These use dsp so signal should stay digital when fed a digital singal. What your saying is how you have them connected now via the analog inputs. Edit* Subs have aes through to keep it all digitial

Hi, The PSI A21M and Genelec 8351B have excellent reviews and I would be tempted to buy the Genelec’s on looks alone! The problem for me is they are both not 3 way speakers and this was a must, as I have tried 3 sets of 2 way monitors with and without a sub and I felt I was missing some frequencies, as I wasn't able to hear them that easily. The 4 inch driver just gives out a clear sound and the ribbon tweeters appear soft to the ear, not brittle on these Type 20’s. Having a speaker trying to do it all is tricky. I would love to compare these with other speakers of the same price bracket but no manufacturer has offered. I’m still waiting…....
@@morespinach9832 Hi.The PSI Audio A23 is a lot of money. The other concern is the power output it seems a bit low. The hedd are 300watt and these are 140 which may be a bit low depending on your space. I have just found out that the Genelec have 2 hidden woofers with good power so yeah sound like they could be good. As you say shame they can't be compared.......
The Type 20’s do not need burn in time. They are already burned in at the factory. This was told to me by the CEO of HEDD. The Type 20’s go to 30hz max. A good sub is required to have a full range system with these monitors. These need a very well treated room to shine They are not great in a semi-untreated room
Yeah I don't know if the early ones that I got, were burnt in, but yeah he said they are burnt in now in the factory. I have mine connected to a sub and my room is heavily treated. The speakers sound awesome just lacking a little punch. Being a 3 way they certanily let you know when your mix isn't right, as it just sounds off, really good to mix on, I can trust them completly. I take it you have some?
Yes I do actually. I love them. I hqppen to be a professional mastering engineer and I use the type 20’s everyday and trust them. They are extremely under priced and underrated
@@Limit5482 I'm supprised they don't get more recognition. It's hard to find a monitor that sound fantastic and yet so acurate. I don't need to mess around with trying mixes everywhere, I just mix and if it's good on the 20's its good everywhere. I have mine with the port closed and as I said run a sub so the bass drivers aren't overworking and I can turn the sub off to hear better when mixing. Have you a youtube? Be good to see your setup.
How are these to listen to compared to the vxt and previous monitors you had? I´ve only heard previous Eve monitors a few years ago with similar tweeter and thought they were a bit too analytical in the sense that they sounded extremely sharp or harsh. whilst krk for instance are super soft,
I haven't noticed them being harsh. They are really precise and give an excellent feedback about the music. The vxt sound amazing to listen to but all over the place so it's hard to mix accurately, as they fill the room with great sound. You need to know where everything is if that makes sence.
I have the Type 7s, and love them. The only complaint I have is that the knobs on the back are loose on both, and they vibrate when very powerful low frequencies are present. I had to take the knobs off and put a rubber band where they mount to dampen them.
Hi. I have checked the back and I see what you mean the knobs have a tiny little bit of play in some of them. At the moment this hasn't happened to mine so no rattles but I hope it doesn't mean a future problem. Thanks for the msg. Can you not take yours back?

It only happens when playing really boomy, low-frequency stuff, like maybe I dialed a tone on my baritone guitar thats too bass-heavy, and it only seems to happen on the volume knob so far. I might write customer support and just see what they say, but the fix is easy enough, and they are fantastic speakers otherwise. If it starts happening with other knobs, I will definitely make a fuss about it. I am a month past the "return window", but I would hope if the issue develops further that the company would stand behind their product and do something to remedy it.

To be honest I think you are pushing it. These are really full of bass and I think you may have issues. If the room starts to flex it will give you false feedback. I would ask someone in acoustics maybe or go to a shop if you can see what they say.

@@rao.4354 I guess if they said you can then take there word for it. The dsp is on the back of the speakers. I guess you could have them not ported and adjust the bass etc for your room. That may help balance them out. They are pretty loud.....
@@rao.4354 I have them quite close so the speakers are only 1m apart from the inside edge and 1.6m to the outside edge of the speaker and 4ft away from my head sounds good. If you turn them up they sound a lot more Bassey the further you go as I said in the video about 3-4m away the bass really hits.
Thank You for your review! One of the main reasons for my interest in these is the fact it can be sealed. The only other sealed 3-way studio monitor is the Neumann Kh310a and some speakers in the Blue Sky brand which are disocntinued. I wonder if the hedd type 30 mk2 would be better sealed than type 20 mk2 because of its dual woofer to get that definition, accuracy and more bass I currently have focal Trio 11 and Focal Shape twin which are sealed but with a passive radiator. The twins have something special about them an effortlesness which may due to better transient response from speakers that dont have ports. Ive heard sealed hifi speakers and percieve this as well like they are more accurate. The trios are better and very special in their own way but they are not smooth when there is to much going on in a song a bloatedness if you will at higher volumes as well. the trios have ports for midrange and bass maybe this is why. You should try the digital input Ive heard people saying that using the digital input especially with monitors that use dsp for crossovers can be a huuuuge improvement in sound qualit over their analog inputs. Currently the speakers I want to demo are the 1) Neumann kh310s 2)Hedd type 30 mk2 3)Kali Audio in-5 4) Swan M5a mkii digital 3-way speaker 5) swan m300mkii The swans are hifi digital active 3-way monitors. I have Kali in-5 coming in to try but hopefully Showrooms in LA open up soon I dont want to buy other ones to demo them. You should get isoacoustic stands well worth it they will sound even better.
The type 30 would be very impressive especially as having more power and bass. They were maybe too big and too expensive for me. I will look into the digital thing, so thanks. Speakers stands just decouple them from your desk etc. I now have them on large rubber feet and the wood they sit on sits on rubber so I don't get any vibrations on my desk only when I turn them up and that is from the bass coming out not the speaker not the vibraions, if you know what I mean.
How far apart do you have them? I have been told that the bass response changes drastically depending on the width in which you place them. I am waiting for mine to be delivered so I haven't tested these yet.
I have them just about a 1meter or just over 3 feet from the inside edge of each speaker. I don't know about moving them as I can't go out anymore due to uprights in the way. I do know when I sit at the back of the room the bass is unreal as it hits the wall and is much stronger but that would happen on most powerful speakers. Have a mess around and find the spot that works for you. I haven't got them 30 degrees angled in, as I like to listen further back too. Let me know how you get on.
You can try klotz titanium cables, they are microphone cables but you can use them as interconnect and they are the absolute best I ever tried (I tried about 20 different cables)
Alex, I've been considering returning my footprint 02's for these, I love the tightness of the lows of the Barefoots but these certainly look promising. Curious on your thoughts.
I've not heard the footprints. I would say they may be more punchy than the Hedd. The Hedd have a really low bass not so much punch but again they have so much flexibility to change how they come across. Ported or not and all the other adjustments mean you can tailor them to suit. It's a shame there isn't more reviews. They give you a lot of detail though which really helps you mix.

Yeah really good thanks. I'm trying to get hold of the Hedd subs to try out and demo the subs so keep an eye out as I'll do a vid. I think the 8 inch would pair well maybe give me that punch and a bit more depth. I have a vid of the Adams A77x's coming too. Cheaper but not as accurate.

Yeah all of them were really good to be honest, it just seemed more sound came out of the A77H, which doesn't mean it will be better for mixing but for listening I think so.
Hi, sorry I thought you meant the Adam 07. I personally would always try and get a 3 way speaker but I think the Hedd are slightly more revelling but they cost more than the A series. I would try them out if you can, find as shop that sell them.
Hi, only just found this comment. The reason is they may have been too quiet. They have 185watts 100watts and 50watts where the head have 300watts +300watts +300watts each speaker. In treated rooms you need quite a bit of power as the energy gets sucked into the treatment. Also I wanted all the flexibility of the Head.
@Clinton Stewart Not sure to be honest but you do have the option of ported and unported plus other features that help with the sound of the monitor so maybe more flexibility? Both speakers are gonna work well.
Get for a test good power cables, and than you can thank me :) and yes, every audio component needs to burin in, especially speakers, but calbes as well - quatum mechanichs in play here, electricy is flow of electrons and atoms in cables needs to adjust to the flow. This is my udnerstanding why they sound different after time, and yes I tested. Did even cables myself to investigate this subject :) Lack of bass means you sitting in a room mode.
A lot of people say the cables don’t make a difference but they do and I believe it’s all in the connectors at each end. I didn’t know they had to burn in though too, interesting. The bass issue could have been many things. I did sit in and walk around the room as I know about the problems of modes etc. But all sorted and still really happy with the speakers. Had Adams A3x, 5x and 7x couple years ago and still remember ATM tweeter, hence when I found out Klaus started new project I am interested :) I have also serious hifi system and tested different furutech power cables with the same connectors (viborg gold) and each cable sounded bit different. Biggest advantage u get by using good power cables is banace. With standard power cables you get: boomy bass, sharp top end, and backed mid... This is why I am encouraging to borrow good power cable and test. One can be shocked how much difference there is. I suspect active speakers will react similar to passive system - as this is combo, amp plus speaker at the end :)

Hi. That's cool. Experiment around with them to suit your room and you will be really happy. Didn't take too long to find my best combination of settings. I have them quite close, they are just about 1m apart. That is between the inside edges of the speakers. It gives me that triangle that you are recommended to have. They are pretty big so you need big stands too. I have them on rubber pucks and on a solid wood structure. Remember to get decent cables and push them firmly in. Let me know how you like them if you can.
@@Drumbaseuk Received the hedds a week ago. They are fantastic, amazing sound and look. The only issue is that the right speaker is about 6db louder than the left one but I paired their volume by adjusting the gain on the rear panel.
@@tomr6724 Glad you like them. That is strange regarding the volume. Try changing the speakers round, I know that would be the wrong way they go, but just to make sure it is a speaker issue. If it is maybe speak to the supplier.
@yuddha 108 Mixing is fine because once I paired their volumes they works fine (at least to my ears). I asked directly to Hedd support and they said that is not normal to have 6dB difference in volume so I'm going to replace/repair the faulty loudspeaker.

I suspect active speakers will react similar to passive system - as this is combo, amp plus speaker at the end :)
@@kennigt A youtube channel I watch is PS Audio and they said the power cables make a difference too. I'm gonna look at maybe upgrading the power cables see if it does anything,

Hi. That's cool. Experiment around with them to suit your room and you will be really happy. Didn't take too long to find my best combination of settings. I have them quite close, they are just about 1m apart. That is between the inside edges of the speakers. It gives me that triangle that you are recommended to have. They are pretty big so you need big stands too. I have them on rubber pucks and on a solid wood structure. Remember to get decent cables and push them firmly in. Let me know how you like them if you can.
@@Drumbaseuk Received the hedds a week ago. They are fantastic, amazing sound and look. The only issue is that the right speaker is about 6db louder than the left one but I paired their volume by adjusting the gain on the rear panel.
@@tomr6724 Glad you like them. That is strange regarding the volume. Try changing the speakers round, I know that would be the wrong way they go, but just to make sure it is a speaker issue. If it is maybe speak to the supplier.
@@Drumbaseuk Yes it's a speaker issue. I read the manual and it says "Use the GAIN control to compensate for any level differences".
@yuddha 108 Mixing is fine because once I paired their volumes they works fine (at least to my ears).
I asked directly to Hedd support and they said that is not normal to have 6dB difference in volume so I'm going to replace/repair the faulty loudspeaker.
