Did your vehicle trigger a P0456 engine trouble code and your check engine light is on? If so, in this video I'll show you how to fix it. This is a do it yourself video so you can save money repairing your car yourself. The P0456 code on all vehicles is a very small emissions system leak. There are three main root causes: 1) your gas cap 2) your canister close valve or 3) another leak that you'll need to conduct a smoke test to find. I have 205,000 miles on my 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS, I bought this vehicle new. Every time the P0456 code has come in (about 5-6 Times in 205K miles), the problem has been my canister close valve failed.

I had p0455 on a Hyundai and this was the issue. Took me forever to figure out. Vent canister solenoid they call it. So glad that’s done

Nice video. I hope you used the jack stand you had sitting off to the side. After almost losing my life to a large vehicle falling off a jack on me, I always caution people to use them. If I see someone working under their vehicle along the street without jack stands, I stop and chew some butt. Safety first always.

I have the same problem with my hyundai santa fe, but im having problems in looking for the canister close valve. I can only find Canister Purge Valve. Are these the same?
is located in the same place and in Hyundai sonata gls 2010 ? and after u change the canister purge valve, the engine will it start as normal ?
I have a question if this piece is bad will this affect my gas tank ??

I would not be surprized if the location of that thing doesn't contribute to the problem. That should definitely not be happening that much. My Mitsubishi has that problem now but it also says the gas cap could be bad causing the problem. I replaced the cap I think about a year ago and it solved the problem for a while and now it's back again. This time I will replace the purge solenoid and probably a new cap again and keep the old one for a spare. I hope my purge solenoid isn't where yours is though! The gas cap definitely CAN cause this code though so if you have a really old one you might replace it too.
Be careful. Sometimes when you replace a part and that was not the problem it takes a long time for the code to come back especially when its a small leak at the fuel pump , until it's worse. That is actually the most common cause 2007-2009 Sonatas. When my mechanic replaced mine he insisted on using OEM because he had too many comebacks on aftermarkets with altered design.
So basically buy the original part??
@foredimples529 yes this and the purger valve you should always get oem from the dealer after market is risky ask me how i know it took two times and two gas tanks collapsing on me bevause of after market parts .when it comes to electrical some parts are just best bought from the dealer

Great video! Did you have the code cleared out with a scanner after the part was replaced, or did you just keep driving it until the monitor ran another drive cycle and turned off on it's own?

I got the same code yesterday. I got a new gas cap today, how long does it take for the engine light to disappear if it was the cap? Im bringing it tomorrow to the mechanic but i just want to make sure im not jumping into mechanic when the code will eventually disappear if the driving cycle is not yet completed.

I think buying the canister close valve from Rock auto or anything other place than OEM part from Hyundai is a mistake, that's probably why you keep getting it and have to fix it again and again because those after market parts doesn't operate as good as the OEM, However there is a lot of parts you can buy aftermarket and work perfectly fine but when it comes to evap system, I don't think so, that's just what I've learned over the years, cheers

You might be right. I bought one for my 2011 sonata from autozone for about 80 bucks. I replaced it and I still get the check engine light. I have replaced gas cap bought from Hyundai. Now I’m thinking of buying a purge valve from Hyundai

It will go off after driving for probably 50 or so miles or you can clear it like I do with the cheap OBD2 reader I show in the video that I bought off amazon.
@@TheComebackKid it answer my question thanks before u replaced this axis u smell gasoline sometimes when error code lit? Yeah mine the same hoping this will resolved it and won't smoke it to find out in the shop. Expensive charging me $300 to smoke it.

this could be a lose or damaged gas cap as well.
After installing the purge valve and the gas cap I decided to get a smoke test which I should have done to begin with.... In my case it ended up being the fuel filler neck

It show me that code and already change the canister valve 3 times 😢 and now the code sai it's small leak so I don't know what else to do
Hey Comeback, since you replaced the same part many times, don't you suspect that maybe that part wasn't the problem? Did you let the computer erase the code? If not, and you erased the code yourself, you're providing more evidence that you did not verify that the canister was bad.
I have the same code and I erased it without making any repair and it took a couple months for the Check Engine came on again. I've read elsewhere that a leaky canister purge valve could cause the code and that it's located under the hood. Did you ever check that?
You’ve replaced this several times you said. I’m wondering if you’ve tried a different brand if available. I’ve found a little more money goes a long way in the end.

I got this error code and Autozone told me to replace the Evaporation System Control. ESM1001. I just replaced that. How long until the light goes off? Or is is possible it’s something else beyond what their system said to replace?
Hi Faith, you may need to reset the code on your car so its off then it will stay off.
I have a ML350 mercedes, 2004, had the PO456, replaced the part, and the car started perfect, the noises were all gone, everything was working excellent, drove th the gym, 5 miles away, after the gym, it had reverted back to hard start and "air squish" sound-any ideas?
Gas cap (try replacing this first). If not, one of the many plastic pipes in EVAP system has a small hole or crack. Need smoke system, to my understanding, to find the hole. It's a PIA.

My engine light came on, it was detected to be EVAP system leak ( very small) can I still drive my vehicle?
It's not recommended, but a lot of people do....In my case, if the light flashes, it says take it in immediately. If it stays on, they say I can drive 100 miles.
I think you might see a slight drop in gas mileage....im not a mechanic by the way.
