sounds bad. And where do you read that Engineers dont recommend Monitors at home ? At the end trust your ears not the Marketing or Hifi Reviews. I listen to tons of system and the studio gear / active is still for my taste the best way. I wouldnt sell my Speakers for any coloured ,,Consumer,, Hifi Stuff
      You say no Monitor sounds dynamic wich is (sorry) not true. Dynamic has a lot to do with room acoustic and also what is the source file. When the Final Master has Dynamic (passages between quiet and loud parts) good speakers will deliver that - that has nothing to do with Studiomonitor or Hifi

    I'm interested in what you mean by "boring" flat. I've never been bored by a speaker that was designed with a flat FR, properly integrated with subs, and tuned to my room with a slight house curve. It's these kinds of speakers that our music and movies are mixed and mastered on. Properly integrated into a room, they will give you the true artist's intent for how they wanted their music or movie to sound.
    In fact, I would argue that any speaker that comes from a factory who's FR is not flat and who's directivity is uncontrolled, is just..... wrong. Poorly engineered.

    Would have upthumbed you twice if you had called them “HE!! Double D!!” when you named them. With a flourish and some exaggerated bass in your voice.
    As it is, only one upthumb, but otherwise great vid. :)
    Edit - AMT tweeter excellent for sultry female voices, country twang, and jazz. Horns aren’t as shiny, but I find too much of that a bit grating.

    Yet again another review of a loudspeaker that doesn't mention dynamics. Disappointed. I can get any 6 dozen loudspeakers that are clear, uncolored, detailed, and musical sounding. Do they jump, thump, and pump or what?!
