    Thanks for the review, I was not fully aware of HEDD speakers’ features. But the most unbelieavable part is to realize that my 20 years old small cheap die-cast alu 2-way Genelecs are very detailed and revealing with very good imaging. I easily heard the crackle at 1:09 in the Phoenix track that you mentioned. If I ever upgrade to any 3-way solution, it will be because of dedicated midrange woofer, DSP and life can be much easier without sub in a small studio. : ) Looking forward to detailed measurements and reviews of Adam A8H and A77H. But now this HEDD is on my radar... the lineariser and CoP features are very appealing. With onboard room correction DSP it could be a go go. Maybe in Mk3 version.

    First of all... great review. Really honest and clearly explained. I own the HEDDS Type07 MKII's and love them. Also calibrated with Sonarworks SoundID. I produce/mix/master music on them but they are also great HiFi speakers 😊.
    You can disable the Standby mode of the speakers via HEDD software. Just connect an UTP cable into each monitor separately to your computer and run the HEDD software. My speakers are now always on.

    I have the type 07 and ive done that test with the crackle for so many songs and too thought it was the tweeters on them. Checked on many headphones and heard the same. Crazy. They are 2 way also and they have revealed so much more.

    I demo'd these the other day at a pro audio store and they blew me away. Went there to try the genelec 8341s and after going through about 4 other sets of speakers the Hedd type 20 were my favorites BY FAR. Going to demo them in my own set up and see how they work out. I hope they work well in my room because the sound is incredible.

    I did hear the Phoenix crackle on my Focal Shape Twin speakers, which have “M”-shaped aluminium/magnesium inverted dome tweeters, so apparently they're more transparent than the beryllium ones by Focal. The Hedds also looked good to me, but they're too large for my space and the Shape Twins are sealed (2.5 way), which really appealed to me.

    • @Truth565
      @Truth565 2 роки тому

      I'm also a user of Focal Shape Twins. Just for ref, the Beryllium tweeters on the Be range is supposed to be more transparent, and also technically the are not sealed, they have passive radiators, but I do still think the sound better than ported monitors in the same price range.

    I’ve been looking for a 3way monitoring system and these came up during my search. Great informational video. I wish I could hear these but where I live I don’t have a real music store that would bring this types of gear in just to field test. I’m on the fence with these and the Adam A8H monitors. I currently use A7x and love them.

    Anyone who has used these monitors... is adding a subwoofer necessary? Or is the power from these 3-ways enough to hold their own?

    • @rudyonmars
      @rudyonmars 2 роки тому +1

      I have the Type 20 mk2 monitors with a Bass 12. Had the monitors first and they can absolutely hold their own without a sub. To me, the Bass 12 just gives a better sense of resolution/texture/depth - think 4k vs. 5k- It's already good/believable now it just 'feels' real. What stands out the most about these monitors/sub compared to others is the low-end detail, they really articulate the bass unlike anything I've ever heard.

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  2 роки тому +2

      I would love to test with a HEDD subwoofer but they didn’t send one over. The low frequency extension purely from the Type 20s is remarkable tho.

    Not sure about the statement "High frequency sound travels at a different speed to low frequency" Is that so? I've found several sources that seem to say that if there IS a frequency related variation in speed, then it is pretty small. Is the Lineariser more to effect, via DSP, the time difference between the speakers, much in the same way that some speakers have baffles such that the voice coils are aligned vertically to attempt to reduce any phase difference?

      @ManchesterMusic  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the kind words. I wouldn’t say the quality is any better or worse than the Solo6 series. You’re comparing two dedicated, high quality loudspeaker manufacturers at this point. That being said he CoP system from the HEDDS is very unique and offers a nice differentiator. The tweeter construction is also different from the Focals, so you’ve got another differentiator there.

    thanks for the review, just wondering when using ported does it also increase the bass rolloff or does the bass rolloff stay the same, but just controls the low end a bit more? Also did you know you can extend the low end to 26hz according to the manual? do you use it or keep it at the normal 32hz?

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  2 роки тому

      Yes I am aware of the bass extension feature - I believe I called it out briefly but perhaps not.
      I can’t speak to the specific rolloff that may or may not be occurring. An email to the HEDD team might be helpful for you: info@hedd.audio
      I have heard of folks that close the ports and then enable the bass extension option to make up some of the ‘power’ they’ve lost. I did not feel the need to do so on mine.

I produce electronic music as a personal project but also do mixing and mastering for my day work, so I need something that covers all those bases well. I have a pair of Type 20 on their way, to replace Type 7 that I've had for the last two years (they're great too). Looking forward to hearing the Linearisation correction, as I had a pair of tower speakers with a tapered array of 5" Magnavox drivers in 1995 called "Phase Zero" that did just that with the aid of a "black box" processor which created a 100ms delay. DVD and 5.1 were just emerging so nobody wanted stereo (plus the 100ms delay killed lip-synch), and they sold a miserable 4 pairs of these fabulous speakers, although they did manage to move the rest of their tower stock without the processor box - as "Phase One". When the circuit was switched in the music became rich, warm and smooth whilst still having plenty of attack.

I tested the Focal sooo long ago and i haven’t tested the smaller HEDDs that would be comparable to the size of the Shape 65s. In short: no they are not. They are fine monitors, don't get me wrong, but spend the same amount of money on consumer grade high-fidelity speakers and a good amp, and you have a 1000 times better sound quality.
    The brand, the size, and the marketing as monitor is what causes the price. Not the quality nor the sound.

    Thanks for the review. How you will compare these with Adam Audio S3V, which have also new type of tweeter (S-Art). I like both from the "paper", but don't have any idea, how they really sounds. I just know, that Adam is 10kg heavier and has bigger 9" woofer, stronger amp for bass and analog AB class amp for tweeter (up to 300kHz), which maybe should be better, than some digital amps. Adams have very sharp and vivid (but still clear) mids and somebody said, that they need to play loud to be best. I don't want them for mixing, just for listening. I have enough of snake oils from so called "High-end" HiFi brands and I need solid speakers with detail without fatigue, reasonable lows around 30Hz with enough punch for small room under 20sqm, but also with ability to play well at low volumes at night. And without disturbing own noises.
