  • This is homemade electric motor that runs on 3 volts @ 150 micro amps. A simple two transistor circuit controls the firing of a very fine wire coil that pushes the magnet rotor around. I am studying more efficient motors like this that could run for years on two AA batteries.
    This is the video that inspired me to start this project: • 20 year Pulse Motor. 2...

    glad to see your still making your video's. 150ua draw is incredible feat. Those small wires really make a huge difference. I got to thinking if you replaced the transistors with mosfets I bet you might save on the current draw. I also thought about if you had used a crystal oscillator chip along with mosfet it might be even more efficient. My two cents. Thanks for all the years of videos, you have really kept me thinking about efficiency.

      A mosfet version would be interesting to try. This quest I have been on for years towards "extreme" efficiency has been fun. Thanks for following along.

    With a solar cell added it should run non-stop - it would charge up in light and run the super cap during the night. Of course start with a charged up super cap. I like your motors and the ideas you use to build them.

    1500 ohms, that's an insane coil...a very cool insane coil lol, nice winding for sure.
    Perhaps a JT front end could bring it down to 0.7V with similar draw.

      If you have never wound a 45ga coil you have not had one of the true adventures in life. Get a good nights sleep and have a quiet room before you try it. This is the same wire that I used on the EZ Spin motor that Lasersaber sent me. I might try this circuit on that setup and see what happens.

      Have wound a few and why i'm thankful those dancing things are only $1. An adventure certainly and the effort is rewarded. Reminds of winding Exciter coils at 4am., 'only 200 turns to go'.
      It's a keeper, hopefully featuring in more vids :)

    If you use driver circuit from, Solar Rocker toy and use Many small Neodymium magnets in the Pulse motor rotor. Then you should be able to bring the power draw down to around 15.2 Micro amps as I had done 👍🙂.

    You can also collect the BEMF pulse into other cap and then make a switch between the the 2 caps. This will recycle the energy even more. Increase run time x10 or more!!!!! Google: back electromotive force (BEMF).
    Use a full wave bridge rectifier after the reed switch

    Hello Lidmotor, I have just finished building my first pulse motor, and although I am happy with it for being my first attempt, I would like to modify the circuit by adding transistors, resistor and caps to prolong run time. I have copied your circuit several times but with no success. Obviously I am doing doing wrong, I was wondering if you could possibly assist ? Many thanks, Eddie.

  • @fltsgn6
    @fltsgn6 5 років тому

    Aside from the resistance differences that you discuss in these two circuits, I also note that the LED is placed in a different place as well. I wonder if that has any effect on the run times you were getting between them. Also, if I cannot get a coil with a high resistance, can I make up the difference with a resister next to the coil?

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  5 років тому

      Just adding a resistor doesn't work. The position of the LED does not change the run time. Good questions. Thanks for posting them.

    This was suggested today in my views and although i have seen it already, i confused 'micro amp' with 'op-amp' pulse motor. A thing i have been wondering about for some time and may have been done before, is an op-amp oscillator/pulse motor possible?

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  2 роки тому +1

      I don't know Ben. My op-amp experience is pretty limited. I guess you could take a low level signal from some kind of rotor position sensor, amplify it, and then use that in the driver circuit. I have tried running a motor on just an oscillator frequency and that didn't work well for me.

    Love this one. However the concept of "Come back in 10 years time to see if it is still running" is probably a step too far for my 30 second attention span. I can just imagine one of those live webcam feeds running continuously. Excellent video as always 😊

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  7 років тому

      Thanks. I think you are right about run time.....it doesn't matter as long as it runs at least 30 seconds. Ha. My friend Lasersaber did setup a live feed camera on one of his EZ Spin motors that ran for a long time. From time to time the motor stopped (for various reasons) or he had to move the camera. It was a great idea but it would have been more fun to watch if he had let a pet mouse or something scurry by it from time to time.

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  7 років тому +2

      I measured the amp draw using two types of meters and saw between 50 and 100 micro amps but used 150 in the video to be on the safe side. It is really just a ball park method but it is all I need.

    Lidmotor - found a source for coils that have 3,900 ohms !!! Next time you are out... find an old throw-away microwave and in the bottom there is a small motor that makes the turn-table spin... Take it out the bottom, disassemble the motor and you have a wonderfully wound coil that is about 1-1.5 inch tall, 1/4 thick with wire so fine you have to use a magnifying glass to see it (well, at least at my age you do). It has 3,900 (+/-) ohms and it is something I am playing with. Maybe you should find one of these and see what happens in your "Wonderful" projects which my Middle School students always try to duplicate.

    Hello
    I’m trying to replicate your motor; I may have a few “very beginner” questions
    I have found the tow transistors but I don’t understand the 1 meg resistance can I ask for a link or more info please :)
    Thanks a lot,
    I really like your creations, I found amazing to run motors on so low voltage

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  6 років тому +1

      You need to find the 1 meg ohm resistor somewhere. Do a Google search for it. Any electronics supply will have one. They are sold in packages with a bunch of them in the package.

    I could have sworn you have at least one motor that can run at under 3 microamps at less than 3v.

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  7 років тому

      I think I have. I will go back through my videos and see. I ran this motor until it stopped (12 hours) and the final voltage on the cap was 1.41 v. The 6F / 2.7v super cap had 2.7v in it when I started the experiment. I think I can tweek this thing and make it better.

    • @Magneticitist
      @Magneticitist 7 років тому

      I say that because a while back I was on a mission to try to match or beat the lowest draw pulse motor I could find out there, and I believe I either came across a comment of yours or saw a video where you basically had a rotor going from 3uA or even less, however I may be confusing that. At any rate I recall you having the record at one point and I'm pretty sure you managed around that range of current.

    Hi I'm trying to replicate this project and I'm wondering how many turns would make 1500 ohms?

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  7 років тому +4

      I don't know. I had a friend years ago who used to make these kind projects. She once made the statement, "Wind your coils with wild abandon." I have always thought that was great advice for a hobby person that is doing this just for fun. On this project just use very fine wire and wind up a coil until you get tired. Have fun.

      @mbnesley 7 років тому +1

      hahaha yea that's good advice, I've wound it about 400 times and it just go for a while than sort of pendalems back and forth for a while, I copied the exact circuit, just I''ll try another 400 probably...Thanks again Lidmotor :)

    • @benwinkel

      Compared to conventional motors, these do not have enough torque. They won't be able to run your vacuum or washing machine. ;)

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  2 роки тому +2

      Motor efficiency is all about getting the biggest bang for the buck from the energy you have available. Different situations require motor designs. Here all I wanted to do was simply move a small disk for a long time on a tiny amount of energy. It sounds really easy but I found it to be very hard. Lots of things got in the way.
