The irony and genius of Dot realising he cant save the world due to his flaws and realising that he has to work on himself is that i believe thats one of the main things that the world needs.. absolutely genius..
yeah it’s weird to think about, he legit gave the world what it needed to hear and not maybe what it wanted to hear. Especially those with similar upbringings globally. He basically alluded to the idea that everyone should be working on themselves and that would in turn make the world a better place.
I don’t think you’re giving Father Time enough credit. Childhood trauma is a HUMONGOUS factor in how someone is. If not the only. the toxic masculinity he endured as a child is how he went on about life. Men are taught to be player = Sex addiction. Men are taught to fight = toxic relationship with his girlfriend. That track to me is the most vulnerable on there. I think father wounds are more prominent in the black community though.
Its not that it doesnt have its due credit. Its that its not really the issue here. The issue that Kendrick truly wants to open up about. By talking about the issues with his father he is opening up a bit, but not truly talking about the issues he faces with himself. He has not yet taken responsibility for the actions hes made and the issues he doesnt talk about. Which you see on the later half of the album.
@@chinito398 like I said childhood trauma and how they were is a huge factor in how someone operates in this world especially in the black community. Absent dads or overly abusive dads are very prominent and to open up about that is very deep.
Father Time is one of Kendricks best songs in my opinion. When played by itself, at's a heavy and honest anthem for masculinity. We're all messed up, because we were raised by men who were also messed up, because they were raised by men who were also messed up, and on and on and on. But in the context of the whole album, it's him doing the masculine thing of blaming one thing for all of toxic masculinity. It feeds itself. Amazing.
Kendrick is speaking about himself and speaking about/to/and for his community. He’s also educating the black community about so many mental health and how to heal. This album is about shadow work and healing
I don’t know why but I always felt that MMATBS kinda held a similar experience to that of TPAB. Both albums talk about the struggle of Kendrick, with introspective lyrics that deliver a comprehensive message to the listener. And the fact that TPAB is a poem, and MMATBS is a play, they are both literature.
Ever since it came out, I've known that this album had a deeper layer. I mean, it's K-Dot: there's always a deeper meaning. But I've struggled to put words on what it was I was feeling. Your breakdowns really helped me dig deeper wirh this album. Mr Morale isn't Kendrick's best album, but it might be my favourite.
You missed the whole point of father time its not “toxic masculinity” he’s saying he’s thankful he had a dad to teach him to be a man not that it “stopped him from showing emotions”. It’s like you took one lyric from the song and just ran with it. Why do you think Kendrick said at the end he saluted his friends who “figured it out (how to be a man” without a father? It’s not that his dad gave him this trauma his dad shaped him to be a man.
I don't think either take is the wrong one. It was more than one line this dude said and both things can be true at the same time. Your dad can teach you how to be a man in his eyes, but nobody is a perfect person. At the end of the day, you might not agree with everything he said, so it's up to you to be your own man.
Great video essay but id jst like to add something about the N95 song, when he says 'Where the hypocrites at? what community feels they the only ones relevant' to me he's calling out everyone/community that thinks their more special then the rest just like the group of very few people at the top who keep the population blind to what really goes on in the world because they think their the only ones capable of keeping the 'order' .. abit tinfoily but just my thoughts after learning how corrupt our financial system is as a whole
Really enjoying your breakdowns my friend! You perspective is really interesting and you storytelling skills and edits make me feel the music all over again like its the firtst time. In my perspective I truly believe that this album is a mirror to TPAB. Look at the tracklists and listen to the songs it's so insane. United in grief is wesley's theory For free is N95 Worldwide steppers is literally the same title concept as king kunta Father time is institusionalized In rich spirit he's literally talking to a wall in the videoclip think bout it a song like silent hill is complexion and savior is how much a dollar cost and mr morale is I and auntie diaries is you aint gotta lie. Like he puts all the trauma and epiphany and character development from TPAB in new shoes to mirror it for his audience👀 Even though the catterpillar and the butterfly are completely different, they are one and the same. Kendrick is ye and nipsey Kendrick is you and me "I am all of us"~OkLama I am U
Great video. The analysis is very sound and, I believe, fairly accurate of a criticism. A few thoughts, and maybe I'm totally wrong here, but so many of your ideas are based on an assumption that his songs are autobiographical. Maybe they are and maybe they aren't. The point is that it limits the meaning of the songs to assume this. Kendrick is Mr. Morale, Kendrick is you and me, Kendrick is a character. This opens up the possibilities of meaning in the songs. Also, it's dangerous to label KL as a "sex addict." See my previous point. Challenges with lust? Sure. But the SA assumption is quite a leap. The only person who can label someone is themselves or a doctor. Again, by focusing on some diagnosis, it limits the meaning of the art. Lastly, burdening Kendrick with your expectations of what he should be is the same thing everyone did to Dylan. It's a weird projection, totallly unfair for an artist, and misplaced hope. It's not about what you want but what the artist wants/needs to say. Anyways, just a few thoughts. Appreciate your video.
LOL i love how my Abel fans will come to other videos to ask for Abel content. I'm here for that enthusiasm!!!! I will get to Echoes in the future friend
Rich spirit's music video is one of my favorite of all time. Feels so personal and real like its some silly shit we have all done ourselves at home alone boogeying like a mf
Bruh you gotta let the idolatry go lol since when did Kendrick have all the answers. I just viewed him as a great lyricist lol. This guy has to be a fan boy

Youre right. He wouldnt be able to relate to that. At least not to that degree thats why father time lacks credit

people call it a tragedy. but this is beauty in its finest form; life.
Kendrick is speaking about himself and speaking about/to/and for his community. He’s also educating the black community about so many mental health and how to heal. This album is about shadow work and healing
the world asked for him to save them and he said, worry about yourself

Both albums talk about the struggle of Kendrick, with introspective lyrics that deliver a comprehensive message to the listener. And the fact that TPAB is a poem, and MMATBS is a play, they are both literature.
I feel like TPAB was more a naive Kendrick wanting to be a savior and the MMATBS is him realizing that he can't save when he's not saved himself
All his albums have something to them. Section 80 is a Novel, GKMC is a movie, TPAB, is a poem, DAMN. is a magazine, and MM&TBS is a play.
Ever since it came out, I've known that this album had a deeper layer. I mean, it's K-Dot: there's always a deeper meaning. But I've struggled to put words on what it was I was feeling. The thing about Kendrick is his music isn’t for everybody. I mess with every albums heavy because not every album is the same.
I never realized the number he gives is united in grief is how many days between damns release and Mr morale

I mean he relates it to issues though. You don’t need to be from LA to relate to his struggles.
